hi crafts! the nurse pharmacology program is a new thing for TMC. currently the only ones making their rounds in the units are pharmacologists. i think you guys will be starting in june. we were told about this last week. i guess you will be checking the doctor's order sheet, the kardex, the med sheet and making sure these drugs are given correctly. bec there are still a lot of things that current nurses do not know in terms of preparation that only pharmacologists are keen on. like which solution can be mixed w a certain drug, what not to give together w a particular one...etc. so for your interview, obviously you have to brush up on pharmacology. good luck!

What is a typical nursing salary in the Philippines?
i agree - our salary is definitely not ABOVE minimum wage. HE-LLOOOO!i would say it's minimum wage. i get 10 a month. and ive been working for 3 years. 10 all in. 12,000 minus tax. but who's complaining right? at least i have a job - the new nurses are having such a hard time getting a job.

hi julieane! it depends on who will interview you. one of the clinical instructors will be interviewing you. mostly med surgical questions. they will choose a disease, you explain the patho physio - labs to looks for, meds to give. nursing interventions in giving these meds. and of course they will also ask questions that will give them an idea of how dedicated you are. some new nurses go AWOL after just one week. or 2 weeks. so they want to make sure you've got it in you. good luck! but i think im too late - i saw about 6 nurses outside the NSO waiting to be interviewed. were you one of them?

to all those waiting for a call from the medical city, i suggest while waiting, apply in a hospital near you, if you live in the province, apply in a tertiary hospital, you will get VALUABLE experience there. for the simple reason, the nurses do everything. before i entered medical city , i worked for 6 months in a hospital in the province, and i learned all the basics there. i did not have a hard time adjusting at all. in TMC they won't make you insert NGT's or foley caths or do ABG's. the interns do that. when there's a code, a code team arrives. in the province, it's just you, the resident and the head nurse. so you learn more. trust me. i have assisted in more codes in the province compared to here.

after the HR dept interviews you, someone from NSO will interview you also. then you will train for a month. then it's back to the waiting game. as i said, there was no waiting back in 2006, you work right after you train. on the last day of your training, they make you sign a contract. but now, after training, some have to wait for 6 months or more. it's a sad situation really. you have to be patient.

St. Luke's, Capitol Med, PHC, Medical City
it's best to apply in a jcia accredited hospital, medical city and st lukes. the US hospitals appreciate this...that being said, has anyone heard about the new visa bulletin? they moved the priority date from 2005 to 2003....looks like we are all here for the long haul. i have been waiting for 3 years and honestly, leaving for the states seems to be like a far fetched dream already. the bad news does not surprise me anymore. and i do not listen to the news that "next month retro will be lifted" ive heard it a million times for 3 years....it's like the boy who cried wolf already.

to super extraordinary: yes TMC is still accepting applicants but the turn over isn't as fast as before. when i applied, they trained me in august for a month, then i started working the day after training, sept. 1. that's because retrogression wasn't in progress back in 2006, so the hospital was losing nurses by the day. they were hiring nurses left and right. right now, since there is a lull, there is a surplus of nurses, they train, then the trainees wait for 6 months or more before they get hired. the ones that get hired right away are the ones who know someone inside. a doctor who puts in a good word, someone in the board...you know how it is....but keep trying.

medical city pays 10,000 per month as starting salary. i have been a nurse there for more than 2 years and i get 12000 a month, minus taxes, it comes out to 10 a month. as for benefits, you get 10,000 worth of free medicines a year, plus 120,000 a year for hospitalizations, check ups, tests, etc.

question abt working experience...
hello hael! it wnt be amazing until i pass both exams. hahaha. i applied for the NCLEX CA. i dont think i can stand the cold in the east coast. i dnt have the results to both exams yet. apparently CA does not participate in the quick results program (some states post the results after 2 days w a fee of around 7.95$) so i have to wait. yes i applied for both exams at the same time, im tired of reviewing. by stupid BON i meant the philippine BON and all their crazy questions for the local boards. they dont make sense anymore. did you take the CGFNS, NCLEX?
