Hi Becca!:) I think I can help you with some of your questions. I just received my nursing pin from the NMC and I'm also a US to UK nurse (although I am basically a new grad as I only worked in the US for 4 months before moving) The CBT is very easy. You should be able to pass it with minimal studying. I think the pass rate is like 99% LOL. With that being said, I googled "survey monkey nmc cbt test" and got a bunch of practice tests that were helpful. Study PRN I have also heard is good but I think you have to pay for that one. I have a job offer from the Christie! But I haven't started working there yet. So I don't think I'd be much help there. If you want to connect more via email you can give me your email if you'd like! I am not Alaina but I can answer your question:) Your manager will not need to know anything and will not need to fill our any paperwork. The NMC will need to verify your character with your state's board of nursing. The only way your employer will need to get involved is whenever you find a UK job and accept it, then your most recent employer will need to fill out a reference for you. I also broke contract in order to move to the UK (I'm not there yet...corona sabotaged my plans), and my employer had no issue with it as long as you give 2 weeks notice then they shouldn't give you any attitude..your personal life/reasons to leave the US is none of their business:) I was very careful of who I told in regards to my coworkers as well since you never know who will say something! Thank you Alaina! Yes, I have definitely noticed that I will have to be very meticulous about my studying for the OSCE. No I havent been able to schedule my exam so I will definitely take Northern Ireland into consideration! I was trained in an English-speaking country so I only had to prove that my training was in English. I did this with my university's official transcript!:)

Hi! It seems we are on similar steps. I passed my CBT and waiting to get my visa so I can go to the UK and do my OSCE. I got a police certificate from the FBI and it was easy enough to do online and you can go to your local police station to get fingerprints done or there are some post offices you can go to as well! Just Google FBI Identity History Summary Checks. I did it through the Electronic Departmental Order. I also submitted a US transcript from my college for "English language requirement." Request an official transcript, send it to yourself, and upload to NMC website! Make sure you have seen your health practitioner in the last 6 months. Then you will fill out their contact info, including their email, on your NMC online account. They will email your practitioner and your practitioner will click on a link that takes them to a secure portal basically just to approve that whatever health information you gave them is accurate.

Hi! I am also a fellow US nurse and will be moving to UK as soon as I can get my visa. I am doing the whole process on my own as well, and I am now to the point where all I have left is to get my OSCE done (whenever I can get to the UK and whenever the OSCE centers reopen) I am also doing everything myself. Did you pass your OSCE by yourself on the first attempt? I have been watching Youtube videos and trying to familiarize myself with everything but I feel very overwhelmed..the skills don't seem hard but it seems to be a very specific/detail-oriented test and this is what worries me. Do you have any recommendations or tips? I have access to the Royal Marsden textbook! Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the info! I have seen mixed messages on getting a state vs FBI one...someone has told me state was enough but maybe I'll just get an FBI one to be safe!

I went through the NHS website. Many people have had great experiences going through an agency but I wanted to try doing it on my own since I won't need help with my visa since I'll be getting a visa through my husband and his job will pay for it. I also felt like I had done enough research and had found a great facebook group that gives good advice about this process. If I started to have more trouble finding a job then I would definitely have considered an agency though!

Quick question for anyone who has gone through the process of registering with the NMC... I have to provide a police clearance certificate. I've lived in one state for my whole adult life, is it okay to get a state background check with fingerprints or do I have to do an FBI one? Thanks in advance!

I received an email from the NMC about 2 or 3 weeks ago saying that I am eligible to register and that I should get an email from Pearson Vue to arrange my test. But I have not received any further instruction from Pearson Vue:( I tried to go on Pearson Vue's website to try to schedule online and it says I need a NMC Candidate ID but I have looked everywhere and don't have one. Is the candidate ID something that Pearson Vue will email me? Is this just taking long because of the coronavirus or should I have gotten further info from them already? I have tried calling pearson vue but no luck. If anyone has gone through this before, any info? Thanks in advance!

Well it seems like the NMC registration process has been moved totally online so I'm glad that has changed because I have heard that it used to be so much more tedious. I am actually waiting on Pearson Vue to email me an authorization to take the CBT exam, and my visa process is also on hold due to all the centers being closed...so I'm starting to just get used to the idea that there just isn't much that I can do at the moment until life goes back to normal. Manchester's trust does do international recruitment, I found their Twitter page but can't find like a specific email that I can send a question to, so I will just have to keep looking and wait until I can get back to the UK and go to the open days. Also, I would like to be able to not use an agency if possible, I'm planning on just trying to do it on my own, and if it starts not going well, then maybe I'll consider finding an agency. Thanks for your response. Yes it has been somewhat discouraging because I just want to continue my nursing career:( I have gone to an open day and was planning on going to more but then global pandemic happened and they got postponed... When I went to one open day, they instructed me to put "Yes" on the question about being registered with the NMC and then writing down my expected date of being registered in the "supporting information" section of the NHS application so I did that but it has been a week since the closing date and still no word about an interview. I feel weird selecting "Yes" to that question on the application from other trusts that haven't specifically told me to do that, but now I'm wondering if that's what I should do in order for my application not to be put aside.

I am eligible of registering with the NMC, I am already in the process of doing so. I believe they used to require 12 months experience in your home country but they have taken that requirement away a while ago.

Hello everyone. I know that there is a limited amount that I can do considering the global pandemic, but I am just trying to get whatever I can get done with my process of finding a job and registering with the NMC. My background: I am a qualified RN in the US, I graduated in 2019 and spent 4 months as a new grad in a general ICU. I was doing great! But, I am not working right now because I was in Manchester for the last few months getting married etc, then global pandemic happened and now our plans were interrupted as I was originally only going to be in the US for a few weeks or a month while I applied for a visa via my husband. Anyway, now I am applying for jobs in Manchester, it'd be nice to secure a job so that when I do arrive in the UK (hopefully in the Summer sometime??) it's just one less thing to do. I have been applying to several trusts, but I was just wondering: How long it usually takes trusts to get back to you whether you get an interview or not? Will they usually let you know if you will not get an interview? With my limited experience, do I have a shot at even getting a job?? I'd love to be in an ICU again as critical care is really my passion, but do trusts hire new-ish grads in the ICU in the UK? On the online NHS applications, it asks if you are registered with NMC, if I am putting "no" is that automatically putting me at a disadvantage? Hello everyone! I’m a US nurse in the process of registering with the NMC. I’m seeking any advice as to how to make the process as smooth as possible. I have the visa thing covered as I will be joining my husband as his dependent on his work visa. But I am now at the stage where they have told me I will take the CBT and OSCE as well as upload several supporting documents about my health and character etc. Does anyone have any advice on how to study for the CBT and OSCE? Did anyone have a job before being fully registered? How did you prove the English language requirement? I’ve got so many questions LOL but any insight of any part of the process would be appreciated.
