  1. I know, I thought about going the traditional route. But the colleges make you take more classes and it would require me to not work. I'm trying to get out of the math classes. I need to work!
  2. Thanks Sugga, I'm beginning again. I stopped for a while. I live in Georgia. I became discouraged with our State not recorgnizing Excelsior College as an accredited College. Your words speaks volumes. Oh and congrats are in order for you keepin at it.
  3. Hi Mike, How is school going? I'm sure yo are very busy. I saw in your post that you have young children. I am doing the excelsior distance program. You pretty much teach yourself. I took NC1 Feb. 19th. I have had my NC1 books since 2003 and just took my first exam. You have to be very disciplined to earn your ADN this way. I wanted to acknowledge you post. Keep on trucking, male nurses can write their own ticket. Mary
  4. We got $12.00 to purchase a turkey and $20.00, making it a total of $32.00.
  5. Hello luv4nursing, I know this is an old post. However, some things that you wrote fell on my street. I too am doing the excelsior program by way of Rue. I enrolled in Rue a couple of years ago. I would study but not be consistent with it. I plan to finally take the NC1 at the end of October 2006. Everyone says that once you take and pass the first test, it motivates you. I certainly hope so. I too desire to work in a hospital. But like you mentioned, most hospitals don't wish to hire LPNs. How far are you with your nursing concepts? I am a school nurse. You are aware that Excelsior is changing their requirments as far as credits and a 2 part clinicals. I'm praying and striving to be done by the 2009 deadline, before the changes go into affect. Will you share your studing habits and what keep you motivated?

Hello Mamajama, I saw your response to being a school nurse. I enjoy it too. I have been a school nurse since 2000. Sometimes I tell myself that I will quit and find another job. But each year I return for another school year. I love the hours and the summers off. I'm not on the site too much. I'm doing the Excelsior RN program. I've been an LPN since 1982. What are some of your challenges as being a school nurse? How many schools do you serve? What is your student to nurse ratio? Are you a member of NASN? I love Joel Osteen!

It just goes to show the difference of State requirements. I live in Georgia and LPNs do the same as two and four year RNs. The RNs were designed to be Lead Nurses, however that fell by the wayside. RNs can take the state certification after three years experence as a school nurse. I have a BS in another field and cannot sit for the state certification. I will be able to soon.
  8. You read in the papers where LPNs are slowly being phased out of certain healthcare facilities. I currently work full time as a school nurse. I am limited as upward mobility goes. I have a B.A. in an unrelated field. My thinking is when I acheive an RN status the two degrees compiled can open career doors for me. I supplement my school income by working PRN @ at a LTC facility. The RNs earn the big bucks. We work our tails off and get no respect for it.

I too am a LPN in Georgia. Go to the County's Board od Education and inquire of current Nursing positions. you can also go to their website. We are under Student Services. Now the pay varies from County to County. Good Luck!!!!!!!!
  10. Hi Nursesherry, Don't beat youself up. I too signed up with Rue two years ago and have not taken my firsy test. I have been carrying my nursin concept book around and it is worn. I plan to make 2006 the year that I reall focus on completing the courses and testing out. A girl whom I know who has been a LPN for better than 10 years. She just passed her clinicals and now waiting to get the OK to sit for her RN boards. She had some ups and downs along the way. But she stuck it out. We must believe that we can do anything that we set our minds to. Besides we have already paid for the materials. Let's just do it!!!!!!!!!
  11. Hi, I'm Mary. I have been a LPN since 1983. I currently am a school nurse. I work for two elementary schools. I spend one half of my day @ one school and the other half at school # 2. I signed up with Rue Educational Systems better than 2 years ago. I have not studied the modules as I should. I'll start off studying well and somehow not study for a couple of months. I forget the objectivies and find myself restudying concepts that I have already covered. My thinking that becoming associated with a network of nurses could be beneficial in my pursuit of accomplishing my dream of becoming a RN.
