  1. I think they sign u up for the class when you are cleared for all your prerequisites for the semester and you've met with an adviser.
  2. We have a contract with Pearson publishing where all our textbooks are through the school bookstore and rolled into our tuition/fees. It comes with a web contract too so I don't think there's any way to get around that or get it for cheaper.
  3. I like it, I think the curriculum isn't that difficult but the NCLEX style questions on our exams can be tricky to understand. Don't forget though, out of all those applicants, some don't meet the qualifications to be accepted, some change their mind and don't want to go into nursing, some get accepted at other schools and don't accept the admission offer, some have financial/medical problems and defer or decide not to attend, some have A&P 2 in progress and don't meet the minimum pass score, some that are admitted don't get all the paperwork they need to begin classes on time, etc. I don't know what the lowest % rank is but I know people have been wait-listed and still got accepted from spots in the 20's and 30s.
  4. I applied last year I got right into Gateway. That was my first time applying and my only school LOL. My rank was 93% but I was still worried because they can get over 1000 applicants for only 96 spots. Last year was supposedly the most competitive year for the CC programs.
  5. did you attend an info session at your school of choice? They told us that during the info session. It makes sense because you can't have people transferring in 90% of their credits and then they only count 1 or 2 classes towards GPA. Some people apply to the program and have taken all their classes elsewhere and the CC are just a backup plan.
  6. I counted an elective when I calculated my nursing GPA but it was only 3 credits and really didn't make much of a difference. Yes, they will calculate your nursing GPA with transfer credits, the college itself doesn't do this on your transcripts but during the nursing program application they will. I had one C from almost 20 years ago I transferred over and it was included.
  7. Nursing GPA includes every course you have on your transcript, both prerequisite and corequisite courses, even transfer credits, they'll calculate into your nursing GPA. I'm not certain but I think they take the elective with the highest grade.
  8. No, there are a total of 96 spots in the program, and some of the accepted students aren't meeting the pre-program requirements for fall semester during the allotted time period, so those students that don't meet the requirements are having their seats revoked and they will be calling more people off the waitlist. There was a mandatory orientation webex meeting last night and there were suppose to be 96 of us and there definitely weren't 96 students present during roll call... If you are accepted or get called off the waitlist...please complete everything that needs to be completed during the appropriate time window.
  9. Also, for anyone that's on the wait list preparing to be called off and start in the fall, be prepared to spend at least $500 for all the pre-semester testing and uniform/equipment requirements, on top of tuition, fees, and books.
  10. We had our Gateway orientation tonight, she said there were over 400 applicants and they've started calling people off the wait list to fill the 96 spots. A lot of people still didn't complete the background/toxicology paperwork yet so they may be calling off even more people soon.
  11. That is so awesome good for you!
  12. Decisions are posted! I got into Gateway. For reference, my stats were: A&P1: A TEAS: 88 Nursing GPA: 3.6something, depending on what stats course they used and whether they included an elective in the calculation. This will be a 2nd career for me I already have a bachelors and masters so I will probably only need the core nursing courses. After that I want to complete the BSN online at Southern and hopefully I can re-use some of my credits from my former degrees.

  14. Gateway. At orientation last year they said they got close to 1,000 the previous year, but a lot were disqualified for not having all the prerequisites.
  15. Yes I applied too. I made another thread about the applications on this site. We should hear by the 9th, I've heard it's always on a Friday. Not sure how many people applied this year.
  16. Depends, do you feel confident in your experience last semester that you can pull an A during a 2 week intensive session class? Will it be online or in-person?
  17. Bump....just checking in to see how everyone is doing. The application for Gateway opens up on the 1st. I completed all coursework over the Summer and I have to take the TEAS exam. It's all remote proctoring due to COVID, I plan to take my first run in the beginning of Dec and if I'm not happy with the score I'll retake it one more time in the beginning of Jan. I think the national average is about a 65-75, not sure about the CCC average. Now question for anyone that has applied in previous years, we have to submit all transcripts from all previously attended universities...Gateway already has all my transcripts except for one I think, that I requested as a part of my initial admissions. Is that sufficient for the nursing program or do I need to request another transcript directly to the nursing program dept? With that said, has anyone had to transfer a foreign transcript as a part of the application? I have one I need to transfer (anglophone university), and I have a feeling they're going to be difficult when I request a transfer.
  18. Or maybe my orientation leader was wrong! I attended this January.
  19. No. My C is in psych from Uconn almost 20 years ago, as long as Chem, A&P2, and TEAS are strong, that should be OK. I'm sure we all have a few weak spots here and there in our academic careers. At Gateway's orientation, if you take both classes at Gateway, they will only count the higher grade. If you take the old one at one college and then take it again at Gateway, they will take the average of the two grades.
  20. Gateway said there's no real pay difference between the AS and BSN. I know one of the professors and they said they almost all get placed, because we need nurses. And at Gateway's orientation, they said most employers will reimburse you for tuition to slowly get your BSN. Southern requires too many prerequisites I don't have and the BSN degrees really aren't within the range of my budget. We can work with an AS in CT so I don't know what you mean that I would get to work quicker with a BSN. Someone looked into UMASS and UCONN and they said if you can't get into UMASS don't even bother applying to UCONN because they get swamped with so many applicants. I think those programs are more competitive than the CC programs.
  21. Anyone know which of the CC schools are the least competitive? Gateway accepts 96 out of 1000 applicants, which is a 10% acceptance rate.
  22. OK, let's get ready to rumble... I'm applying to Gateway's program this coming fall. A&P 1: A Nursing GPA: will be about a 3.6 when I complete all the requirements. I took all the co-requisites or they transferred from my previous degrees. I have two B+'s and one C and I don't think it's financially wise to re-take them, because Gateway said they will take the average of the two grades and that won't bump me up too much, so it is what it is. TEAS to be taken Oct 2020. Goal score 80 or better, hopefully I will only take it once. They said at orientation they have 96 seats and get close to 1000 applicants ? Nursing will be a 2nd career for me. I know they look at my whole educational background, and I have a 3.388 (cum laude) for my BS and a 3.504 for my MA. No F's but I have two C's and one D+ in there. Hoping they see these grades were earned almost 20 years ago and don't count it against me too much. Study hard and good luck everyone! I don't have a back-up plan right now but I want to start brainstorming something not too expensive or time-consuming if I don't make it.
