Do nursing schools look at your entire unofficial transcripts?
Hey everyone. Right now I am only 1 bio-science class away from transferring to a nursing program and I am looking to strictly apply to state schools or community colleges. All my nursing prerequisite courses are at A and B-level grades, and I have NO withdraws for those courses. However i was previously an engineering major before I switched into nursing and unfortunately i have very bad record record on my engineering courses, i dropped about 4-5 courses in the 1 year and a half i was taking my Eng-prerequisites (namely physics and upper-math classes). Note this was only a couple years ago. Now i am realizing that perhaps this will gravely affect my chances of being accepted into a program, and that perhaps they wont see me as a dedicated student because of my past. Has anyone had a similar experience of mines? Did you still get into a program? Please do not recommend private schools since I am not taking out any loans. Thanks for any responses!

How is the San Diego Job Market?
Thats really a bummer, I am getting this feeling that this nursing profession is a lot more demanding of you than what I have previously thought requiring lots of ones energy, time, and commitment. I have plenty of friends in construction unions who work for a few months then go unemployed for a few months. I went into nursing thinking for this can be possible. Like just work for 1 -2 years, save up 100k and take a year off from work and travel, etc. But it seems this lifestyle alternative is somewhat laughable for an RN, would you second that?

not.done.yet - what do you mean the degree ages? like it will be more difficult to find a job if you spent a year or 2 unemployed?

Travel nursing? Those with experience - how does it work?
What up people, pre-nursing student here. I have a question for travel RNs - how does it work? Have some years left to finish my nursing education, but want to know what I am getting myself into to see if it will hinder some of my life goals. My ideal lifestyle post-graduation would be to work for a few months and take off a few months. The reason is for outdoors traveling, adventuring, mountain climbing etc. Plus i am single with no kids and plan to remain that way for a while. Anyways i don't have a lot of expenses and don't really need to work 12 months a year. A guy like me can very well do 4-6 months of work and make that last. So for those travel RNs out there how does the whole process work? Is it somewhat like a union where whenever you want work you just stroll by the union hall and ask for any work thats available? If so how easy is it getting hired? I hear most contracts are 13 weeks at most which is perfect! But i'm a little on edge on how smooth the whole process is. How many applications do you put in before landing a contract, how long do you wait until you get the position after applying? Genuinely appreciate all replies. Thanks.

My chances of getting into a nursing program in California?
@ tonyl1234 Thanks for the tip man, will do. I didn't think about calling them at all actually.... but will definitely do that since i'm open to all possibilities to make it work. I agree overall that they want more than just grades.

@ Karlaa Woah no wayy! Congratulations, hope its all going smoothly for you. This is literally so cool, if you got in with those grades then I have a lot more hope now then before to get into a local program. TBH this is so encouraging, I was getting desperate over here with my B in micro and you telling me this is like...... lifting a huge boulder off my back f'realz. LMC is totally up there on my list. And I have before thought-out that whole getting your ADN first then ADN-BSN bridge program. However I just feel really uplifted since our grades and profiles correspond very similarly which just gives me motivation to keep going. Thanks for the encouragement and good luck to you as well.

My chances of getting into a nursing program in California?
Ok cool, thanks a lot. All of this really helps me alleviate the anxieties I been having about getting in. In fact 300-500 is not all that bad for number of applicants to be applying. Usually what I keep hearing is that like most California RN programs have thousands of applicants.... which freaked the heck out of me lol.

My chances of getting into a nursing program in California?
However I am wondering about this whole lottery. If you applied once to a CC that has a lottery is that it? Meaning do you just have to wait until your name gets pulled or can you reapply to that CC every semester. So.... like if I applied to 30 schools with lottery then that means I can theoretically be waitlisted for years on end if none of those 30 schools pull my name......

My chances of getting into a nursing program in California?
Thanks for response. Congrats for getting into Sac thats awesome!! Yeah if thats how state schools run for the most part (absolutely having a 4.0....) then I won't even bother applying and i'll just stick to community colleges lol. I am closer to SF bay area and just 1 hour away from Sacramento. I will definitely not get a C, my grade is at an upper B as of now for microbiology. But then again I still have a chance to Ace the anat/physio in following semesters. I'd definitely would consider going out-of-state especially Nevada, Arizona, or NM. Thats probably as far as i'll go. I did not really consider getting an LVN, just because its one year and a half of separate schooling on its own.

My chances of getting into a nursing program in California?
Oh yeah most definitely. California has about 70-100 non-private RN programs that I have to apply from. Since day one it was always apart of my game plan to apply to as many schools as I can. Moving is not an issue, any school that'll take me is where i'll go. But will definitely heed your advice and focus on prepping for those interviews and entrance exams. Thanks a lot!

My chances of getting into a nursing program in California?
Hello, I am a 23 year old male pre-nursing student in California. I keep hearing that one needs straight A's in all their pre-nursing courses to have any chances of getting into a nursing school. Is this true? I am a little worried, since although I have A's in all my prerequisite courses(nutri, psych, stats, etc) it seems like I will attain B's in my Bioscience courses. Im in Microbiology now with a B, and yet to take anatomy and physiology in spring/summer. Did anyone here get into a nursing program- adn/bsn in California with B's in their Bioscience courses? Usually I hear that only 1/3 classes can be B, but 2 should be A's to realistically have a chance of getting into a program. I am not picky and will go to any CC or state school that accepts me. Please do not comment if you got into a private school and do not recommend either. I cannot take out loans due to religious reasons. I am specifically asking for those who got into state schools or community colleges. I do have extracurricular experiences: I am employed as a caregiver and will be volunteering in a hospital by next semester. By summer I'll be CNA certified. Those who got in can you tell me how was your Bioscience grades and how many times did you apply, if you were waitlisted how long were you waitlisted for? Thank you, I truly appreciate those who comment and give me some insight.
