  1. Exactly!! Check out CUNY SPS for their masters. Affordable and Reputable.
  2. This why I didn't go to WGU. A preceptor should be provided for you through your nursing department at the school. CUNY SPS never put us through this.
  3. Things are different than in 2010.
  4. Thank you! I hope anyone reading my responses stays far away from schools like Capella and WGU. If you are a New York resident, you have much better options than those for profit schools. https://open.suny.edu/degrees/nursing?fields=health-sciences
  5. first of all, you took it personally because you probably are one of those who went to one of those scam schools with an MSN program. If not, why are you taking it personally? Critical or not, Do some research and you will see all the lawsuits pending for the MSN program. Just because they are “accredited” does not make it a quality institution. Many for-profit schools are now accredited but they do not provide students with the much needed support at reasonable prices and they have poor reputations in the workforce. This is why I always vouch for CUNY SPS or SUNY online programs. They are affordable, accredited, reputable and of quality. Yes, due to those factors CUNY/SUNY is a much better option. fyi: her/his school should've arranged that on her/his behalf.
  6. To many RNs are attending for profit institutions and paying a lot of money for a little return. Look at reputable schools like the following: https://sps.cuny.edu/academics/graduate/master-science-nursing-informatics https://nursing.nyu.edu/academic-programs/masters-ms/informatics https://www.nursing.pitt.edu/degree-programs/master-science-nursing-MSN/nursing-informatics-online https://nursing.vanderbilt.edu/MSN/ni/index.php https://www.sc.edu/study/colleges_schools/nursing/academic_programs/masters_programs/nursing_informatics.php https://nursing.rutgers.edu/academics-admissions/graduate/masters/nursinginformatics/ https://www.nursing.umaryland.edu/academics/grad/nursing-informatics/careers/ I will be graduating from my BSN Nursing Program as of May 22nd after completing a 1-year program. That is going to be my second degree. The first one in Computer Science and the second one in BSN. I am looking at CUNY's online Nursing Informatics program once I get my nursing license and current registration. The program is reputable through an actual university, and more importantly, a public university which means low tuition and a better standard of education compared to for-profit institutions. Also, The scholarships! The Online MS in Nursing Program Scholarship The Online MS in Nursing Program Scholarship provides financial, academic, and career support to workers in the healthcare system pursuing an advanced nursing degree at the CUNY School of Professional Studies. Recipients of the scholarship will receive funding towards tuition in the semester for which they apply. Award amounts may vary based on financial need but are expected to be $1,320 for the semester.
  7. I am currently working at ivy league hospital and I was a developer for the last 10 years. Now, I am a Dev there. Go to the NI program at Chamberlin, it's your life. I know better from talking to many of the Nurses in the NI field that I work with and are mentors in my life. Good luck!
  8. OK, Well that was not made known in this post. I am not going to back to old posts to fetch that information. Thank you tho.
  9. Looking into Chamberlain to do my Masters in Nursing informatics.. Is this an online program? I have a bachelor's in computer science... Would this be credited? Thanks! She/He said they have a Bachelor's in CS. Look above ^^^^.
  10. I have a BS in Computer Science and I am currently completing my BSN Nursing degree in 1 year! You can't do NI without a BSN first. Any reputable program will require this. After my BSN, I will be getting my masters in Information Systems with a focus in Data Analytics. This is what NI requires as well as for the Future. Many of you RNs without technical skills and understanding are not suited for what's to come for NI. A Nursing Informatics Program is rudimentary and does not well prepare for the present and future. Use your CS degree for its value. Get into a one year BSN program. Many state schools and hospitals offer this. Stay away from for-profit programs that are solely online. Unless they are attached to a public university.
  11. There are more reputable ONLINE programs than Chamberlin.
  12. I agree. Future RNs are better off with a CS or MIS masters.
  13. Great! I got my BS in Computer Science and I am finishing an accelerated BSN program in 15 months. I would network and reach out to people in the field you want to work in. That has been useful for me. Find a mentor.
  14. What state or town do you live in? I am currently in an accelerated BSN degree program at CUNY. (15 months) I have a degree already in Computer Science. After my BSN program, I am looking into an online masters program at CUNY SPS in Nursing Informatics. Affordable and highly regarded. https://sps.cuny.edu/academics/graduate/master-science-nursing-informatics
  15. Research anywhere on here or do a Google search and there are others who have spoken negatively about them. Why would you want to go to a school that doesn't post their fees and tuition? That comes off as a scam. They have no real connections, they offer no scholarships and force people to take out loans to their crappy program. The Smart RNs know that State/Public Universities are the best investment long term. No to Little DEBT AND ARE HIGHLY FAVORABLE IN TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT. I asked HR at the Hospital where am I if they considered for-profit school like Chamberlin valuable. I got a quick no. Same answer from the nurses here too. Best of luck to you to whatever you decide.
  16. STAY AWAY FROM CHAMBERLIN. Have you read the review on here and other sites? They are a diploma mill and they hold very poor value in the workforce. Go to a public college or something more reputable.
  17. Hi all, Update. I got accepted into the 15 month BSN program at CUNY Lehman College. I spoke a leader within the program and she understood what I wanted to achieve as a future RN. Computer Science and Nursing is the future! Also, a Masters in Information System is more attractive than a masters in Nursing Informatics. This what many employees already in the field are schooling me on. So, my next step may be masters in Information Systems. I don't want to work in IT ONLY. I already do within a hosp. I want to be nurse that uses technology to improve the healthcare system for patients and my future colleagues. I want to add that I have CS degree and I took A&P and all the pre-reqs for nursing school already through the summer and winter. I scored mostly A and Bs.
  18. Are you working Informatics? How much experience do you think a nurse needs before she can become an Informatics specialist? Don't knock people for going a different route.
  19. From a debt perspective, I am not worried since my job pays for it. Most RN informaticist have a Masters in Informatics or a Tech related degree. But, it is not required right now in the industry. I could of done a regular RN route in 4 years and then a CompSci Masters in 2-3 years. That would of been 6-7 years total. However, I got a BS in CompSci in 3 years and now will be getting a Nursing degree in 1 year.
  20. I work there already. I want to go into Informatics. NYU is really the school that encompasses the reason why I want to pursue Informatics in a Nursing capacity. I want to build products that improve patient care and manage them. I would recommend any school that has a good dept. The school sent you is really good in those fields. CS is very theory based. MIS is applicable.
  21. Thank you for your input. I will look into this more when deciding on an accelerated BSN program. I would like to add that I already work in a hospital and I work with Nurses all day long. I have 3 years of exposure to the clinical side of things when I was an LPN from the age of 21-24. Also, many years of Patient Care is not usually needed for most RN in Informatics position. The focus on Informatics is on the management of Nursing Technology, not people.
  22. Hi, I am graduating with a B.S. degree in Computer Science and a minor in Information Management and I am planning to get a general BSN. There are several schools in my area that offer the accelerated BSN in one year like CUNY schools, SUNY schools, and NYU. I want to contribute to the area of Nursing Informatics as my career. Does anyone have any insight/advice on one year BSN programs?
  23. I am graduating in May with a degree in Computer Science and a minor in Information management from CUNY. I am applying for accelerated BS Nursing programs at CUNY and one at NYU. I like the NYU program because they have the one year in Nursing Informatics for the Masters and you get well connected to their network and resources. Also, their program focuses on building technologies and entrepreneurship vs. Just nursing with EHR management. https://nursing.nyu.edu/academic-programs/masters-ms/informatics My main two questions are: Anyone ever done a one year nursing program after having a bachelor's already? Any input about NYU's master's in Nursing informatics? Thanks in advance!
