  1. Was there any diseases on the hesi? I'm taking it in a week and scared. Any more useful tips?
  2. wait what? Is this news confirmed by the nursing department?
  3. The average wait time is like a year I think. For me I'll probably get in Spring of 2019 so it will be 1 year and 3 months since I waited
  4. Thank you Brenda, I probably have to email Deborah to see if I'm on the email list since I didn't get it.
  5. I didn't get any email though
  6. Yea I applied in the Nov-Jan period also and I think that I will start around Spring of 2019 because it seems like there are more people applying lately. Also did you start on your immunizations yet? or do wait till you get a letter telling you that you will be starting the program soon before you start on them?
  7. I don't think you can, the next application period is in September
  8. Guys Catherine just responded to me and told me to talk to Deborah again........ I'm gonna lose all my brain cells at this rate
  9. I don't think that there are that many people from the military or other prioritized sources that apply to the nursing program every quarter. Honestly, I think we might all start later than expected if things continue as they are.
  10. I just emailed her right now, she will probably respond on Monday. I will update you guys on what she says. This has been a very frustrating experience hopefully it will get better.
  11. I called the person in charge of the applications in early March and she told me that we would get our letter at the end of March but now it's almost the deadline for Spring applications and she still hasn't finished with winter applications...... smh
  12. They do not look at highschool GPA. Process is: you take your pre reqs at a community college or at a university which takes around 2 years then you apply to nursing school. You will then need to take the Hesi or Teas usually which is like an entrance exam also some schools will require essay questions. I had a 2.1 GPA in highschool and just went to a community college to do my pre reqs and now 3 years later I got accepted into a nursing program. You can do it, goodluck!
  13. The sjsu nursing program is super impacted. There is De Anza college that has an ADN program which is located in Cupertino. It does not a lottery style system instead it has a waitlist system, the average wait time to get in once your accepted is 3-4 quarters. Also since your worried about getting in, you don't have to worry about it for this program as long as you meet the requirements you can get in.
  14. I used the pocket prep app for vocab, it's the purple one in the app store which is around $15. I also used quizlet to help me
  15. I recently applied to the nursing program during the November to January period and haven't heard anything back yet. Has anyone gotten any news?[h=1][/h]
  16. I am an introvert and talking to strangers was difficult for me for the longest time. But taking a speech class helped and just by talking to strangers on a regular basis really helped build my confidence. Being scared to talk to strangers will hold you back, sometimes you just need to have a "I don't give a crap" mentality and just go for it. Hope you the best of luck!
  17. To be honest I don't think you will get in. For my ADN program they are VERY strict about the 75 or higher requirement. Your school might give you a third try to take the exam but I think you need to send in an appeal or something and they don't always grant it.
  18. Well my ADN program at my community college is only $5000 so it's not that bad, maybe yours will be around the same price range.
  19. I also live in the Bay Area and have questioned myself if I am smart enough to get into nursing school. I have 3.2 GPA overall with 3.1 GPA in my science classes and we all know you need to get at least above a 3.5 GPA to be competitive in California. If you are interested in an ADN program, there is one at De Anza College located in Cupertino. To get in, you need a 75 or higher on the Hesi & Chancellor's formula. But you need to finish all the prereqs that are required. Unlike other programs that function on a point system, this program functions on a wait list system meaning as long as you meet all the requirements you are accepted into the program. However, you do need to wait up to a year or a year and a half to start the program. Which is good compared to other ADN programs where it is based on a lottery system that can make you wait 3-5 years to start the program. I just applied to this program a few weeks ago, the next application period is this February if you are interested. I hope this helps :)
  20. oh that sucks, my program just requires you to get a 75 or higher on the Hesi and the chancellor's formula and then your admitted. None of these points based systems stuff. I am honestly so grateful for this because my GPA is a 3.2 and my Hesi score is an 88 which to be honest will not even be competitive for the BSN programs in California. :)
  21. I just found the test to be similar to the pocket prep not too hard and not too easy. I'm just say the pocket prep does help though. Goodluck!
  22. Are the ADN programs in Socal all have lottery systems? Because this ADN program that I applied to, has a waitlist system so people can get into the program in a year or a year and a half. Instead of having people wait 3-5 years for the loterry system to pick them.
  23. @Annie Why don't you look into some ADN programs also? BSN programs are hard to get into mostly in Cali
  24. For the Hesi's A&P section you need at least an A&P 1 class under your belt. For math, you need to be at least good with algebra, the exam has a lot of ratios and converting fractions into decimals or percentages. For Biology, they cover the basics of a biology course such as mitosis vs meiosis. Reading comp. is pretty start forward, just re-read each passage to make sure you don't miss any information. Vocab can be learned in a week or less, there are quizlet study guides for it. Grammar part is basic, just review basic grammar rules from the Hesi review book. You should give yourself at least a month to study for the Hesi. If you still have a lot of prereqs to do, then don't take the Hesi until your almost done with your prereqs.
  25. I suggest you talk to your school's nursing admissions office. For my school's ADN program, you can fail 3 times and take it again at another school and when you summit your transcript write a note that you want the admission people to look at your A&P that you took at the other school instead. But this is like an unwritten rule at my school kinda like a loop hole so your school may be the same, just ask just in case.
