  1. I started a group! The name is "MUSC ABSN Fall 2019" and the link is: Log into Facebook | Facebook (I looked at the other MUSC ABSN groups and they're all named based on the graduation date.)
  2. If I start a Facebook group, would ya'll join? :)
  3. Has anyone started a Facebook group for this cohort? I just visited MUSC yesterday (for the first time after my acceptance) and loved it!
  4. I just now checked my email and wanted to update ya'll. I received an email from MUSC that I was admitted!! The email says I should expect to receive an admissions package in the mail soon and must respond by April 13th. It seems like this might just be the preliminary round, so don't despair if you don't hear from them today too! At least this means they've finally made some decisions!
  5. A couple more weeks?? Are they joking? Wow.
  6. Thanks for calling and keeping us updated!
  7. Wow, they are taking their time. I heard back from the other school I applied to a week and a half after the application due date.
  8. Good luck! I had a 3.5 overall and 4.0 prereq GPA. In addition to that I had more than 200 volunteer hours and almost 30 hours of clinical observation (shadowing). I think that helped, because otherwise, I don't have almost any experience working in health care. Most of my work experience has been in customer service and sales, although I also work as a peer tutor in Anatomy and Chemistry at my school.
  9. The GW website just says 3.0 is the "preferred" GPA. Looks like they might consider applicants with a lower GPA. It probably depends on the strength of the rest of your application. You can always try applying and see what happens!
  10. The deadline was extended, but I've gotten emails from other programs that have extended their deadlines as well. Some semesters schools just don't get as many applicants. I think they extend their deadlines in order to try to find more highly qualified students.
  11. It would be me and my husband. Since the programs are accelerated, I don't think there will be time to work! I'm working 2 jobs this semester while taking 3 classes and volunteering at 2 places, and that is stressful enough...!
  12. Me too!! At least I know I got into the only other school I applied to. But I need to plan a visit to whichever schools I'm admitted to so I can figure out where I want to go. And I can't start planning these visits till I know where I'm accepted! I live all the way out in California and it's going to be a big move either way.
  13. I just woke up and sleepily checked my email and saw an email from GW Nursing. I was accepted!!! I turned my application in at the 1/15 deadline, so I didn't think I'd get a reply so soon! When I called a couple months ago, they told me it would take about 4-6 weeks for decisions to be released. It looks like either way, you'll get an email titled, "Your Decision Is Ready to View" once they have made any decision regarding acceptance. Good luck to everyone else!!!
  14. When I called for information a couple months ago, they said decisions would be made within 8 weeks of the deadline. I'm also out-of-state, but I don't know the stats on acceptance numbers.
  15. I haven't heard back from GW yet, so it looks like they will be waiting to evaluate my application after the deadline (tomorrow)! I'm kind of glad because I still haven't decided which school is my top choice. This way I'll probably hear back from both schools around the same time.
  16. You have to notify them by January 15th? That is the application deadline of the other program I'm applying to, and I'm not sure which one is my first choice yet...! The other program won't have an answer for me for a few weeks after their deadline.
  17. Congrats to everyone who has been accepted! My application is not complete because my references haven't been submitted yet. To those who have been admitted, do they give you a deadline to accept their offer? How much time do you have to notify them?
  18. Thanks for the ideas, Ruby! I may want to use those buzzwords! I forgot to note that these schools won't allow more than 2 (GW) or 3 (MUSC) recommendations. The forms are sent to references electronically and there's no way for me to add more into the online application form.
  19. I'm starting my nursing school applications and my top 2 choices are George Washington and MUSC (both ABSN programs). I need 2 letters of recommendation for GW and 3 for MUSC. A few different people said they would be happy to write me letters, but I don't know who would be best to choose for each program! I don't work in healthcare, but I have volunteered in hospitals. (I've only known leaders in those hospital programs for a few months, so I don't really feel comfortable asking them for recommendation letters.) GW does not specify who the references should be, but MUSC's website says, "Generally, we prefer academic and/or professional references." My choices are: • my Anatomy and Physiology Professor (definitely need a letter from her) • the owner (my boss) at the music store where I've worked for 3 years as head of one of the instrument departments • the leader of a volunteer program in which we teach meditation to prisoners (and facilitate Buddhist services) who I've known for 3 years and volunteer with 7 hrs/month • an RN who I've known for 15+ years from my family's church where I was involved in many volunteer projects - I haven't had much contact with her lately, but she knows my family well and said she'd "love" to write me a letter So... which 2 should I pick for GW? (professor + ?) And which 3 should I pick for MUSC? (professor + ? + ?) Any advice is appreciated!
  20. The priority deadline was Oct 15, but the final deadline isn't until Jan 15. I'm planning to call admissions for more information, but I know they don't require all prereqs to be complete to apply. They probably put priority on the science prereqs (Anatomy, Physio, Micro) being complete, but as far as I know you just have to make sure you finish all prereqs before actually starting at GW.
  21. Hello all! I'm planning to apply for Fall. I have a previous BA in Theatre with a 3.5 GPA. My prereq GPA is 4.0 at the moment, but I'm currently taking Physio and Micro (and having nervous breakdowns about once a week - lol). I have 110+ volunteer hours at hospitals and 40+ hours volunteering with a prison meditation program. I also have shadowing experience in 4 different areas of nursing. I don't have any work experience in a hospital, but I did work briefly as a "standardized patient" (an actor that helps with med student training) and I currently work as a Chemistry and Anatomy tutor at my school. So I'm really hoping all of this will be enough to get me accepted! My second choice right now is George Washington in VA. I live in California now but want to move back closer to family!
