UBC BSN September 2019 Applicants
All UBC BSN students take the same courses, you can't choose specific courses or times. So yeah, you just have to register yourself in the standard schedule. The times listed for the STT are also not 100% accurate apparently. We will have more information on our actual schedule closer to the beginning of the semester.

Usually at UBC, they collect term 2 payments closer to term 2. It should be the same for this program?

It's very easy! Log-in to SSC, hover over "Registration", click "Standard Timetables", click the "Program" tab and register yourself in the BSN program. On the page where it lists the different standard timetable programs, select BSN, and register yourself into the Year 3 standard timetable. To make sure you have correctly registered, hover over the "registration" tab and click timetable.

Thank you!!!!!! Thanks for all your support along the way ? I think so!! I have heard some pretty convincing arguements on why I should go to BCIT instead, but I still have such a strong desire for UBC‘s program!

Since I just got the news yesterday, I’m still waiting for my SSC to update so I can accept! So I probably won’t get the registration email for some time (not that it matters bc we are all registering for the same timetable?). But I’m just curious, when are your registration dates??

Okay, good to know! I'm happy to hear something good about UBC grads finally haha! I'm sure that there are good ones out there, but it's just the stories about unprepared students that unfortunately seem to get spread around the most Thank you for your input, again. I appreciate it!!

Thanks for the input! Yes, I should be hearing back in the next two weeks or so (I hope)! Wow, our situations are pretty similar!! My commute times to UBC and BCIT are exactly the same as yours, and I also have two close sources that are registered nurses, which I think is a huge advantage in helping us transition from school to work. The main appeal is absolutely that it is 20 months v.s. 3 years. I have heard from quite a few sources, however, that UBC students are not prepared for clinicals at all, and that they haven't really been taught how to properly think critically as a nurse, which is the most important thing that we will learn from nursing school. This is where BCIT's program seems to be more appealing, as their program is very thorough. Have your mom and brother had any experiences with interacting with UBC grads in the workplace?

I am still waiting to hear back about the waitlist. However, I'm just wondering if there is anyone out there who is trying to decide between BCIT and UBC! Let me know ?

BCIT September 2019 Intake Discussion
Hey guys! There may be some who have been accepted that are waiting to get in off the waitlist for UBC. Waitlisted applicants for UBC are supposed to hear back mid-June, so there may be more who turn down BCIT offers around that time, opening more spots off the waitlist.

Hello! I know it hasn't been too long since the news was given, but I was wondering if you heard anything back yet regarding your status?

UBC BSN September 2019 Applicants
Hello! Good luck with your application! After deciding that I wanted to pursue my BSN at UBC, I made an active effort to pursue as many growth experiences as possible prior to application time. For example, I seeked volunteer positions that allowed me to have close contact with patients, and employment that challenged me interpersonally (in a medical environment). Further, I kept notes on events that occurred in my daily life that reinforced my decision for choosing nursing as a career. Doing these things will help you when the time comes for you to write your supplemental, and with the CASPer. Be open to as many new experiences as possible, and push yourself to grow! It will help you with your application, prepare you for your upcoming career as a nurse, and make you a better person ?

Hello! In my opinion, I would also consider ease of transition from school to work. For me, I think it would be easier to adapt as a new grad if my clinical preceptorships were in the same authority as where I planned on working post-gradation. I think that becoming established as a registered nurse is going to be hard enough, and I wouldn't want any other added stressors early in my career that may be involved with switching between provinces. If you are planning on working and staying in Vancouver for the next few years, then perhaps attending UBC would be a good choice. However, if you are planning on staying in Toronto for the next few years, then perhaps UofT would be better. I have also heard that students can often get hired out of their final preceptorships, so this might be something to consider as well.

I'm not sure what it's like transferring licenses between provinces, but I agree that considering long-term plans is important! I think it is really important to consider where you want to stay and establish your career. During our time in our nursing programs, we are going to be making a lot of key connections with people in the industry which will be vital to establishing our careers early on. Two of my really good friends who are nurses have told me multiple times that it doesn't really matter where you go to school, but rather it's the experiences that you get from the school that are the most valuable. Therefore, connections that you make from school may be more valuable to you if they are in the same province as where you plan to stay for a longer time! Also, it may be easier to adjust as a newly graduated nurse if your education took place in the same province.

Hello! I am currently #7 on the waitlist. Although I didn't get an initial acceptance, i'll still provide my profile, as it might be of some help to those for future applications! Grades, ranked #1: 3.95/4.33 Supplemental, ranked #1: Here is what I applied with: 5 years of paid healthcare experience, volunteer experience with seniors and children, experience living abroad in two countries, teaching experience, experience working in a regulated profession according to a code of ethics, a diploma, and two years of university credits from SFU and UBC. Instead of simply listing my experience, I provided specific details regarding my responsibilities, and stated what I had learned from these experiences. In my personal statement, I described what led me to pursue nursing, why it was important to me, how specific past experiences had led me to my decision, and what I wanted to do with my nursing education/as a nurse. Further, I included comments on why I specifically want to go to UBC to obtain my nursing education by providing examples of how UBC Nursing's values and objectives align with my own. CASPer, ranked #3: Since I ranked quite high on the other two categories, it is clear that my CASPer results are what placed me on the reserve list rather than direct acceptance. I knew I didn't do well on this as I was taking the test, and after I completed it. I think I could have done more to prepare for this, such as doing more timed practice problems. I am not too down on myself for not doing well on this, however, as I know that with actual hands-on learning that I will obtain in nursing school, I will become better at making on-the-spot ethical decisions. Lastly, I don't think it really matters if you have a completed Bachelor's degree or not. If you take a look at the education profiles of UBC BSN faculty and leadership, you will see that a lot of prominent members have UBC BSN as their first degree ? As long as you can prove that your work, volunteer, and/or life experiences have readily prepared you to handle an accelerated program, and a career in Nursing, you can be considered a competitive applicant! Lastly lastly, I did get direct acceptance for BCIT for the Sep 2019 cohort, so it doesn't hurt to apply to as many programs as you can! For me, due to the prerequisites I had completed, I could only apply to UBC and BCIT (which were my main choices anyways). Hope this helps, and good luck to future applicants (and those who are also on the waitlist!)

It was posted on June 21st! Further, people on the reserve list in the mid-20's got admissions offers for the 2017 cohort on June 26th!

UBC BSN September 2019 Applicants
Based on what i've read from the forums from the last 2 years, people were offered seats from the reserve list in the second/third week of June. These people claim that Ruxanna had advised them that admissions offers are sent out to reserve applicants shortly after June 15th (the deadline for accepting offers). Therefore, those of us still on the reserve list still have to play the waiting game ? However, I am still happy with my results, as I did better than I thought I was going to do!
