  1. I do not work, I am lucky enough to not have to work during nursing school. That being said, I know many people in my cohort who have to work and they are able to balance work and school. A girl in my group has twins and works part time and she is doing great in the program, but of course that takes discipline. I would recommend maybe trying to get a work study, that way you can earn money and still be able to study. Some work studies you are able to work and have some time to study while you work. Random tip: Sleep is very important. I can not stress this enough. You will have classes early in the morning and then lab after. You want to be able to focus in class, because you will get important information and it is pure lecture based. The teacher does not write their own notes on a white board and you have to rely on yourself to take good notes (most students take notes on computer). Lectures are long and you want to stay focused, luckily they give a few breaks during lecture. Another random tip: Start saving money NOW. There are some expenses that you will have to make in the beginning of the program and it will leave a dent in your bank. Like getting a stethoscope(try to get a decent one if you can, but not too expensive. Most of us have a littman classic 3), purchasing ATI, Shadow Health, scrubs, shoes, watch (get a watch with a second hand), your laptop must meet requirements by the school or you have to purchase a new one (we didn't have to purchase with the school, but it could change), insurance, parking pass (varies in price), seat deposit to reserve your spot. Sorry if this post sounds is a bit of a bummer, but you can do it. If you truly want to achieve your goals you will do whatever it takes to get there and nothing will stop you.
  2. It's going along pretty great. It is a big adjustment than what I am used to, but I enjoy it. I've definitely had to change my priorities and make sacrifices to allow some time toward my schooling, but it is only 2 years and it will go by fast. I think what makes nursing school hard is staying on top of everything, there are so many assignments that you can easily lose track and forget about something. Or you have several important tasks to do simultaneously at the same. I would say try to build good study habits now and organization.
  3. Hello all. I am a current nursing student at UTHSCSA, I am in my 1st semester. If y'all have any questions let me know. Also with the Hep B you do need a titer to prove that you are immune. I did have my vaccines when I was a kid, but I was not immune and had to redo the process all over again and get another titer. Once you get your acceptance letters you can always contact the student health & wellness center if you have any questions on the instructions.
  4. UT Health SoN Class of Fall 2020 Here is the link again, and inform anybody you know who got accepted as well to join the group. Don't be afraid to discuss and post on the page. We are all here to help each other out and go through this process together.
  5. let me know if you are able to see the group. Hopefully I did it right.
  6. UT Health SoN SA class of Fall 2020 Here is the link
  7. I really want to start a facebook page and get as much of us as possible. All I need are emails for facebook, so that I can start the group.
  8. Immunization Information - Student Health Center - UT Health Science Center-San Antonio Here is a link on their website, and I'm not too sure on their exact date it needs to be completed by. Probably when you accept the offer they will send you more information.
  9. Now all we need to do is create a facebook page for us all, so that way we can all stay in touch throughout this process.
  10. I just got my acceptance letter from UTHSCSA... everybody check your emails.
  11. I called today and they gave me the same response as well.
  12. It would be great if they all came out today, but we will see.
  13. I have yet to hear anything from them. Minutes are starting to feel like hours now.
  14. Yes, I received the email as well. I am so excited. Now all I need to hear from is UTHSCSA.
  15. Oh my goodness, another long week wait for us all. It's taking them a little longer than usual compared to past application cycles. I wonder how many applicants there were for this cycle.
