Coumadin???
Thank You all very much!!!! As a matter of fact I was right in trusting my intuition and will do so from now on. The doc came back when the next INR was 5.7 and held coumadin for 5 days . He then put her on 6mg and the next INR was 1.17 now he is taking her up slowly. But I will definitely ? him next time as I have taken many orders in which the MDs order things that haven't worked before so I am sure they have forgotten if they even really remember the pt you are talking about. I have no problem doing what is best for the pt in the longrun. Thanks again

Coumadin???
Hello everyone. This is a situation that passed but still I am curious about. I am new grad so please excuse me if this sounds simple. I had a pt that was on 9mg coumadin and her INR was 4.2, The doctor than increased her to 11mg coumadin. This was not seeming right as I was taught that the more coumadin the higher the INR which the norm for is 2-3. I asked numorous people at the fac and I don't know if they didn't understand my question or what but they said the higher the dosage the lower the INR. Can someone please tell me which is true. I am almost sure that the higher the dosage the higher the INR. Anyway another INR was done 2 days later that was 5.4 and imagine thgey held the coumadin for 5 days. Please let me know what you think as my gut told me I was right and I like having that instinct(especially when its right)

Omg!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi everyone and Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!! That situation did pan out as you said it would. When I went in the DON said she had to talk to everyone because she could not say for sure who it was but I am going to look elsewhere as there have been other things happen already. I work 3-11 and didn't leave tonight till 0100 just charting on things that had happened.Lots of family showing me things and of course calling docs and documenting everything. I didn't finish my 2100 med pass till right at 2300 because of things that kept coming up. I am almost afraid to go to sleep afraid they will call me with something else tomorrow. I have always wanted to be a nurse and am using this as agrowing experience I just don't want to grow old to quick. Thanks you guys for being there I really don't have any type of a support system here that can understand. Thanks again:redbeathe :heartbeat :smiley_aa

Omg!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No they said the meds were in the cart. The pts alot of them have crushed meds so you can watch them take them. The ones that take them whole I do stand there and watch them take them. I figured the time you have for each resident on med pass is 6 min so you will have time.

Omg!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi everyone. I have posted a couple of times but here is a new one. I got my first job as anew grad LPN a couple of weeks ago. I was given about 4 days orientation and then put on my own. They scheduled me 8 days straight and I was on 1 hall every night except last night. Now my DON calls me at home and says they found some meds in cups in the drwers with names on them and I didn't do it. This was the first night that this one nurse that has been there forever followed me and all of a sudden there are all these questions and they are going to do a formal investigation. There has been no problems or concerns until last night. She has a few years there and I am the newbie. I am so scared that they will try to scar my license and ruin my name. I do not know how to handle this. I want to just quit because if they aren't willing to listen than I feel i will always be a target and my license will alwaays be in jeopardy because of what someone says. The position I took as well has a great deal of turnover which I was told after i started(I wonder why). Any words of wisdom please I am kinda freakin out. i worked to hard to let something like this happen. PLEASE HELP

They are starting me for a couple of day shifts and then I will be working 3-11. That is this week and then next week I am orienting with hospice for a per diem position as the first job is only 32 hrs a week. Anyone have any pointers as I jump out into this new job. Any advice is helpful. ty

New Grad LTC starting pay
The only real advice I have is to always have your eyes and ears open. You can learn alot by just paying attention to whats going on. I have been working in the hospital while in schooL and it was very helpful. You can learn alot by just watching and asking questions. I am sure the LPNs there would be more than willing to explain some of the things they are doing . Always remember the only dumb question is the wone you don't ask. We are all life learners and no one person knows all except of course GOD. Good Luck!!!!!!!!!

New Grad LTC starting pay
Hi there! i am in Orlando and am a new grad I just took my boards on the 13 and passed. I went to one place and before i filled out the app I was hired they started me at 16.50 with a 1$ shift differential on3-11 and 2$ on weekends. I will have 20 pts. From what I have heard that is not bad. I have been a CNA for 5-6 years with 3 of those being at a major hospital they are only paying 12.83. There are many opportunities and after you take your boards you will have a whole new outlook. No matter what they say the hospitals may not want us(LPN/LVN)but there are many others that will appreciate us. Good luck and you too will reap the rewards of being a NURSE!!!!

