ICU experience for a Maryland nurse
Hello all, I am interested in applying to CRNA school in 2 years. I currently am studying for CCRN and have been ER/ICU for 4 years. However, I'm currently in the Adult ED full time. I live in Maryland and was curious if anyone knew if schools accept shock trauma TRU or CCRU as critical care experience or critical care transport nursing. Those areas are where I'm most interested in, but completely willing to move back into ICU if those are not accepted. I also plan on reaching out to the 4 schools I plan on applying to Thank you in advance.

"I am a nurse!"
I was the unlucky family member who was put in the position of assisting with care because when my dad got sick the hospitals he went to were EDs that i knew majority of the nurses in from doing EMS. A whole bunch knew I was also a nurse so they asked me to help with his care, which I didnt mind but my dad always says "my daughter is an ED nurse" and it makes me uncomfortable. When i have family that say "im in the medical field" "im a nurse too" I ask them about their area and gauge their level of understanding. I've found that its all about finding common ground. You may need that family member on your side to reassure family or the patient. I try to see them as an asset and not a pain in my butt and for the most part it works. :)

ED to ICU
Hello all! I am a current ED nurse for 2 years with an additional 10 months experience as a tele obs RN prior to ED. I am looking to step into an ICU role for the increased knowledge to someday go into trauma or transport nursing (which require ICU experience). I had attempted to work in ICU previously but ended up resigning after being miserable at work everyday. Have any other ED nurses made the move to ICU? What was your experience and do you have any tips? The drips and technology fascinate me but I love an ED pace. I have looked into trauma ICU but many require prior ICU experience. Thank you

Trauma and ED nursing
Im trying to! They only take ICU experience and i havent been able to stomach ICU long enough to stay 3 to 5 years. I really like the concepts of ICU and picked up on it quickly when i worked in ICU but i felt like nothing i was doing made a difference.

Trauma and ED nursing
Hey all! Im currently an ER nurse coming up on 2 years in ED. My current hospital is not a trauma center and other than stroke has no other specialties. I love my job but really want the specialities and increased trauma. I have looked around my home state (Maryland) and the only real opportunities exist in level 2 and level 3 trauma centers. So I'm asking, what's the difference in what you see and is there a large difference in a general ED and a hospital with a trauma center?
