  1. Vanderbilt has a program that people with non nursing BA can enter, its called the prespecialty program, that eventually leads to a MSN. My bachelor's degree is in molecular biology, and I completed the first 2 years of med school before having to withdraw for failing to pass the first part of the board exam. I am thinking about applying to the Vanderbilt prespecialty program, then picking PMHNP as my specialty. The program is 2 years, after the first year you can become a RN, the second is accelerated PMHNP school. The thing is, with a program like this, would I be well prepared to practice as a PMHNP? My dream job would be telepsychiatry. The ability to live anywhere or travel while I work is appealing to me, But I worry if it will be difficult to find a job with no psych nurse experience. Has anyone ever completed this program or a program like this and now working in telepsych? What was the process of finding a job like? I think you can work as a psych RN after the first year, but for personal reasons I would prefer to go straight through the program.
  2. Hi, I am interested in hearing the experiences of people in the Vanderbilt prespecialty program. There doesn't seem to be anyway to PM you so I have to ask here. How intense is the first year? How are the clinicals and are they intense or relatively laid back? Also how is the job market? Is it relatively easy for people who did the program full time for 2 years and went straight through to get hired? I would think groups would be hesitant to hire someone with all the knowledge but no experience as a psych nurse. My dream job would be telepsych, do you know anyone who has accepted a job like that? If so could you put me in touch with them? Thanks for doing this.
  3. Hi, I'm applying for the entering class of 2020 and I have a few questions. I am interested in prespecialty and pmhnp. I see that you can finish the program in 2 years if you do prespecialty then do the specialty year for pmhnp full-time. Is that how most people do it, or do most people choose to work part-time during the pmhnp making the specialty portion 2 years? I really like that Vanderbilt offers the options and flexibility for non-nursing majors to become MSNs, but do graduates feel prepared to practice after only 2 years?
  4. Okay, so I am thinking of doing the accelerated BSN then PMHNP program at Vanderbilt. My academic past is complicated, I use to be a med student but got dismissed. I just want to know, what type of work do you guys do day to day, how easy is it to find a job, and what is the pay like?
