I feel so dumb because during an interview, my answer to the question "what is a weakness of yours" was communication like a dummy. Communication is not really a weakness I mean I was an ICU nurse so you have to be good at communicating. Ugh I hope I didn't mess it up, I need a job so badly right now and all of my nursing interviews have been so in depth and I suck at interviews. As a manager how would you react to that answer? my exact answer: I am good at communicating, but it can also be a weakness, I am good at communicating with doctors and my coworkers, but I feel I could always improve my communication further.

Is is a HIPAA violation to tell a patient you have a mutual friend or you know someone that they know. Like if you're just having small talk and you end up being from the same town and know a bunch of the same people, even family?

LOL I know y’all don’t do baths I was kind of just giving an example of some of the small things we keep up with as ICU nurses, but I know I didn’t word it that way. But thanks for your response that’s why I would rather do ER because I would if I just brought someone back from the dead I don’t want nobody asking me about I/O or freaking baths which has happened before… I work with cancer patients also so our floor is very strict about it and it’s irritating because we don’t even have pct’s so I’m responsible for literally every little thing. Hey everyone. I am thinking about transferring to an ER when I get my year in of ICU. One of the main reasons why I want to transfer is because I am more into just doing the skills to get the patient going and keep them alive over trying to keep the patient alive on top of having to chart 10 million things every hour. How is the charting in the ER do you have to chart baths? Are your patients ever on strict I/O? Like what are your biggest priorities when it comes to charting and tasks in the ER? TIA:)

Thanks so much for your input. I think it is the unit and the fact that I went from working PRN on days to working full time on night shift when I really didn’t want to do night shift and the fact that I have to watch patients intensively during a time that I am usually asleep. I talked to my manager and he offered for me to go to day shift on another floor, but I don’t think it would be smart to leave so early I’m going to wait it out a 3 more months and see how I feel then, because in it will March will be 6 months.

Hello, I am a “new grad” ICU nurse on night shift. I have been at my hospital for 3 years I was a pct, LPN, then RN. I am making this post because I started my new job in September on night shift and I am highly regretting it. I truly think I want to quit but I am in a residency so I don’t think quitting is an option until after a year. Yes I am on the list for days but on my unit we have 18 nurses on day a shift compared to 9 on night shift so I know it will be over a year until I can go to days. Sleeping is not a problem for me it’s the way I feel when I leave work, I honestly feel like I am developing depression… I dread going to work, and when I get there I am very grumpy compared to day shift. It also doesn’t help that I work on an oncology ICU which is also Very depressing. I just want to know if there is anyone that can relate with what I’m going through and can give some advice.

We are at the Hanceville campus, we only have 2 campuses Hanceville and oneota I don’t think it’s the same school.

Not sure about that. You would have to ask someone in advising. The oldest classes that i have are 4 years old

I applied to Bevill for this spring semester too but I didn’t get in because somehow they didn’t receive my transcripts but Wallace did. But I don’t care really because I didn’t want to go there.

Yes I definitely think it’s worth the drive, the teachers seem so much more caring and helpful than what I experienced at Jeff state. I wish I would’ve just applied to Wallace from the beginning but I knew I could get in to both at the time, & jeff state was closer so that’s why I chose Jeff state over Wallace. Also Wallace’s app is so complicated I didn’t want to do it?.

Ohh ok, i knew it had to be something other than not enough people applying because they basically extended it a whole month. Have you applied to the program before?

Yes me too! I wish they would send it by email also, cause I’m not at home all the time, & I don’t want anyone else to get to that letter before me.

Ohhh I’m glad you got it up! I called them again today & they said they will be sending out the letters sometime this week. i think they’re just telling us stuff to get us off the phone?

But I turned the letter in before the deadline so I’m praying they accepted it. Especially since they extended the deadline

It is ! I have 31 points:( so I am very scared because I want to get In so bad. I could possibly have 33 points because they told me I could turn in a letter saying I’m a patient care tech to use as my certification for 2 points, but I found that out after I turned in my verification packet, so they said they don’t know if they’ll accept it because I turned it in separately but I didn’t know you could get a letter because it’s wasnt listed on the application. & I don’t get the 7 points.

Ohh ok well I guess there won’t be a letter in the mail today lol. How many points do you have?

Ok that’s really low for the fall so hopefully the cut off for the spring will be even lower lol. So do you think they’ll update us on their Facebook page when they send the letters out? I don’t go to Wallace or know anyone at Wallace really so that’s how I’ve been keeping up with everything. But they haven’t posted in a while.

Ohh ok this is my first time applying to Wallace but I’ve been in the nursing program before at Jeff state, so I don’t get the extra points?. & yeah I was hoping they would send them early too, but I feel like they would have sent them by now if we were going to get them early. Someone told me the cut off would be lower than usual this time around, I’m hoping it was true, I heard the cut off last spring was 31 points, & for the fall was 34 points, but I’m not sure how true that was.
