  1. When a co-worker says "I'd want you to be my (or family members) nurse if I'm ever in the hospital". Knowing what it takes to be a nurse, its so flattering to know they respect all aspects of my job and notice my passion!!
  2. I have had this happen to me for someone who COULD wipe his own butt!! There is something about being in the hospital that makes people feel its okay to become deconditioned. Or I have had a patient who was young and admitted for PNA who was having bowel accidents in the chair and not letting staff know he needed to be cleaned! With all respect, I do not mind doing anything to help a patient who genuinely needs the help!!.. but I have had people who were in the hospital for minor issues and then bend over a bed asking to have their butts wiped! (all completely irrelevant to why they are there in the first place). My response to those people is always "oh, how do you do this at home?" to get them thinking of what would they normally do. It normally helps them identify their own abilities and strengths, enforces independence (within a safe limitation) and all without offending them!
  3. Hi everyone. I am a RN with my BSN in New Jersey. I am looking into getting my certification for Botox injection administration. My question is about starting a medical spa business... Is a MD required for this type of business or can it be run by nurses who are certified?
  4. Any job in the icu is great experience. While you might think a clerk doesn't learn much, it's up to you to pay attention. You will hear when nurses need cxr and for what. It all depends on your involvement. I had a great friend who was a clerk and if she was bored she'd help with simple assistance such as giving a boost to a patient with me. Simple things like remembering to pause tube feeds before laying the patient flat became second nature to her. You will gain the experience in learning the Doctors, routines and lingo. Also the more friendly with staff you become, the more they are willing to teach you and give you the "low down". Best of luck!
  5. In order to take the CCRN you must have 2 years experience. I wouldn't start studying until closer to those two years. You need to become comfortable with medications, abgs/vents, and cardiac. I used the Evolve Elsevier book and online questions to study. I found them incredibly helpful. Hope this helps! Best of luck!
  6. Hello fellow nurses! I have recently decided to go back to school for my NP. I registered for FNP as I take my first few courses but I am torn as to which track to genuinely follow. I don't know if this is true but maybe you all can help me. I was told: Family NP can only work in outpatient Acute Care NP can only work in inpatient My issue is that I believe I am interested in going into plastics. The one doctor I am interested does facial trauma (in the hospital) but also does cosmetic plastics (in his office). Anyone know what kind of NP track or program that I would need to be an NP for plastics like this?
