El Centro students Spring '06
Thank you. I appreciate it. No I won't be returning to the nursing program at ECC. I will be taking classes at ECC but not towards nursing. I am done with all of my BSN if I was going that route for TWU. I replied more with the above post. Best of luck to everyone here!

Though I may not be going back to ECC I still plan on staying in school and going somewhere. I was thinking of doing my BSN to TWU. All I would have to do is apply for the program. I am already accepted into the university and they have all of my records and everything though I am thinking of changing my major to something completely different. Either way I will be getting a degree. Thanks but there is nothing to be sorry about. I feel like things happen for a reason and due to a lot of things that I was thinking and feeling and than I failed lecture and this is just an opportunity for me to pick myself up and move on to something else.

Oh it was needed. I failed out of the semester before they used it so I never opened it. I heard it takes a long time to do. I won't be returning to the nursing program at ECC so I sold all of my books. I wish I can sell back my syllabus. Good luck to everyone!!

lol I was wondering if I actually knew the person whom I was sending it to. lol You guys aren't using that book anymore? It was required with us. Did they change it where you aren't doing the virtual excursions? I got a letter from ECC stating I have been a designated Priority I status for readmission into the program so my application has been approved, pending space availability and my completion of 'projects' I have to do. How in the world will they get everyone who failed this semester back in the program? There were quite a few of them. Oh I forgot to say that I have copies of the Pharm packets that I can e-mail to if you want them. I don't know if they are updated though but you can get a general idea. SO if anyone wants them just PM me with your email address.

For this past 2nd semester schedule they had 5 clinical sections and depending on which section you choose it will rotate with another section. like for example Section 5211 which was a Pedi rotation at MC. First you will go do the pedi rotation at Medical City and when they tell you it is time to rotate to do OB and M/S you was suppose to go to section 5212 for OB and 5213 for M/S. Section 5212 which was at Parkland for OB/M-S you do that rotation and than you will go for MC for Pedi. I had section 5215 which was at Charlton and we had OB/M-S which we did for like 8 weeks and than 2 days was done at MC for Pedi. You can have the pedi rotation first or you can start out with OB/M-S just depending which section you get. ECC only had 1 teacher for Pedi so we only got 2 days at MC and we had to do SIMS baby to gain more experience. I hope that helps some. I have the whole schedule in front of me for this semester. They will probably have an orientation at ECC for all of the schools like they had back when school started that will tell you all information and the section you choose, your clinical instructor will tell you where you need to be on what days. It is different for each section because when we was going to clinical other people had a couple of weeks off while we was still going. I hope all of that made sense. The school might describe it better. :)

I think just because I had dropped does not mean I am not fighting the rule. I wish I was given the option like the girl was to stay and fight the rule instead of dropping and trying to fight it. The person who we are talking about, I had last semester in my clinical. As far as I can see she did a good job. I was not always around her but she was always really good with her patients from what I can see. El Centro has a lot of issues. There is a teacher who told someone I know that because she is really nervous with check-offs that she should try to find another career. Who is she to tell someone this? She shakes really bad when she has check-offs but when it comes to clinical she did a good job from what I can see last semester when I had her in my clinical.

Come to find out she got a few extra points on a test so she did not have 2 grades 70 and below. Just 1 because the other test she said she got a few points. This is what the lecture teacher told me when she called me back.

I don't think a math equation should tell us weather we are capable of passing or not. If someone has 2 60's there could be a chance of passing with at least a 78 if someone studied their butt off for the rest of the tests. I don't think they should decide if we should drop or not. We are the ones who pay and we should be the ones to decide if we can make it to a 78 or not. I only took 2 tests, if I was given the chance of taking the 3rd test before the drop date than I could have figured out if I could have made it to a 78. I had this problem last semester too. I didn't have 2 grades below 70 though but I almost didn't make it to a 78. I decided to stay and actually made higher than a 78 because I was determined to pass and I should have been given that option this semester too. I just don't think they should be allowed to make the decisions for us when we are adults and we can make the decision ourselves and we are the ones who spend all of that money. I could have at least tried to bring it up and that is what I wanted to do but instead I was forced to drop. Anyways I just think the whole system is screwed up. Good luck to you too! :)

Thank you!! I agree Sunnyjohn. I had A's in clinical and skills but lecture is what was killing me. I believe lecture tests does not prove how anyone would be as a nurse and I paid all of that money, I should be allowed to decide if I should drop or not.

