People keep telling me exactly what you are saying here. It’s just a matter of trying to convince me of it! It all makes a lot of sense but... Hopefully I get one of those moments of omg what the heck are you doing! But for now maybe I will take the advice of looking for another job!

When I hear that seniors there are asking about me then I know I have been a good nurse! When they wonder where I went and why I am not there anymore then I know! I have had someone say to me “I feel safe when you are here”. Or another that said “management is probably jealous that you could prob run the place better”. That’s when I know! Lol

Our union was very poor prior to this situation! That’s why I ended up here in the first place! The one rep wasn’t very supportive, they are suppose to work like a lawyer would and she didn’t! I have a new rep now since she left so hopefully it goes well! I am glad to see that you think it’s nonsense! My co worker calls it a fiasco lol! Thank you for the support this all makes sense!

Well May 3 is pretty much the day I find out whether or not I will be reinstated. If I don’t go back well I guess I need to figure something else out. And too late for that I am already depressed!

I am getting Employment Insurance for the time being but it’s not a lot so am living off credit. It’s also hard to find a new job when you are terminated. Like what do you say to the new employer? And if you don’t say anything they will ask if they can speak to the previous employer. Or they just find out some other way. Guess I could go work for Walmart or McDonald’s and nothing wrong with that.

And like the one person said here is that I did do a neuro assessment but it wasn’t done according to the form. Yes BP and pupil size etc is important. But so is their orientation and any other signs. Like one nurse said to me not all assessments are done by equipment. And no not everyone has to agree with me but it is nice to get some of the responses that give support and understanding. Which I have gotten quite a bit here! Thank you all for that!

And I guess this is the point I was trying to make in blaming management. No of course I don’t blame management for my errors but I do blame them for discord between staff and poisoned work environment. Divide and conquer is def their style! Guess my original post has derailed onto what it should have been in the first place. I do believe that we should be accountable for our own errors or omissions. However, but I def agree that this whole thing is a reflection of who they are. And I guess if they didn’t bring down my confidence so much I would be strong and move on. But that isn’t where I am at this time.

Yes thrown under the bus is def how I see it! Yes $ is all they care about! My co worker keeps saying how they have forgotten who has brought them to success! They were open only a few years before I started! Who got them to where they are at 18 years later?! Staff who have been there for a long time through thick and thin! One retired nurse got a retirement party! This is what I got! They favoured her and the rest of us are chopped liver!

They hired personal support workers to replace me on night shift. So yes I would say they got rid of me so they could pay the psws less $$. And to the message before the last one, you don’t have to agree with me but get all the facts before you pass judgement. Yes it is all about the $ there. They should have re education opportunities when things are not done up to par. No I don’t need retraining for neuro vitals but maybe some training on how to cope with two falls at the same time and being the only nurse available!

Yes people told me that too but I didn’t listen! Yes kinda hard if you only have the energy for one job!

They created the stress for me, took my leaves, then they fired me! Welcome to nursing life! The gratitude and appreciation is overwhelming! ?

I took a few sick leaves due to anxiety and depression but also stress from them. They probably didn’t feel like paying for that anymore!

She was acting normal and responding etc. We just have a “new” form that includes BP and checking pupils. I didn’t do those things as I didn’t bring the BP monitor or flashlight with me. There were some minor issues that I have on my record prior to this. Our new manager added a letter every week since she started. It just shows me that I was a target and they were looking for reasons to get rid of me. It’s beyond my comprehension their reason why. I think it’s based on my disability but they are saying it was something else. That’s my guess. I don’t really want to work for them but I was comfortable there and confident in my abilities there. I just was not the perfect nurse that’s all. This was nothing more than “not being perfect” . And an unsafe work environment. This woman should have been in a nursing home way back when. It became unsafe for her to live there. She needed more supervision.

Weight bearing, mobility, ROM and pain. I will find out in a couple of weeks if I will be reinstated. If not then hopefully severance. I have been reading up on things and it seems that there is some hope. There isn’t much more I can do than that. I just know I am a good nurse and to me they made a mistake. Yes I know I made some errors but I do deserve a second chance. They have treated me unfairly. They certainly treated me different than my co workers.

The new manager gave me a letter every week since she started. Which certainly doesn’t give me time to improve or change anything. When they first started they had a meeting and stated “if there is a bad apple, we dispose of it”. This to me sounded planned out. It was done in about one month of her starting. That to me looks very suspicious. Think they were micromanaging and looking for reasons, any reason.

Unfortunately there is a paper trail for minor issues. But it’s not about the same issue over and over again. I have since corrected those issues. So they did do the progressive discipline but it may not have been done correctly. Well it appears that way to me anyway. By that I mean “you didn’t do this” so if you continue to not do what’s required then you will be terminated. I don’t know I could be wrong but...

However, I don’t think here in Canada that they had “just cause” for dismissal. They actually have to explain to you what the issue is and provide ways for you to improve. They didn’t do any of that.

“It is clear, that despite having a policy for 5 years, you failed to meet the expectations of the facility. For that reason alone, you can be found to be negligent and justifiably fired. The remaining details are irrelevant, truly. If you performed your assessment per the policy, they would not have grounds to fire you. You should practice to the highest standard, not to the standard of those around you. “ Thats what one person said that my termination was “justified” .

There was one person who responded and said it was “negligent” and grounds for termination. Maybe you didn’t but yes I got that.

Also, an older nurse with clearly more experience, who is retired from there now, did not do neurovitals on any one either. So that tells you how much things have changed in “nursing 101” . Sorry we never did them unless the Dr ordered it or the hospital. I simply did what i have always done for the entire 18 years. You automatically just do what you have always done. I guess I need to start memorizing all the policies. Not easy but...

Wow the comments here sure did change from yesterday! Thank you for this! When I made that statement re more training before people were quick to insult and criticize me!! You don’t learn a lot in a retirement home tbh! The prob was that we had a DRC when I first started for years, then they didn’t have one for many years. Then suddenly think they were forced to. Many came and went for the last five years. Think we actually had 5 all together! They left because of poor management or even harassment! So they all changed things and made new protocols each time. Kinda hard to keep track of everything! And things might have changed since I was in school! They never did anything to help me improve it was all about the discipline! How does anyone learn or improve if they aren’t told or shown the proper way! I am actually a good nurse. I have sent people to the hospital many times before it was too late. I have dealt with many falls and not one person was ever hurt in my care! We all make mistakes and learn from them. But if we aren’t even made aware of our mistakes then how do we learn?? So for every mistake someone makes the answer is termination?! Yes and after 18 years of my life! I went above and beyond for them and this is the thanks I get! It’s sad very sad!

They also condoned this omission of neuro vitals in the past by myself and others. They never investigated to see if others were doing this as well. They never sat down with me to ask what exactly happened or why I didn’t do certain things etc etc. I went on stress leave for their treatment of me. Then the night I came back they were waiting with a letter for me. So I was fit to come back but they fired me instead.

Thank you so kindly! Yes I stayed for 18 long years and would have stayed even longer but nope no choice. Working on reinstatement. I have a union and they told union that they did not report me to the CNO which is the board here. I am thinking if I did something so horribly wrong then why didn’t they report me?! That remains a mystery. So no my license is fine but kinda hard to get another job if you were terminated!
