KW does night and weekend again? When I contacted them back in July I was told they stopped doing that when they stopped offering their program online! That would be nice if they did tho!

Fun? Hah. I work this weekend. But I do intend to sleep in until I go to work. I've been running errands all week long and I'm just waiting for a time where I can actually get some shut eye!

i got that email back in june. i didn't know what they were talking about until someone said it said 2016-17. this is my first time applying and i've only been a student since the summer at lonestar so i guess it didn't really mean anything after all

Got to stalk my email for all of 30 min before I had to meet with my client for a couple of hours! Left my cellphone in the car because I didn't want to be distracted! Glad I didn't miss out on too much! Hope everyone had a wonderful and productive day! Oh and side note, totally got a 100 on my pharmacology math exam this morning that I studied for. And expecting an A on the second part of the exam we also had to take today. Celebrating with the BF and my besties later! Woo!

Yes!!! Speak it into existence!!! I found myself getting excited over every notification this morning that I was up earlier than usual (sister, mom, Jack in the box, imaginary childhood friend from 20 years ago haha and of course allnurses was sending all kinds of stuff lol.) Put my phone on silent, came to school early and studied for my pharmacology exam that's tomorrow, before I head to my lifespan class down the hall. Must. Be. Productive. If we are up anyway!

No experience. They train you to get your license (tech) that is good anywhere. That's one of the upsides. You get paid to take a class that others pay for to get a license that's accepted anywhere. You work at least 12 hour shifts. The pay wasn't all that great and you had to pay for part of your insurance, but it gives you the healthcare experience you need. It's literally one of the few places that offer this. Again, I don't know anyone who's recently worked there to get new info, but if you look at their past reviews (like on Glassdoor) it makes you want to run the other way. But if they're revamping and they are getting new leadership and treating their employees better, then I'll throw my hat in the ring!

I didn't mind the hours, apparently you can wrack up enough overtime for it to make up for the pay. I would be more concerned about how to work it out with school. But 3 days a week is very nurselike! Let me know! There's a DaVita like 5 min from my house that's hiring and Everytime I get fed up at my job, I always go to the DaVita website and contemplate appllyinh lol.

when you hear back from davita, let me know how you like your new position! i've considered applying with them but i haven't heard anything super great, recently, about them. BUT i haven't heard anything in the recent past so tell me if you love it! i know one of the things that stopped me was the decrease in pay coupled with the having to pay out of pocket for their insurance. other than that, i didn't mind the 12-14 hour shifts (i thought it would most prepare for nursing), but again, that's what i read/heard about the past. Hopefully they got their stuff together and you're able to balance their work with school! Good luck!

Just curious... How many are anxious / stressed about getting in? I know my score isn't as high as everyone else's so far that's posted, but I can't seem to make myself get as worked up. I mean, every email I get I obviously want it to be my acceptance, but I guess I feel like I did my best (took both a&p over the summer ahhhh) and I know I rocked my hesi and critical thinking. Like the closer we get I want to be more anxious but I see the anticipation and I get anxiety vibes and I just want us all to be peaceful. I'm chill. Maybe I get Cypress. Maybe I get Tomball. Maybe I get Kingwood. Maybe I don't. I've only been speaking Cypress into existence, but have been praying for whichever door leads me out of my current career and into my new one. I just wanted to pray for peace for everyone here during this nerve-wracking time we are in. You're greater than the score you bring to your school of choice. You don't have to obsess over boards from 10 years ago to see where you fall. Look forward, not back, but remain present. Our days of pure freedom are slipping away one by one. Enjoy them. We will get our acceptance letters soon enough!

go to your exam, but don't click on the "admission assessment report" but look to the left of it and there is a + symbol. click that and then you can view your individual scores. once you see your list, go to the right and click "view my results" it shows how you did compared to others. for example, i made a 96 on anatomy and the class average (came up, it was like a 67 or 72 at the time i took mine) to a now 75. it shows if you did at, above or below average, and it also gives you tools to help improve your score should you want to do it again.

i don't know for sure, but it seemed like not as many people applied this go round. i've listened and asked others who have been in my classes with me since the summer, and just from the ones i've spoken with, if one person is applying in the spring, then 2 are waiting for the fall. i know part of it had to do with distance, and other parts had to do with pre/co reqs. when i saw the number of people who failed the hesi at cyfair (you can compare yourself on elsevier) i figured that had a lot to do with those not applying for the spring as well. the scores are posted per campus so like cyfair and cypress center won't have the same results, but it gives you kind of an idea of how everyone else around you (not just during that day but a certain time frame) did on the hesi. i was actually surprised when i saw the results.

you have to get it before you physically start the program, just because it is only good for two years. i had initially scheduled mine for aug 31, but when i spoke with cyfair nursing, i was told to just wait until i got the acceptance letter and then schedule it. i cancelled my previous appointment and said i would just wait to go until i had my acceptance letter in hand. there was no question about if i was already in healthcare or anything like that. Houston CPR Training once we get our acceptance letters, i'll shoot for something in october, hopefully november. but the nurse who runs the program, her classes fill quickly! it's like 2.5 hours long if i'm not mistaken

nursing is a popular second career professional program. I'm one of the (I'm sure many) who are transferring in with a degree or two in hand. the only schools that show consideration to having bachelor's are the schools that give out bachelor's. coming to a cc we are all on even playing field, when it comes to that. they care about your gpa, your hesi scores, and how many of the coreqs you have finished (or will finish) by the start of the program. you can still get in having coreqs left over (medmicro, psych, fine arts, etc) but if your score is tied with someone else, that is what they will also consider. I spoke with an advisor prior to my summer classes starting (ap1&2) and the nursing dept at cyfair and they both say the same thing. because the program is intense, they want you to have as least distraction as possible (especially if you're working 40+ a week) so that you can pass the classes, stay on track with the program, graduate in a timely manner (something they also track), and pass the nclex. this is why, despite working 40 hrs, I take basically a full load. I still needed medmicro and pharmacology. And I chose to take lifespan now, because I didn't want to have to pay BSN prices for it later.

