Vet tech calling herself RN
This is illegal and not a good representation of the vet who is responsible for all who work in his/her office. If the tech is calling herself an RN (illegal) then is the vet a Chef? HMMMM:uhoh3:

Fundal Pressure
In the location of where I am there are many docs and midwifes who do and I am not going to perform it. I read posts on another site that docs were saying they use it and don't understand the big deal. I do understand now and I will not perform it as I am not trained and do not believe it to beneficial to the patient. I appreciate your comment. Thank you

Major disagreement with my preceptor...
The first thing you should NOT say is anything personally attacking the other nurse. This is a delicate situation in which everyone knows the problem but no one will solve it. You need to be honest relay the FACTS about your day and remain calm. If she talks about you behind your back let her. You know that she is considered non credible by the other nurses and staff and that they know the situation. This nurse has personal/personality problems and should be counseled quickly and quietly. Another thing to remember is that you should NEVER have to withstand Verbal or emotional abuse by ANYONE including MDs. You did the right thing by talking about your situation with the educator and by Not yelling back to the other nurse. If you know you did the best you can that day then there is nothing to be nervous or ashamed of regardless of what she says. Another thing is "People will only make you feel inferior if you let them." ER I hope you have positive outcome from this and that you go into work with a smile knowing that you are NOT the person who was wrong. HUGS:)

Fundal Pressure
The midwife that is requesting it is from another country and she is saying that it helps a tired mom to expell the fetus faster. While I feel there are many other ways to help a tired mom we are a natural birthing center and do not have vacuum or forceps. I will make alternative suggestions in the future. From what I have read there are still many Docs using fundal pressure and resent the fact that nurses don't perform it without question. One line read said "it is just another way for nurses to feel smarter than us (doctors)" and then he went on about his 8 years versuses our 4, anyway. The fundal pressure question has been resolved in my mind for now. I will not do anything I am not trained formally to do and I will always be an advocate for my laboring patient because if I am not who is? I appreciate all your help with this question and I am sure with all my future experiences I will have a million more.

Fundal Pressure
Thank you for taking the time to help me solve this mystery. I think that the area is so gray and so very passionately defended on either side by both nurses and doctors. There really should be a formal study done on this topic. For now I will follow the advice of my NM and my BNE do not do anything I am uncomfortable with and do not perform any nursing action I have not been properly or formally trained in. Thank you again!

Fundal Pressure
Hello to all, I am a new nurse I graduated in May '05. I work in a birthing center and I am thrilled to be there. My original plan was to work Med-Surg for a year and then specialize but there was really no oportunity for that. I love my job and wonder how I got so lucky. My only problem is the controversy over Fundal Pressure and why or why not we should use it. I have been looking for information regarding this but there is very little credible information. Anyone have a suggetion or help on this. Thank you!
