I think the best gift would be a lovely card that expresses how much you have appreciated your mentor's help and what a great nurse you think they are. Lord knows there are not enough positive, loving stroke given to nurses!

Simple endotracheal suction technique can be found in any of the places mentioned. Why not give some newer important info like why we should stop routinely using NS lavage prior to suctioning. There are some good research articles out there on this subject.

We have been using CCO swans for some time now. It is the most popular swan, since we don't have to shoot manual outputs. It is more manageable if you hook it up to an H connector so you can get CVPs at the flip of a stopcock. The biggest drawback is that the more fiberoptics you add, the greater incidence of swan failure (ie low light intensity. also not working when temp out of range. Simple oximetrics aren't used that much anymore in our units.