For some reason I was upset when I turned 21. LOL I don't feel too bad now after turning 30. I think just what makes me feel so old is my daughter who is the oldest is 11 and has an attitude of a 16 year old.

I am one of those people who had to drop because of that rule and I am not happy about the whole situation. I have left messages with several faculty at El Centro and so far no one has called me back and I have contacted a lawyer now. I don't think it is fair for everyone who had to drop. If the person who is staying in the program now is forced to drop than I am really sorry but I think if we all followed the rules, than she should too.

Week 3 was our Vital Sign check-off. I wouldn't miss that week at all. It seemed like there were check-offs left and right. Oh and also they deduct points if you are absent. I think it was 2 pts. They check roll each day and everything because they want you there.

Clinicals started at ECC during week 7/8. Week 7 was when we had our orientation and the next day after that was when we followed a nurse around and officially we picked out our own pts during week 8.

I am in Micro right now and it is with Chandler at EC. It ends on Thursday thank goodness. Anyways she really is a good teacher. She explains things in ways you can understand. It requires tons of study time but that could be because I am taking it in the summer. I have only taken A&P I and II and Micro in the summer so not sure how they would be in the normal semester. Good luck!!

North Lake/El Centro - Fall '06!
I think it is heartwrenching no matter if I know them or not. It is so sad to read in the news about a child that was abused. They are so defenseless and it seems like there is nothing you can do about it. That is what I am afraid of if I work in the NICU or with older children. I want to go into but it is going to take a lot out of me when I have to deal with the stupid parent's.

According to the announcements in the lecture class, there will be a clinical orientation at ECC on the 28th. They show 2 rooms so I wonder if it will be broken up? She also has up the Fall 06 Class Schedule for the lecture class.

*Microbiology-Summer 2006*
I will be going into my 2nd semester of nursing school and I decided to take it during the summer because I will be busy with the nursing classes and didn't want another class to add to my stress.

Looking through the microscope can be pretty tricky. A lot of people in our class always have to get our teacher to come and help us and than we are like wow that was easy. It just takes some getting use to. I always don't know exactly what I am trying to find and once the teacher finds it I always am like "oh yeah I see it now". As for the open book/take home exams, I never thought about it. We don't have any open book or take home exams. I go to a classroom and all of our exams are during class. A lot of times the open book and take home exams are harder. Our teacher tells us what will be on the test and gives us good notes and we don't have to read the whole book in order to grasp what we need to know since our teacher is a really good one who like what she does and it just clicks in my head once she describes it. Too confusing in the book. Good luck!!

North Lake/El Centro - Fall '06!
I have the storage one. I liked it better cause I had a lot of black pens in there along with papers and my PDA with my drug guide on it and my keys when I didn't wear my lab coat or a scrub top with pockets. What I liked the most was I can sit anywhere and have something hard to write on to do charting. Not sure about the other bookstore. I only saw Majors there.

North Lake/El Centro - Fall '06!
I didn't buy it through the SNA. I wanted a Cardiology III stethoscope so I bought that online and the blood pressure cuff and the pen light was bought at Majors Bookstore which is close to Parkland off of Harry Hines and I just got a vis-a-vis pen at Target. I also got a clipboard and scissors through Majors. I didn't care about the custom SNA logo bag. Good luck at your orientation!!

*Microbiology-Summer 2006*
We just did the capsule stain yesterday and saw our results today. It was pretty cool. Lab is going ok for me. At times it gets frustrating with the microscopes but after awhile I can see it. We haven't done acid fast yet. Good luck!!
