  1. Hello Everyone- This is my first post on the site, so forgive me if this is the wrong section or anything. I am currently a senior nursing student in a BSN program. I have to submit my preceptorship requests soon...I am having trouble deciding what to pick. I am not sold on what area of nursing I want to try to get a job in upon graduation; I do know I very much liked my L&D rotation & Pediatric rotation so far. So if I rank L&D & Peds (1 & 2) on my list (you rank each area of nursing 1-8), I'd be happy with either outcome I think. But I guess I want others opinions on a few things: 1. If I were to pick L&D- are L&D skills transferable to other areas of nursing? In case I couldn't find an L&D job upon graduating and had picked this as a preceptorship, would I learn skills I could utilize in other areas? Also in my future career down the road I may not want to do hospital based nursing... I worry with only ob experience I would be limited in career options, again no disrespect to any specialty of nurses I am truly curious on the options out there... 2. There is an option to request a critical care placement (ED or ICU--they put you wherever there is a spot)... I have been thinking I may want to do ED for the preceptorship; if nothing else but for the variety of things to see/do, a great final learning experience while in school. But, I don't think I'd like ICU, I'm more interested in the ED environment.......Does anyone have any advice or insight? Should I take a chance and hope to get placement in ED? * & If I don't get a preceptorship in the ED and didn't get a new grad ED position- is it even remotely likely further down the line in my career that I'd be able to get an ED job if I realized it was my calling... I've tried making a pro/con list of ped/L&D/critical care and they are all about equal... haha! So, basically any constructive advice/tips are much appreciated. :) thanks all!
