NCLEX and Job Timeline
Hi all! I have a question about applying to RN positions. I'll be finishing my degree the first week of August but I'm not 100% sure on when the school will have transcripts sent, etc. for me to take the NCLEX, and with COVID backing things up I'm not sure if any dates to take it will even be available once I'm cleared to test. That being said, I really want to get started on applying for jobs- I feel like I've waited too long already. I had a few questions- Is it OK to apply without having taken the NCLEX or set a date to take it yet? Some postings I'm seeing have something like "1 year experience required, extraordinary new grads will be considered,". Not exactly sure what that means! I have tried to improve my application. Nursing is my second the degree and while the first degree GPA isn't anything crazy, my nursing GPA is a 3.9. I do have 1.5 years experience as a CNA on a med/surg floor. I have my BLS and also went ahead and did ACLS too (though I figure it's still something I'll definitely to need to learn through experience and work). I'd also love to work in an ICU or stepdown that'd take me, so if anyone has any advice related to that I'd really appreciate it! Thank you!

I think they mention in the second email they sent that Jan. 7th was a priority deadline. I also submitted mine about four days late- I'm not sure how exactly it might affect said financial aid package but I wouldn't think that submitting after Jan. 7th means you won't get any need-based aid. I also heard need-based aid packages come out (hopefully!) this week or at the very least in the near future.

They did accept like AP Exam credits (for AP Lit) for the English/Composition requirement they had- but I did have to actually take the class in high school. Seems like it would be worth asking if they would accept an exam score w/o the class if you're awarded some sort of college credit.

I'm applying to NYU also, but for the September 2019 start! I'm also leaning towards Columbia because it offers a Master's in 15 months vs a BSN in 15 mos. Anyone know what the tuition for the NYU ABSN/how many semesters the program is? I've been trying to find the total price, but there's only semester costs. Also just out of curiosity- who else here applied for the Family Nursing specialty at Columbia?

I submitted my app on 10/15! The application portal shows a green checkmark next to all the items except the essays which have little essay (?) icons next to them. I still haven't gotten an email about my application making it through the first step. The next few months of waiting are going to feel like forever! Also, was there a priority deadline for this application? I thought I heard something about it, and the 2018 thread for this program talks about there being one, but I couldn't find any info or a specific date on the Columbia website or in the emails that Columbia sent. Good luck to you all! (:

Hey! I'm an undergrad student applying for the FNP program! I had a question about the application for anyone who's completed the video portion already. On the website, it's called the "video essay" and we're provided with one question to answer. (An obstacle in your life and how you overcame it.) In the email we get for the video essay link, however, it says "interview" instead of video essay. So- is the one provided question the only thing that we submit, or is it a single/central question included with other questions, kind of like a general video interview that we submit? Any info on this would be appreciated! Thank you!
