Depends on the facility. All ER RNs should be ACLS certified and intubation is an ACLS skill. However, I work in a teaching hospital and usually, it is the resident who attempts and if unsuccessful, the attending physician intubates. We nurses just do all the other stuff.
I also work at Newark Beth Isreal Medical Center which is part of the system and started as a new grad through their intern program. That program made the transition from student to primary nurse very easy. I do suggest getting into an intern program wherever you decide to work.
