  1. Hi, I live north of Seattle, so am not fully familiar with the other hospitals south of it. I have not heard anything bad, and most seem to have a good reputation. However, I have not personally worked at any hospitals in Seattle or Tacoma. The cost of living in Seattle is quite high. When I lived there about 5 years ago, renting a 1 bedroom apartment would cost around $1500/mo. There were cheaper options, but they often required roommates. Rent tended to be somewhat cheaper south of Seattle, but not much. I would recommend looking up rental listings for current costs. As for pay, most Washington State hospitals are under the Washington State Nurses Association, and their contracts (including pay rates) are available on WSNA.org. Hope that helps!
  2. It completely depends on where you want to live and work in Seattle. Hospitals (UW, Harborview, Virginia Mason, Seattle Childrens etc) within Seattle are unlikely to hire an ADN as they tend to pick from those attending BSN programs at the universities there. However, you may have luck in hospitals in the smaller surrounding cities. I know Providence in Everett has a residency program that accepts ADNs as long as you agree to have a BSN within 5 years. There may be others further south that I'm less familiar with. Check hospital job boards and see what their requirements are. They often say if a BSN is required or strongly preferred. Also, if clinics are an interest, a member of my ADN class got a clinic job in Seattle. Hope that helps!
  3. Hi Fellow Nurses! I recently found out that my husband has been offered a position in Honolulu and we may be moving there in 2020. I am a new med/surg nurse with an ADN, working to complete my BSN, and will have 1 year experience by the time we move. I'm wondering if anyone can give me some insight on what it's like to be a nurse in Hawaii. Is it difficult for ADN nurses to find jobs in hospitals in Honolulu? What are the staffing ratios usually like? What hospitals have the best opportunities for growth? (I'm hoping with more experience to branch into ED and/or pediatrics) Thanks so much!
