  1. You'll need the Visa approved by a lawyer first. And they'll give a list of documents to take to the border, which include what you listed, as well as: original school diploma, nursing license, etc. Canadians can stay in the USA for up to 6 months at a time. So a month of job hunting is no big deal (but don't tell the officer this).
  2. I do think you need a job before starting this process. A lot of the steps in the process will ask for an offer letter, such as at the border when getting a Visa stamp
  3. In addition to my above comment, once you get passed the border, ask the agent where the closest "SSN" building is. You will go there to apply for an SSN. They didn't really bother me with questions and it was a very smooth process. Make sure you provide a US address for them to mail your SSN to
  4. @Romina Bakhtiari I agree with @westcoastlife. I would not suggest booking a flight. If you can, drive to the border. Some officers will be dicks but you should be able to get a stamp at the border. Depending on your deficiencies, you may be asked by the board to do additional schooling. I had to do 1 years worth of classes, then about 6 months wait until my license got approved - good luck.
  5. Just to verify, the original premise is WRONG. Please stop spreading false information. If you have a job offer, you CAN get a TN Visa without a California license. For ex. I'm a nurse in Ontario with my Ontario Nursing License. I was able to receive my TN Visa. From there, I just took a day trip to cross the border and apply for my SSN. Now I'm at a stage where I am applying for "Endorsement of License" to receive my Nursing License in California. Hopefully this helps future nurses.
  6. Canada. The NCLEX for Canada is the same as the NCLEX for California according to the state website.
  7. Yes so I have passed the NCLEX! That would mean I should be eligible for a TN Visa.
  8. So I just have to apply to receive a license from another state? Not necessarily work there? Would you have any resources that explain how to do this?
  9. Can you provide more information? Are you saying that she was able to get her SSN before her license?

  11. I am having this exact issue and I was wondering if OP was able to come up with a less convoluted solution? Hopefully they (or others) can share what steps were taken to receive Work Authorization, SSN, and Cali License. I just received my CGFNS Visa Screen Certificate and TN Letter. Will I be able to receive a TN Visa with those two (in conjunction with my Canadian License)?
  12. I am Canadian RN who recently got a job offer in San Francisco. I'm trying to figure out the process and honestly, I just don't understand it. My background: - Bachelor of Nursing (2017) - Passed NCLEX (2017) - 1 Year in a Canadian hospital - Received my CGFNS Certificate From my understanding, I have to do two steps: Immigration and License Transfer however.. 1. I cannot receive my Cali Nursing license without an SSN 2. I cannot receive an SSN without work authorization (does my offer letter count as work authorization? Can I apply for a TN Visa and does it equate to work authorization?) 3. I cannot receive work authorization without being licensed. Is the only real solution to work in another state and transfer? That honestly doesn't make sense. Is there support I can call to help with this issue? Would anyone have any resources?
