For what it’s worth, I just want to say that I had to wear a mask for the first time during a 12h shift. And it realllyyy wasnt that bad. I just got panicky when I heard that about NCLEX. Never having done it before, I jumped to the conclusion it would be unbearable. Not unlike me to jump to worst possible scenarios - I know I need to chill.

Why can't they just space us further apart? Probably because they'd lose money doing so. No, I'm not sure I'm in the right profession. I understand what you are saying - but there are many different types of nursing jobs - some may/may not require a mask. Some people don't live in areas that are highly affected, and people deserve a fair chance to write a licensing exam without discomfort.

You all raise good points. I understand wearing a mask is a necessary precaution in large public spaces, or when physical distancing is not possible, in some cities. It is difficult to comprehend doing this where I live, where the incidence is very low. They can also just ensure we are the appropriate distance apart from each other. Perhaps I am selfish, but I do believe when it comes to a licensing exam, that the conditions should be neutral - not working against the applicant.

I'm really upset now that I found out we have to wear a mask while we write the NCLEX. I overheat easily and believe this is going to negatively impact my performance. How is this fair?! If they're that worried they should just postpone the exam. I wonder if any other professions (law, medicine, accounting..) are requiring their candidates to wear a mask during their licensing exam. I doubt it.

Bumping this old topic because I have the same problem! I never thought hearing the sounds could be as hard as it is sometimes, and it is so frustrating and upsetting to me when it seems like my peers just get it right away. THIS. The first thing I did that improved things for me SO much was to switch my earpieces. I believe the Littmann stethoscopes come with an extra pair in the box, a pair that is smaller than the ones on the stethoscope. Try the smaller ones. They really helped for me. Here are other things that help me: -Make sure room is quiet -Elevate the bed and the head of the bed -Make sure earbuds are in well (see above -Make sure nothing hanging on stethoscope -Ask patient to lie on left side -Begin at apex -Landmark the sternum and sternal borders Hope that helps. Hi there. First of all, I'm sorry you're going through this very difficult period. I too failed my first clinical rotation, and anxiety was a huge component of that. I had never failed anything in school before, so this was a huge disappointment to me and made me question whether or not I would continue. My school (it's a 4 year BScN) let me redo it, and I passed. That being said, the issues the other posters have raised are thought provoking and you (and I) should consider them. The thing is, I would give yourself one more chance. Not sure if that is possible with your program, but perhaps you, like me, were just not able to learn as quickly as they expect, due to your anxiety. I know for myself, repeated failures would be a much bigger sign that this is not the program for me than just 1 failure at the very beginning. Good luck
