From my understanding, I'm pretty sure that comment was referring to accepted April applicants! By December 7th they have to confirm their seats and hopefully, if anyone declines the offer, the waitlist will hear about any spots opening up

@cat19 They weigh your education (degree/number of credits) quite heavily during the ranking process and I believe 18 credits is the absolute bare minimum. When I talked to admissions last year, they strongly recommended applying with more credits and I realize now that I would've have had a slight chance with only 24 credits! Also, one of my friends recently applied with a phenomenal application in every aspect but then only had 33 credits so she was waitlisted because of that. Don't let it discourage you though - you'll never know unless you try!

Hmm, yeah maybe. I thought the deadline to defer to April was mid-November so I'm surprised that no one has heard yet from the top 15. But knowing at least one person has dropped their seat for January is amazing news for whoever is #1 on the waitlist!

Oh wow, that's pretty soon! Thanks for the info :)

I have mine done as well but it would definitely be a good idea to have it completed sometime in December! Since none of us have been notified yet I'm starting to think maybe all of the January applicants paid their full tuition and decided to stay in that intake..

I got this response to an email too! It made me feel super relieved hearing about our chances of getting in, so fingers crossed we all make it :) What did you apply with? And I'm assuming you applied to January?

BCIT January/April 2019 Intake Discussion
Yeah, me too... and then I had November 17th written down as the deadline to defer

I really hope so too! They'll keep the April waitlist going until class starts, but at least we'll have time to apply for the September 2019 intake if we don't get accepted by February 15th. And good luck to you - let us know if you get an offer from the waitlist!

What I got from their response was that perhaps the April class hasn't sent out all 64 acceptance letters yet? Maybe once the January class has started and there are no available seats to give out, they will give the remaining seats to those on the January waitlist, then reorganize any remaining waitlisted candidates to form an April waitlist. Does that kind of make sense? (This is all assuming that April does not currently have a waitlist or a full class!)
-
BCIT January/April 2019 Intake Discussion
Yes, it did! I'm a little confused though.. does that mean there is currently not a waitlist for April and that they'll be putting it together after the January class starts? It also isn't clear to me still whether or not the April class is full, if they still have to "finalize" it.

Yeah, can anyone who got accepted into April share the start date? Also, any deadlines for deferring or paying tuition/commitment fee, please! It gives the waitlisted applicants some dates to hopefully hear a response by. :)

Hey everyone, just an update for that email I sent out: If those on the January waitlist are not offered a seat for that intake, we will be considered for April. They will rank us against the waitlisted applicants for the April 2019 class, so we may be positioned differently from our current situation (top 15, top 50, etc). Not certain about whether or not April has a waitlist yet, as they will have everything finalized (class + waitlist) by February 15th. They also said that the number of offers given to waitlisted applicants has varied over the years, typically between 10-25.

I'm really, really hoping that April isn't full because that would mean the January waitlist gets to fill the remaining seats! I wonder if we're allowed to ask at this point how many people applied/were shortlisted/were accepted for ONLY April. Are both intakes usually equal in their competition?

I emailed them late last night asking whether all 64 seats were sent out for April, and if so, if there is also a separate waitlist for April. Still waiting on a response but will update as soon as I know!

If I'm still waitlisted for the April intake by the end of February, I will also be applying for the September 2019 intake! I really hope I'll hear back before then, but if not, maybe my chances will be better having completed 69 credits (including both LIBS courses) and longer work experience after my Fall semester is finished.

BCIT January/April 2019 Intake Discussion
They aren't too bad! I can message you in more detail if you would like :) Also, both courses are offered in Burnaby as well - so if you prefer a classroom setting, that's still an option! Did you get accepted into the April intake?
-

If you search either LIBS course on the BCIT website, you should find the location as either online (through D2L) or at the Burnaby campus

The two courses, LIBS 7001 and 7021, are actually part of the BCIT Nursing Program that you can take in advance. They are not required prior to acceptance, however, if you include these two courses in your application, you can get additional points in the ranking system because it shows the Nursing Department that you are determined to get into their program (since the LIBS courses are only for BCIT - they do not transfer elsewhere). Also, if you end up getting accepted, those are 2 fewer courses you need to take during your program since you have already completed them. I highly recommend taking both ASAP if you are certain BCIT is where you want to go!

I'm wondering about this too and whether or not all 64 seats were given out for the April intake. If not, I'd assume that those on the January waitlist will probably receive priority acceptance (if January stays full). *emailed them, will update once they respond!

BCIT January/April 2019 Intake Discussion
Ahh, I really hope that won't be the case for many of us! It'd be heartbreaking waiting another 3-4 months just to not receive an offer

I'm currently taking them both online and it isn't too bad! Message me if you have any questions :)

BCIT January/April 2019 Intake Discussion
Congratulations to everyone who has received their acceptance! :) I just wanted to share this comment from an old intake in case it applies to anyone: "A kind word to those that have been offered a seat but know they will not attend: Please let BCIT know as soon as you know you won't be attending this program, so they may offer the seat to others on the waitlist as soon as possible. Many of those waitlisted have to wait to see if seats become available, and have to make life decisions like moving, pay tuitions/down payments on houses, enrol in other programs, start summer classes, jobs by certain deadlines these upcoming months. The later that they are accepted/rejected from the waitlist, the higher jeopardy the family, financial, academic and other issues of their lives are put at stake. This is hopefully a little reminder during this time, speaking to the humanity and compassion in all of us as future colleagues. As we all make insightful decisions, sending the best wishes to everyone, those making these decisions, those attending and those pursing a career elsewhere, good luck!"

Hahahaha no kidding, the ultimate wait! Did you get the same email about top 15? I'm assuming that's the only waitlist email they've sent out thus far

Hey @orangecat02! Hopefully we can ask admissions after the 31st once they've sent out all the emails and things are more settled down. What did you apply with?
