Wow! You are really qualified and I can understand why you were crushed when you did not get in. I applied to OHSU's ABSN program, BSN program, and the Linfield ABSN program. I have not fully calculated my GPAs, but they are probably around 3.4 undergrad (BS in Human Physiology) and 3.8 prereqs. I have 2 years of experience scribing for primary care, plus some volunteer scribing at a free clinic, plus 5 years of volunteer first aid work through the red cross. I got an interview to OHSU's ABSN program and was put on their waitlist, I found out last week that I got in! I know quite a few people who got into OHSU in the past and got rejected from Linfield. I think that OHSU's admissions process is way different than Linfield's because in a lot of ways Linfield focuses way more on the on paper qualifications. I did not even apply last year because I struggled some with two of my anatomy classes and ended up retaking them at a community college. OHSU allows applicants to calculate their prereq GPAs using their retakes (to an extent), while Linfield only allowed for one retake out of the whole sequence. I think it is two this year. Also, Linfield doesn't even have an interview process and I don't remember there being essay questions. I think that you have a really good chance of being accepted into Linfield based on all of your accomplishments!

The best of luck to you! I think Linfield and OHSU are pretty different when it comes to admissions. With your overall GPA, I think you have a good chance with Linfield! With OHSU's ABSN program, did they put you on a waitlist or did they just reject you? I kind of thought that all of the applicants who interviewed were just placed on the waitlist, but in a certain order.

Thank you! Yeah, I was not planning on working as an MA while going to school since I will be doing the ABSN program. They have warned that it would be difficult to work. Also, I will have to be commuting quite a bit already so I am not sure where I would fit in work outside of school.

I have a degree in human physiology and years of experience in the medical field in the form of scribing and volunteer work. I chose to start a one year medical assistant program while I was applying to nursing school so I would not have a gap in my resume and I would also have backup if I did not get into nursing school. Fortunately, I got into OHSU and will be starting in Jan! I am a little conflicted right now because I am halfway through my medical assistant program and on the one hand I know that it would be helpful with my nursing degree. However, I am paying out of pocket for this program and it is going to cost me about another 4k to complete the program. I don't know if the experience that I am going to get from completing the MA program is really worth the money that I will have to spend. Any advice would be helpful!

Yeah, I believe that I did not get a rejection email until after the final decisions had been made for admissions. So, March last year? It was really frustrating because I kept hoping that maybe there were cycles of interviews, but no.

I wonder if they are involved with coordinating covid vaccines in the area down there? I assumed that is why Portland is not having virtual interviews. With all of the vaccine clinics, my thoughts were that they didn't have time for the interviews so the papers made more sense? I don't know though. I wonder if Ashland's committee was more overwhelmed with the covid response and I would not be surprised if OHSU was pushing for more nurses to be accepted into each cohort since nurse burnout in the last year has been such a big issue. Just my speculatuons!

2-3 weeks, I believe. It took me so many days to write those essays. I think I wrote and then re-wrote each one at least three times each. I wonder how many people actually got help from others. It is not like there is anything really stopping them. That is kind of why I liked the interviews better. With the interviews, you know that everyone is genuinely answering the questions. Oh well.

I am having some issues with NursingCAS. I have sent in my application for a nursing program and I have been trying to email the official transcripts to NursingCAS. Every time I try to submit a transcript, it asks for a transcript ID number. For the life of me! I cannot find this number. Does anyone have experience with this? I am getting worried because my deadline is coming up!

What kinds of work experience do you guys have that you are including in your applications? I am just curious. Currently, I am working as a medical scribe in a family practice clinic.

I don't know about you guys, but I am getting a little frustrated with the lack of communication and conflicting information. It would be nice to know what is actually going on with the interviews.

I am wondering if the snow storm has delayed them a bit. I would imagine that they don't have a clear idea of when the next interviews can be held and they probably had to reschedule quite a few interviews this week.

I would say that you should attempt a couple practice exams online, it may cost a little bit of money, but should be worth it. That should tell you where you need to be studying or if you need to study at all. I have never taken the GRE, but I have been told that studying the question structures and how to solve a question on the GRE is as important, if not more important than memorization of the vocab and math equations. So it may be more be more beneficial to focus of question structure than the actual material. To summarize, I think you should take some practice quizzes to see where you are at and then create your study plan from there. It could be that you don't need to study much because you ace your practice tests. Good Luck!

I haven't heard back, but I called last week and they said that they will be sending out emails in the first two weeks of February. It seems like people from midwifery are hearing back though. I am getting so anxious, though! I just really want to know either way.

I think that you have some really good ideas and sentences in your personal statement, but I think it could also use some work. Your second sentence is borderline a run-on sentence due to your excessive use of "and." I think that you could also elaborate on how you hugging and interacting with people at church is related to your passion to care for others. I understand the idea, but I think that it is a little disconnected in conjunction with the third sentence. It is also a good idea to refrain from beginning a sentence with "but." You may want to begin it with "however" instead. In this sentence, "...about the opportunity to earn by CNA license..." you used "by" instead of "my." Overall, I think you did a good job, but you may want to make a few adjustments to make this essay really good. Just mind your syntax, grammar, choice of vocabulary, and minimize the length of some of your sentences. Good luck!

Has anyone noticed that their application status has changed? Mine still just shows that all my transcripts and letters of rec have been received. Is the status supposed to change at some point?

Ethan, I applied for the FNP and I still haven't heard back. It looks like they have only reached out to those who applied for midwifery so far. I am hoping that I hear back this week!