Let's play a game / have a discussion about where we see this nursing thing taking us, 1 year after the program, 5 years after the program, and 10 years after the program. We don't have to divulge personal info, but I feel like it would be a way for us to kind of share who we are, without giving out too much info on the web. I'll start... 1 year after the program, I hope to be working locally in acute care, building my skills with an employer who believes in self development. 5 years after the program, I would hope to have my BSN from previous employer. By this time I feel confident enough that I'm ready to relocate. Anywhere. Well anywhere where there's a high shortage of nurses. Maybe travel nurse for this particular state for their agency and help out where I was needed. In addition to relocation expenses and a sign on bonus, I would ask for MSN tuition assistance, some leeway to get back home a couple times a year, and agree to stay for 5 years. By this point, I would hope to not be in acute care, but working in a setting that reflects whatever my interest is and obtaining my MSN in that. 10 years post program I'd be advertising myself to relocate similarly again, but with a MSN in hand. I would have chosen my field of study, ask for similar as I did for my first relocate, and potentially ask for DSN. Maybe not. Who knows. I don't want to be working in a hospital anymore at this point. I would want a slower pace, better hours, etc. I'd like to focus on family at this point. I know I have a lot of unknowns but I've been looking at other states (even tho Texas is short and does offer some decent relocation benefits and bonuses) some of these out of state locations are giving you basically whatever just to get you to stay. I have a house, but I have no problem selling it. I like the idea of moving around for a bit.

I applied for it as well. Didn't make any sense not to as they have an LVN to RN program at Lonestar as well. Cover all bases, tho I'd much prefer to just get into the ADN program.

I just read an article on yahoo (I know, credible, right?) that talks about at Indiana University, nurses are now allowed to show off tattoos, piercings and wear "unnatural" hair coloring. Tattoos and piercings allowed for Indiana University nurses I, for one, am excited to see this. I realize that I am only a nursing student PROSPECT at this time. (application just closed on Friday) but when I looked over the handbook, the question of "when does my hair color dictate my ability to help save a life?" And "when has a piercing (aside from the bull ring, which can be pulled and I can understand being a huge safety issue) stopped me from doing my job?" have come to mind. These are questions that I have asked my current employer over and over (I work in law enforcement currently) but wanted to know what it is actually like in the nursing workplace. I know we turn away otherwise competent employee prospects for this very reason. Nursing school, I will have no choice but to hide these things. Wear a wig even if I want to color my hair. But what about once you get into the real world? Is it common practice to still have to hide these things? To turn away otherwise competent employees for the sake of not liking the "way they look?" I'm just curious. Not complaining. I've been having to "conform" for awhile now, just wanted to see what it's like in the real world of nursing.

Something about Lonestar wanting to shift to be on par with the brand name universities and high end programs and having similar standards from here on out. It's all about those NCLEX scores lol, they're trying to weed out the slackers I suppose!

I know cyfair includes summer classes, when I spoke with the nursing department, I was told you finish under 2 years, typically 1.5 years. After you're accepted of course not including prereqs. And that's about the end of my knowledge lol. I did get to ask a graduate how it was and I basically got the same, kiss your life goodbye this is an all the time thing. Not that the program was hard but that it was demanding. Which, is why I chose to take pharm and medmicro now (req @ Lonestar) and lifespan (req for BSN and other CC's) to lighten the load. I would have taken everything I could so I can have more time for those classes come spring. Also fun fact I learned is that ummm below 75 is failing in NS in if not all, then most classes. Not that I planned to start becoming a C student, but it's just something I found interesting. I'd read other's who've gone thru the trenches advice on how not to stress for an A in NS because once you get in the real world, it's all going to be different anyway. And then my pharm professor hit us with the nothing below 75 (so get 75.1 lol) to remain in the program.

I haven't taken the person who's name is redacted. currently i'm taking C from NH who also has an online as well, who allows us to just work online and come in person for exams. sorry I couldn't help on that end. however, what i wanted to say is that there are other classes that are in the nursing program that you can pull down as well. Currently i'm taking medical microbiology (dunno if they have a late start for that one) and also lifespan, which lone star doesn't require but other CC's do and you will need it for your BSN. if you haven't taken those, i would look into those as well. might was well pull these classes down while you can. pharm for one is one i would have hated to take in nursing school. medmicro, not so bad, but it's definitely easier having it now. also a&p ii as well.

I turned my application in weeks ago and no one mentioned anything about submitting paper as well. In fact, in the instructions, I think they mentioned it being it only being an electronic application. If I'm not mistaken, this happened with the change from the pre-req scoring system. I did everything under CF nursing department advice and never once was told to also send in a paper version.
