Riverside City College (RCC) School of Nursing (SON) - Spring 2020
Hello all. I'm heading into my last semester, but looked back in my emails and it took 11 days for my to get an email saying they received my application. It may be taking a bit longer due to Covid. If any of you get in and would like to get your uniforms from somewhere other than the super expensive website they give you, please send me a PM. I have some I'd like to get rid of. They're new BTW.

Lynn is just the skills book. Taylor is the Fundamentals book, the actual "text book" you read from and have PrepU assignments. The passports due on any given day pertain to what you're doing that day. So if you have CNSL later in the week, they aren't due on your seminar days, and vice versa. I would advise to try and have your passports for the week done by Monday, because the days can be long and the feeling of procrastination sucks. Just always double check your KSAs.

passports=homework In my first semester you had to have them completed or you weren't able to attend the seminar/CNSL, so make sure you do them. Seminar passports were checked off by classmates (they had to write some commentary on your work and sign their name confirming it was/was not done), and CNSL passports by faculty (they would just walk by and see it's completed). I tried to treat my passports like notes, because you use them to study for exams (and the NCLEX, eventually!). Some of them IMHO were not helpful for exams, so learn where to invest your time and effort for those.

Don't worry. I literally received my uniform like 2 days before class started. And yes I bought on the deadline day. The company seemed to wait until the last minute and next day shipped it. Give them a call to see the status of your order if you want. The fit isn't so great. The pant uniforms are not completely elastic like we had tried on in bootcamp (not sure if they've changed it). It is only elastic in the back for the pants, making it veryyyyy difficult to put on. The tops also have smaller head holes, so that can be difficult too, depending on the size you got and the size of your head.

The coursepoint plus comes with the ebook, which you can download onto your iPad from the school, your phone, etc. You have the option to pay ~$50 or so for them to print you a "book" (unbound, loose pages). I prefer a hardcover, it's nicer to highlight in and make little notes. I did not go that route, however, because I just didn't have the extra money. And it's been completely fine for me so far! So, no, I don't really think it's necessary to have the actual hardcover book.

It's definitely not optional, you'll need to bring it a lot in N11 for CNSL (Clinical Nursing Skills Lab). You don't even really use all of the items in it, and sometimes the things you do need to practice with aren't even in the bag, but are available (in limited quantities sometimes) in the lab. I bought a different stethoscope after the first CNSL day because I couldn't hear well with it, but many students do just fine with the one in our bag. If anyone has received their uniform already and have a problem with the fit and need a different size (they are kind of awful) PM me, I may have one for you!

No, you'd pay online at your leisure-- they will give you the info. Nothing is charged to your student account except for classes and the misc. school fees. They have different packages.. I think the package I bought was the Lippincott one around ~$1200. I chose to buy the Elsevier and others separately. The discount/rebate is like 20% I believe. Uniforms were $52 for the tops and $40 for the bottoms, but they may have changes prices since then. The company is Dove apparel. No problem! There are quite a few other things to buy as well... the supply bag, Kaplan, examsoft... it adds up!

Congratulations to all of those who've received their acceptances! I'm finishing up my second semester. If I can be of any help, please let me know! This is the beginning of the roller coaster that is nursing school! A few words of advice: Definitely go get started on your titers and immunizations ASAP.If you need MMR or Varicella, do not get it between getting your 2-step TB tests done. Get the TB done completely, then do your MMR and/or Varicella. It will be rejected from Complio if you don't, and you'll then need the Quantiferon Gold blood test (can be $$ and a speed bump when you are eager to register). Buy your books from the Lippincott rep that visits during bootcamp (if he still attends!) You will get your discount right away rather than waiting for the mail-in rebate from the bookstore.Again, congratulations, and let me know if you have any questions. I'd be happy to help. ?

RCC Nursing Fall 2019
Hey guys! I have a couple pairs of uniform pants (size XS & S) to sell! They are both in near-perfect condition. I also have one uniform top (size S and never worn) to sell or trade if you happen to have an XS. Let me know! $25 a piece. My loss is your gain ? (I'm sorry I couldn't have posted this sooner! I actually kind of forgot they were in my closet)

RCC Nursing Fall 2019
Hello everyone! I know Bigs & Littles will be released soon, but I wanted to offer a hand with any questions or whatever you guys have -- though I'm not sure how well I can answer it all since they've changed the curriculum with you guys! I am starting 2nd semester. MamaTiny definitely helped ease some of my concerns before school started!

So it looks like you all are still waiting for decisions to be sent out! I went through it twice, so I know how you feel! Keep yourselves as preoccupied as possible. Reviewing A&P is a good idea! I'm almost 3/4 of the way done with first semester, so if I can help any of you out with questions you might have once decisions are sent out, please ask! **Of course, the curriculum is changing, so I can't help much with the CEP aspect. Best of luck everyone!

RCC Spring 2019
I feel like it's been such a fiasco getting my stuff done, lol! I'm getting my 2nd MMR today, and hopefully will be cleared to register by the weekend. Since we didn't get our IDs last week, I wonder how they are going to fit it into the bootcamp schedule? Imagine how long it would take to do the 100+ students, or however many there are of us..

RCC Spring 2019
I tried finding my immunization records this summer to no avail. I am out of state through the 31st, so I decided to get started on everything here because I was feeling paranoid. I'm glad I did, because I ended up needing to re-do my MMR! I'm also not able to get my physical cleared because the provider I went to just recently opened their clinic and they don't have a stamp available. D: For the drug screen and BLS I'm just going to wait until I get home. I have already been to this clinic 3x this week (4 if the polio titer result comes in today) and feel terrible having my SO's family chauffeur me around. I would strongly suggest you get the titers done asap. I guess it's a common thing to happen with the MMR, from what I was reading.

ADN programs no recency req.?
Riverside Community College has no recency requirement. Located in Southern California, and it is point-based, with a portion going to lottery seats.

How is everyone getting along with their complio requirements?

RCC Spring 2019
Thank you for the info!! Hopefully I can pick a clinical site closer to me, since I'll be commuting from the high desert! I should have almost everything submitted before the end of the year. Wow the uniforms are pricey! Although, there's not much we can do about that I so admire all the parents/spouses that go through school! I don't have any kids, nor am I married, and I plan on quitting my FT job soon, so I should be OK with that. I do live with my boyfriend, but he's also in school for an ELM-NP, so if anything, it helps! Now it's his turn to take up dinner and laundry

RCC Spring 2019
I'm on vacation right now in another state, so I was feeling pretty paranoid about immunizations! I tried finding them this summer, and never made the appointment to get titers done beforehand (should have). So I'm getting them done away from home! Lol. Just got my tdap and 1st part of TB test. I am currently under the impression RCC breaks up this class into cohort groups? Is that right? 80 students in one cohort seems like a lot compared to most other schools in the area. Also, how flexible are they with the uniform policy on shoes? I'm hoping they'll have some examples at intake day. And watches? I know they need the secondhand, but is that all? Also, when do they release the textbook lists? More time to search=more $ saved and time to start reading, hopefully! And last question- What do you wish you knew prior to the start of your first semester? Mostly I'm telling myself to calm down and enjoy my vacation, because all of these questions will be addressed soon. But, I'm sure I'm not the only one feeling like this!
