SPC Spring 2019
Hi everyone! I just finished level 1 and I wanted to come on here and give you guys some advice I wish I had going into level 1. The most important thing I can tell you is that all of the exam content comes straight from the Fundamentals book! If it's not in the book, they won't test on it, so don't worry about extra content that doesn't come from that book. The PowerPoints are a helpful guideline, but you must read the chapters in the book at least once, but preferably more. They will take one random sentence in the middle of a big paragraph and ask a question on that and you don't want to miss it. Pay special attention to the boxes and tables in the chapters because there are always questions that come from those. Also make sure to study the drug capsules that are in the assigned chapters. In pre-reqs we're used to straight forward questions, but nursing school likes to make them situational-based so you will have to use some critical thinking. On theory exams 3 and 4 you will have 5 med math questions, and 20 on the final. I was thoroughly confused on the first day med math was taught, if that happens to you, go to NIP and they will help you learn how to set your equations up. Once you figure that out, the rest is easy and it's the same type of questions with different numbers. Nursing school is hard and there will be a time where it's so overwhelming you feel like you don't even have time to breath. Just remember to use your resources, ask questions, and remember the end goal of getting that RN license! Good luck and feel free to ask me any questions you have, I'm more than happy to help!!

No Amazon has them. That's where I ordered them from haha.

SPC Nursing Fall 2018
Did you order the Drug guide and the handbook separately? I had to because I didn't see a package on Amazon. Do you remember what the original delivery date was supposed to be? My fundamentals books and the Davis handbook have already shipped but I wonder if I'll get an email about the drug guide. For now it still says it will be here on Tuesday. And I know I'm a little surprised the bookstore didn't have more in stock.

I couldn't find either the Davis or Fundamentals package through Amazon at all, but I did go ahead and order all four of them individually from there. The actual Davis drug guide wont be here until Tuesday but at least the Fundamentals book & workbook will be here tomorrow because the first week's assigned readings that I received in my MyCourses email is from that book and I absolutely did not want to risk not having that by the first day. Thank gosh for free 2-day shipping hahaha.

SPC Nursing Fall 2018
Haha it's fine! Yeah I think the classes are only 3 hours on those days. I'm also hoping more information comes out tomorrow when the courses open. I know the gentleman who did our orientation said 1 pm on Monday for day students but I keep second guessing myself because I just think that's so late for a first day to start, especially for nursing lol! But it makes sense as that is what is on our schedule for Mondays anyway.

SPC Nursing Fall 2018
Uh oh! I was just at the bookstore earlier today and they didn't say anything like that to me when I was talking with them about my online order which includes the Fundamentals book. I think I'm going to cancel that part of my order and just get it on Amazon. They're in stock and actually $1 cheaper than the bookstore have you got the Elsevier package yet? Honestly after picking that up today I don't think I'm going to bring every single one to class the first day. It's so heavy and along with the Fundamentals and Davis books it's literally going to break anything I put them in lol.

My schedule in MySPC says Monday 1p-3p, TuWe 7a-3p and Thursday 8a-11a. If you're referring to the Thursday class I think we are supposed to be there at 8, but in the Nursing Commons on MyCourses a bulletin was posted on August 3rd that says "When coming to on campus clinical class meetings remember that day students report at 7 a.m. and evening students report at 3 p.m." Those on campus clinical days would be Tuesday and Wednesday so those days we definitely need to show up at 7. On Monday the 13th we do not need to be there until 1pm, I'll probably show up about half an hour early to make sure I can find the classroom hahaha. I'm going to double check with my instructor on Monday but I do believe the class times on our schedules are accurate.

Has everyone purchased their books and scrubs already? With me being out of town this weekend I'm not going to be able to purchase them until I get back on Tuesday and I'm stressing a little bit that they won't have the package in stock or scrubs available in my size. I would call the bookstore to check on the stock but they are already closed and will be until Monday. I wanted to buy everything earlier but I had to wait for some scholarship money to be awarded haha!

