I don't think it should be on them if the school is in a bind. That's a lot of pressure for someone that also has a life. If things happen, they shouldn't feel guilty for prioritizing themselves first. I also say this as some who will be leaving my school before the school year is over. I plan to make the transition for whoever replaces me as easy as possible but it's not my burden to bear that they may not have a permanent nurse once I leave. I think the city should be better prepared and offer school nurses more money so that the position is attractive to applicants. I've been a school nurse now for a little over 4 years in an elementary school. It's not clique-y like other jobs with other nurses but it's like working alongside people who think this is high school and a popularity contest. If you're new to schools you'll soon find out that this is how adults who work in schools behave. It's a sad reality. The most difficult thing for me was realizing that THIS was true autonomy. I could call my supervisor, sure. But nursing judgement takes precedent and you have to make the right call. It's possible that you will make mistakes along the way but it's better to realize that mistakes sooner rather than later before it becomes a sentinel incident. I was very into my policy and procedure manual so I would call 911 if there was every anything that I felt I couldn't handle and was very emergent. Better safe than sorry and covering your @ss comes into play a lot. You're essentially on your own, in charge of those below you in your medical office and THE medical representative in that school. Best of luck with whatever you decide to do.

It does move a lot quicker. My contract ended in January. 3rd year started in February.

It may take a while to set these documents but it's on your portal homepage to the right. It'll say my service information, then click "view my service information and documents". But again, it may not be available yet. But you can write to them to withdraw more taxes.

No they don't. They deposit the funds in your account and you're responsible for paying your servicer(s).

I fixed the link ? And you should be given an option to fill out your tax forms either before or while you're receiving the funds. I had to reach out to change my withholdings and they provided the form then.

For example, my award was 1789. After their taxes came out it was 1580. I changed it, had them take out an additional 300 so that it's not 1280. I did end up owing but because of the deduction from paying student loans, it kinda evened out and I owed for state taxes (they don't take out for state taxes)

It was definitely taxed. And they weren't taking enough taxes out so I had them take out an additional $300 for federal. I'd love for that bill someone mentioned a while back to be passed so that Nurse Corps funds aren't taxed. I started a support group on facebook that I hope some of you will join. I went to the webinar. The payments are slowly coming. Should be in before October 31. My "September" payment came this past Friday ?

Oh wow, that's interesting. I applied for nurse corps but I haven't received any payment yet. I've become a participant now so hopefully a payment comes.

I applied to the nurse corps loan repayment one. I don't think I even knew about the nhsc one. That sounds pretty good too. Is that just for advanced practice nurses?

So what exactly happens now? This is my first time applying and getting it. I'm excited but nervous at the same time. What can I expect? I'm just eager to pay Sallie Mae back ASAP and have a bit of my paycheck and my life back

Good luck to all of you. Make sure you have a paper trail when getting information. Mercy College is messy. It sucks that you already experience some of the disorganization.
