Failed last semester and it hurts
I am an older student, mother of two (one welcomed in the middle of nursing school), suffer from a harsh home life, was a single mom for a very long time, and suffer from bad anxiety and OCD....I never gave up on my dream and ive made serious sacrifices instead of excuses! It aggrivates me to no end when I hear students wanting to fight a grade bc they failed or making excuses. My struggle has been real! And I just want to thank you and the previous posters for keeping it real!! The truth is the thruth and as nurses, it is our moral duty to not sugar coat the truth!

Failed last semester and it hurts
I am sorry, but I have to agree with a lot of posts I just read. I am a single parent, grew up in a unstable household, have one child and welcomed another during nursing school, worked long hours as a bartender to support my family and I have never failed a class. Nursing school is not for everyone, no matter how passionate you are about the field. It takes quick thinking and understanding in order to make sure people get the best care possible and DONT DIE! My school also has timed tests and I would assume all nursing schools do bc according to my school, we have a certain amount of time to answer questions bc thats have the NCLEX is. It may not be the outcome you wanted, but trying to fight the grade is just looking for a quick resolve while making excuses for yourself.

Thinking about quitting nursing school..
I don't really have an exact answer for you, but maybe nursing might not be for you. I hate to say that because I've had it said to me and I knew it wasn't true, but if you are only in your second year and it's already difficult, its only going to get harder. I have a best friend whos in the same program as me and she sounds like you. She studies forever and memorizes stuff, but isnt grasping the concept. For me, the application comes easy. If you like helping people, maybe something like physical therapy, respiratory therapy, sonogram tech? if you like the medical field. If it makes you feel horrible, maybe try to teach yourself. Do you get the powerpoints before class? I print them out and fill in the info prior to class and then add to it during lecture. A lot of nursing school is self-discipline. You need to learn how to manage time and teach yourself.

Care Plan Help- Priority/Infection
My alternative to disturbed body image was anxiety í ½í¸Š, bc i was torn between the two. When I showed my instructor, she told me to put actual infection as #1. Ive looked through every book and thought the same as you mention...that its the medical diagnosis. I think I might just make it anxiety, bc the actual infection doesnt make sense to me. My pt was beyond awesome! I didnt know what to expect at first, but she was probably one of my best out of every clinical experience. This kid was a trooper and her family was great!

Care Plan Help- Priority/Infection
She didn't want to get up out of bed and leave the room b/c of her eye, so I thought that diagnosis might have been the best fit for the scenerio.

Discharging Patient With Opioid in Hand?
Unless there was a pt Hx logged or there was a need for suspicion, I would do the same! Too many people are judgemental. We are here to help and not judge.

Accidental Pregnancy
Speaking from experience....I had my first when I was 19, not too far out of HS. I was very against abortion and I suffered a miscarriage a few months prior and could not handle another loss. I knew it was going to be difficult, but the thought of having an abortion was just unbareable! I went to college, had difficulty finding sitters, took a break, went back when my daughter started kindergarten....then, as life has it, I got may associates from community college and applied to a top rated 4-year nursing college, got accepted and found out I was pregnant with my second during sophmore year. Again, I was faced with a swarm of uncertainties and fear. I thought my life was over, cried A LOT, but knew I could never face myself if I ended the pregnancy. My bf was a HUGE support and so was my family. I took a semester off from nursing classes, and breastfed my daughter for 18 months. I was able to pump at clinical to have the milk for her when I went back. Long story short, if you want it bad enough or feel strongly enough about it, you WILL work it out!! Life may not be perfect and honestly, it might never be. Don't make your decisions based on what society says is right. It doesnt matter how old you are or if you are married, someone is always going to have something to say about your age or how many children you choose to have. DO WHAT FEELS RIGHT TO YOU!! and I promise, the struggle may be real, you may sometimes wish things didn't happen the way they did, but you will NEVER regret your child!

Care Plan Help- Priority/Infection
Need help with a care plan for pediatrics. My pt was a 10 y/o 1 day-post for ethmoidectomy, initial dx cellulitis of the l.orbit with secondary sinusitis. The surgery was successful, swelling reduced by mid-day, normal vitals and no complaints of pain. I wrote up my care plan as #1 disturbed body image and #2 disturbed visual sensory perception. My pts main complaint was that she did not want to get out of bed bc she was nervous about opening her eye and hurting it more. She asked for an eye-patch to help, but we could not provide it since we wanted to encourage the opening of the eye. And, of course, wanted it open to the air to help with the infection. My second thought was to put anxiety as #1 and disturbed visual sensory perception as #2. My question is...my instructor said my #1 dx should be actual infection, but I can only find risk for infection. Should I keep my original care plan, should I change it to anxiety and disturbed sensory perception, or am I missing something??
