  1. How were the first two classes? 6003n and 6050
  2. I will be starting soon as well... March 1st
  3. I guess it depends on where you live. I live down south and psych facilities came to my college to recruit new grads... I love psych as well and hope you land the job of your dreams. It's such a rewarding field.
  4. You sound marketable to me! Keep pushing!!

I'm sorry you're having a hard time. Did you have to go through any type of training prior to starting this position? Psych can be challenging however, you either love it or you hate it.
  6. In my state a lot of new grads are recruited to work in corrections. Your experience will depend on where you work. Depending on where you work there may be an MD on site and at other times an MD on call. There will also be a charge nurse/head nurse available should you have any questions although depending on your shift you may be the only nurse on site when the facility is short so contact will be via phone. If you decide to come to correctional nursing, spend your days off looking up things you're not so confident in skills wise. Also print a copy of the standing orders so that you can read those on your days off to familiarize yourself with what to do in certain situations. Don 't be discouraged to begin your career in corrections because everyone does not desire to be a nurse that works in the hospital etc... There is most definitely a need for nurses in corrections.
  7. Welcome to correctional nursing. One of my jobs is in correctional nursing. I work in the crisis stabilization unit and it is quite rewarding and educational. Lots of autonomy in correctional nursing and a slow enough pace at times to learn a lot and research interventions before you implement them. It is not as bad as some may make it seem however, I had an advantage before entering the field. I was a correctional officer/supervisor for 8 years prior to going to nursing school.