I'm going to the one at 11 on Tuesday. I wanted to go to all of them but for one of them I'll still be in Las Vegas lol.

I priced them out and to rent them through Amazon is a good bit cheaper than buying the package and the other books we need. But I've been given the advice to buy them instead of renting them, for use in future semesters, in which case it's cheaper in the long run to go through the bookstore. Even through my pre-req's it was always cheaper to rent/buy directly from the bookstore, SPC doesn't really jack up the prices like some of the universities do. :)

The Fundamentals Q&A is an optional book. I don't think the MySPC is very accurate haha. If you go into MyCourses > College of Nursing commons > Course content > Book lists > Book lists for Session I 18-19 it will have a list of all the books that should be included in the package, the other 4 required books we need, and the list of optional ones. Fundamentals is listed under optional. It has that same list on one of the pages that was handed out during orientation, but I can't find that right now lol. However, I can't find the F.A. Davis package that we need on the bookstore's website, so maybe they'll be able to locate it for me at the bookstore when I go later this week. I could always buy them separately but I'd like to know if I could save some money with the package.

I'm going to buy one. After reading reviews and comparing prices I think I'm going to buy the Office Depot mobile rolling cart w/ lid. Decent reviews and the biggest one I can find for the price. I'm hoping the 15 or so books we need to buy fit in there hahaha. Someone on this forum also previously recommended the ECR4Kids MemoryStor Universal Rolling Cart and Organizer Bag Set, Black: Childrens Arts And Crafts Supplies: Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific it's a little pricier but has an organizer canvas, though I'm not sure I'll need all that. Edit: The ECR rolling cart has a designated 65 lb. limit, while the Office Depot one does not specify. Ill keep that in mind because I'm sure all those books will add up to quite a bit of weight and I don't want it to break!

Oh yay! Looking forward to meeting you on the first day of school. :)

SPC Nursing Fall 2018
Someone on here posted that a previous nursing student gave them the advice to bring all the books and the skills kit on day one in a rolling cart so you don't break your back lol. But I get the anxiety, I don't want to be like the only one there the first day lugging the whole haul when everyone else showed up with a book or two I don't know if I'll bring my computer the first day. I heard they give codes or something for the ATI so maybe it would be helpful just in case. If you're already bringing the rolling cart might as well just stick it in there LOL.

After you log into your account click MySPC and it should be under the "my schedule" tab. It might take a little bit for them to register you because you were just recently accepted but it will be there eventually! Because the summer semester is over it should automatically default to Aug 13-Dec 17 but if not you'll have to change it with the drop down menu.

Let me know what clinical site you get placed at! Hardly anyone I've talked to is doing days and no one I know is at Northside for days with me hahaha.

I went through In-Pulse CPR - Get CPR Certification in Minnesota, Pennsylvania, and Florida they have a bunch of classes in all kinds of locations so there might be one fairly close to you before school starts. My instructor was Tiffany and she was awesome!

Definitely call Kathy asap. Your situation is exactly what I was worried about when I went to speak with her. For me, the original documentation was enough, but I know you've said you can't get your hands on those records. She would be the best person to talk to and see what your options are. Good luck! :)

I'm hoping to head to Skechers sometime this week to take a look. I've been browsing their website and the Go Walks and Flex Appeals look like the logo is small enough and blends well so they should fit dress code requirements. They also have pretty good reviews. I'm hopibg they'll have some on sale in store! :) I may check out some Nike as well.

No problem! I hope those records will do so you don't have to get more blood work! After having blood drawn 3 times in the last month (twice for my doctor, once for school) I finally got a nasty looking bruise so hopefully no more blood draws for a while lol

I would say because they're willing to accept immunizations that could be decades old, they would probably accept titers from a couple years ago. You could always upload them to Castlebranch and see what response you get. Or you could give Kathy Boylson a call tomorrow, she's the one who told me to call her for any immunization questions I had. Her office number is 727-341-3633 and her email is [email protected] :)
