A newbie with a Kaplan question.
I took the nclex in feb and pass with 85 question. I also took kaplan and score about 60% on the practice tests. The kaplan test is HARDER then the actual test. The decision tree really, really works. Just remember that the nclex world is different then the real world, and you will do fine.....Another tip is take your time...take your time...work through the questions..... P.S. regardless how many questions you get( 75 or 265) you will walk out feeling like you failed....It is normal....the next 2-4 days will be the longest days in your life............Good luck....

Nursing Shortage?
In any profession there will always be good ones and bad ones. As a whole I think a large amount of nurses are good, even great. Even though there is a nurse shortage MOST employers would want to hire good nurses. It doesn't mean that if you have a license that you will automately get hire....Nurses are here to help people through their work and compassion... FYI: If they are in the profession ONLY for the money you will be able to TELL really fast.... GUZZEBEAR

Orange County Nursing Programs
I went to SAC class 12/05. I LOVE the school. The teachers are all every supportive. I am currently working in the ER at UCLA and feel very well prepared. The program makes you love nursing and give you a great base. In my class we started with 36 students and 30 students from the orginal students graduated. We have a very high Nclex passing rate in the 90's. Regarding the waiting list...we have two list one is lottery and other list is on point system. (your grades A-4,B-3) I only had to wait one semester. I know the school received a grant form our govenor and will be able to accept 60 more students in the future. Call the school or go to our website http://www.sac.edu to get more info.... GOOD luck and I hope the info is helpful

Where have all the GOOD VEINS gone?
There are many great threads on IV start if you do a search....But here are some of the tricks I thought are really helpful. 1. I always look at both arms before I start. I tell my patient I only want to hurt once...so I have to look at all the veins. 2. I like the ones I can FEEL and see..but more feel. I got a hint on using the end of a pen to mark my spot if I a have loose skin...because once you clean the skin and keep the skin tight you can loose the vein. 3. We have warm blankets in the ER, so If I can't find anything....usuallly If I warm them up the veins come out....

Reflections on your completing your First Year as a nurse
#1. what has been the number 1 change in your life since you began your nursing career? i plan my life a month at a time due to scheduling.....having my pda everywhere i go... #2. are you still at the facility that you originally went to work? yes #3. what is 1 thing that you will never forget from this first year? when giving narcan to an overdose patient....to move out of the way.:chair:..i almost got punched in the face....i am only 5 ft tall. #4. on a scale of 1-10 (you know the rest of the saying), where would you put your confidence level now? 6 on good day.........3 on bad day!!! #5. what has been the silliest/dumbest thing that you have said or done this first year? to many to name...but here is one...grabbing the wrong equipment, (grabbing a 20fr instead of a 14 fr for a foley cath in a male. the face on his face was classic)

Question about ER from new nursing graduate
Hi...I graduated from nursing school 12/05 and went straight in to ER and LOVE it...I went throught the same debate myself. It depends who you ask regarding what kind of answer you will get. My advise is if you decide to go straight in to ER make sure the hospital is new grad FRIENDLY... You really have to make sure they are from their pass new grads and not from the nurse recuiter. My hospital has a 6month new grad program and very supportive. They put me through all the classes I need (ie. ACLS,PALs,EDAP, TNCC) I highly recommend doing your reseach on the hospital before accepting a position, because if you don't get the proper orientation and training it is your License and patients that is at risk.....Once you are a license RN you are a professional and have accountablity. P.S. Once you really know you want to be an ER nurse....you can't really do anything else.....I COULDN'T...GOOD luck...

I Didn"t Pass!
Hi..I am sorry you didn't pass but I hope I can share how I studied for the NCLEX. I took the test on 2/07/06 and passed with 80 questions. Like everybody I know that took the test, I thought the test was terrible. I was never really sure of my answers. But I was able elimate the wrong answers to get the right answer.. It took me about 3hrs to answer 80 questions. I use kaplan's approach to answer all my questions. The NCLEX is not a test on nursing knowlegde, it really is a test on critical thinking..( don't get me wrong you do need to know the basics, and if you graduated nursing school you have the knowlegde. You just have to trust that you know it and bring it out. You probably know the basic about the NCLEX hospital. It is not like the really world. You have all the time in the world and everything you need to take care of your patients. DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT read into the question...YOu have to know your normal lab values.... Take the time to work through the questions. THey give you 6 hrs. It is better to spend all the time you need on a question to get it right than rush through it and get it wrong. I highly recommend taking kaplan to study for your next test....I know it is expensive but it is worth every penny. If you calculate the loss in wages by not being able to work as a RN it actually saves you money. I really hope this helps!!! Good luck in the Future!!!
