  1. Don't stress too much. Last year, acceptance emails/letters were not completely sent out until the beginning of March.
  2. So happy for all of y’all!!! Did anyone apply to the BSN to DNP program? That is the program I’m currently in with the FNP specialty. You all will more than likely take patho first. It’s a very trying 5 credit class. If y’all have the same instructors in the fall and you remember this, I can tell you the best way to study for each professor. There are three that teach patho. I passed the class with an A but over half the class did not. I think there were only 3 of us out of like 100 students. Several different cohorts were taking the class. Anyhow, congratulations to you all again!!
  3. I’m excited for you all! I remember the feeling you all have of waiting. It’ll be here before you know it.
  4. Mary, if you're going for your masters right now, I would assume you can include research. I understand your point regarding the DNP and that is true. However, you have to remember that many others are applying for the same spot and those looking at the applications would consider someone who emphasizes evidence based practice over someone who includes research. Your professional statement is weighted heavily. That's in your future though, right now, regarding your masters.... I don't see why you couldn't include research but I'm not sure what advice was given in that session. I'm praying all the best for you.
  5. Mary, are you going for your masters, your PhD or DNP? I was (for whatever reason) assuming you were going for your DNP. PhD is research and DNP is evidence based. I am going for my DNP and attended that session and provided feedback from I remember from that session. Private message me so we can talk further but I wanted to make that clear for anyone else who reads the thread.
  6. Read my comment to Mary above, that may be helpful to you as well.
  7. Hey, you can submit a new professional statement if that's what you are wishing you could do again. I had my application submitted before I went to the info session and was able to submit a new professional statement afterwards. They will only read the most recent I was told. My first one had a big NO-NO in it so I assume they weren't lying because I got accepted.
  8. Hello... The things I can remember they said about the professional statement were as follows... DO NOT write that you want to do research. DO Write that you want to put evidence based research into practice. I was told in my info session that anyone who said they wanted to do research was automatically denied. Make sure your passion for the specialty you choose shows in your statement. Those are the two things that stood out that I can recall. Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance. Praying all the best for you.
  9. There was nothing else after the interview. Just waiting. The interview has to be completed with the application though, by the deadline. Just making that clear. I have a 3.7 GPA from nursing school, however, my overall GPA is less than impressive. I have a degree in Criminal Justice and that GPA brought my overall GPA down quite a bit. Which is why I go back to telling you be sure to have strong LOR and a strong professional statement. I was a medic in the army for over four years and have been an Emergency Department/ Trauma nurse for 2.5 years.
  10. @mele_based sorry, I told you wrong. Online classes are actually synchronized. At least for my program they are.
  11. Hey. So I start school this month so I'll have to keep you posted on how the program is. I'm in the FNP DNP program. I'm going full-time at the campus and plan to still work in the ED and BHU each one night a week. From what my program manager told me, I will not start clinical until the 3rd year. I live two hours away and will be able to do clinical at the hospital I currently work at if I want to. The online classes are asynchronous. I answered your question regarding the online interview in my first response. I will add to make sure you dress professional. It's still an interview you need to take seriously. You have a short amount of time to answer the questions but don't stress yourself about it. It's not their top focus of the application.
  12. Hey! Thanks for your service. I'm a veteran too. I was a medic in the army. *air five*. Anyhow... The process for acceptance was pretty cut and dry. Make sure you attend in person or on line the meeting they hold with more information and tips on what to include and what NOT to include in your professional statement. They don't want to hear about how you want to be apart of research. They want to hear about how you want to be apart of evidence based practice. Have you taken the GRE yet? No one does an in-person interview anymore. After the dead line has passed, it's just a waiting game. Decisions are made in mid-late February to early March. BSN-to-DNP students are the last to know. At least that seemed to be the case this year. Are you applying full or part time? Are you using the GI Bill? I was blessed to be allowed to use vocational rehab, so try to go that route if you can if you are at least 30% disabled. It can be a real challenge to explain/prove why you need a terminal degree but if you can get it, it'll be great. They'll pay for all your years plus three more months of BAH after you're done if you haven't found a job yet. They give you a computer, printer and smart pen if you need it. You get a stipend and refunded any expenses you put out for school already. There is a 250 fee that has to be paid once accepted. Wait to apply for Vocational rehab until after accepted though. Anyhow, do you plan to work full-time while in school? I'm all over the place. Ttyl
  13. Hello, thanks for responding. I pray everything goes well for you. What is your working background? To answer your question, there are five interview questions. Many people worry about this part but it’s the least of your worries. You need to be sure to have a strong professional statement and strong letters of recommendation with examples of the characteristics/qualities mentioned. So back to the interview questions... I can’t remember all of them but one was the same as one of the questions you are asked to address in your professional statement so be sure to be consistent with your answer. One that I do recall (because my signal was poor and I froze, ha) is “tell me about a time (work or personal life) where you are proud of what you accomplished.” That wasn’t the exact wording but something along those lines. I applied last year by the way and I start this month.
  14. @resptoFnpplease to answer your question below... All applicants were notified in February. That's the information I received from staff. Some were even notified in early to mid March of their acceptance. I was one of the late acceptances as well and I WAS NOT wait listed. It seemed that they were doing one cohort at a time... First regular nursing students going for 4 years... Then those going for their BSN, then BSN TO MSN, MSN TO DNP and BSN TO DNP respectively. Most of those being denied knew early, those getting wait listed varied. A person could get wait listed and the next three accepted so it definitely was not based on available space. Hope that helps. My info session was for the DNP program so my advice was a little different. They want to see the passion you have for whatever specialty you're interested in come out in your statement. That's really important. Be sure to answer all questions listed for the professional statement though. I wish I could be of more help regarding this. I would like to add that your letter of recommendations need to be strong and have the person writing it include an "example of a time" that shows the reader why he or she stated you have the traits spoken of in the LOR.