Yeahhh I Made It!!!!!!!!!
:balloons: :balloons: Hello all! I have posted a couple other threads as I was on the journey to licensure this year and have gone through it all and made it. I took my boards on the 13th and passed. I was alittle apprehensive to get out on the job hunt but very wonderfully surprised. I am in Fla and was hired at the first place I went for a base pay of 16.50(1$ differential for 3-11 and 2$ differential for weekends) I think this is pretty good after reading other posts on wages around the country. not only was I hired before filling out the app when i got home hospice called me from a resume I posted on line last night. What an experience. I was wondering though if anyone who has worked LTC has any pointers on how to enter the position and make the transition that I am from patient care tech to nurse. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Neagtive...responses to my wanting to enter Lpn program..
Hi!!!! let me tell you something! I am 37 and just finished my LPN and have worked at a huge hospital for 3 years. The new nurses coming out today are exactly that, new to nursing and new to life. there have been many times as a tech that I have seen things that were pertinent to quality patient care and brought it to the attention of the nurse(20-24) that impacted the patients well being dramatically and not even as much as a thank you. We(older new nurses) are not bringing just a couple years of college with us we are bringing life skills and lessons to a profession that depends on these things. There are alot of things that we as seasoned adults have either experienced or known somebody that has. These things can prove most adventagious in caring for others. We have developed a sense of compassion, empathy, understanding and the art of hopefully being non-judgemental. The reason I say this is alot of new grads for instance see old people as a burden, without living long enough to appreciate the knowledge they have to offer or respect them for the fact that they have made it this far. Sometimes our life doesn't always play the way we dreamed but no matter what I think all people deserve to be treated with respect. This is the main thing we can offer as older nurses, a standard on which the new nurses can build and help develop them into the life learners that we have been. You are to very proud of yourself and your accomplishments and know that we are all meant to be at a certain place at a certain time for some reason and you are exactly where you need to be. Whatever you do after this will come as it comes and the time will be right. JUST HAVE FAITH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Possibly Working As A Cna Temporarily
Hi !!! I was on the Emory hospital website and looking at their job openings and a tech2 pay was 13.48 that was for what they called mid the min was 11.52 or so. I am in Orlando and after 3 years at a huge hospital only making 9.91 and supporting 3 kids with a 700 rent. I think you could make it as long as you pinch pennies while you wait on ur ga license.

Bad Insurance For Healthcare Workers!!!!!!!
I was just wondering if anybody else has issues with their health insurance. You would think that working in a hospital would give you great insurance. Instead they have copays on top of copays and as a PCT you can't afford them,so what good is insurance. I have had a chest cold for 2 weeks and OTC's have not helped so I go to the doc($20)and she gives me a script for robutussin 10-100(copay$10).The stuff I have at home is the same strength for $3(minus the codeine, which I don't need). Then she says well maybe we should get an Xray($35)and then come back and we will discuss the Xray($20). For the measely 9.91 I make after being there 3 years how am I supposed to just say here you go $85. I am sorry to spout off just frustrated and was wondering if all coverage is this ridiculous these days. :angryfire

:balloons:Hi everyone! I am new to this forum and hope everyone is doing great. I am a new grad in Fl and waiting to take my NCLEX. Due to circumstances beyond my control my application has to be reviewed which will be on June 9 then i will find out when I can sit. I want to move to Ga at the end of the year after I do my 500 hrs here in FL and get endorced in Ga. I was just wondering if anyone could give me an actual wage for nursing homes and home care and enlighten me to the actual duties and LPN does in the hospitals there as well as the wage. Any information would be greatly appreciated as I am planning this move with me and my 3 kids and really want to make sure that it would be the best thing to do for us right now. Thank you again.:monkeydance:
