Sedation
Wow...just...wow. A CRNA deciding my patient needs sedation...for a procedure I am performing. I think not. I know not. If a CRNA is deciding to sedate my patient, prior to a procedure I am performing with the support of your place of employment...there are much more serious issues to be addressed. Wow.

Is it me, or am I being given unrealistic assignments in the NICU?
Absolutely agree...busy but def. doable. I swear sometimes our best asset comes down to strategic planning on many days!..We should not be feeding these infants by nipple for more than 30 minutes no matter how much time we have. It's ends up exhausting, stressful and frustrating for the baby...and on staff as well!

NICU interview, advice needed!
Oh kris I am so sorry I didn't catch this earlier! I'm sure you did great. I am a 58 year old retired NICU nurse. I was in the unit for OVER 20 years which is a long time in a specialty with a high burn out rate. You sound just like me over 20 years ago. I loved every second i was in that unit and I knew, absolutely knew it was where I belonged. I would love to hear how you knocked the interview out of the park! Hopefully I can be one of the first to congratulate you on your new career. I promise you will always be thinking, never be bored, always be learning....and the families...if you love teaching and working with families this is for you. When I first started we did not have an MD on site 24 hours....senior nurses were certified in needle chest aspiration, intubation, UAC/UVC placement. Every high risk delivery was new and exciting. We had to transport infants from neighboring communities into the unit for care. Air and ground transport with a respiratory therapist. kris you have the nursing world by the nuts....go for it kiddo. You will never regret it Again I would love to hear from you! Sharon [email protected]
