  1. I did not discuss it, another RN simply showed it to me, without me asking.
  2. And my ultimate goal is to work in the suburbs not inner city so maybe I'll just leave in a year or so anyways!
  3. Great advice by everyone. Thank you for your wise words. I will make a good case at my performance review at the beginning of the year. I will not bring up my coworkers pay! Thanks
  4. Hello all! I have been a BSN RN now for 2 years. 1.5 years in adult ICU, now 6 months in the NICU. I switched over to NICU and accepted what they offered to me because it was the same I was making at my previous job. Looking back now, I should've asked for more but I figured I was being greedy since I was going to be going through training. well now that I'm discussing with other new grads hired in the residency, two of them are getting paid THE EXACT SAME as me. And their experience is just tech experience! So now that I'm nearing the end of my training and at my 2 year as a Nurse mark, I was wondering if I should ask for a raise. I guess the worst thing they could do is say no? what do you guys think? Advice? thanks in advance.
  5. I decided to stay PRN!! I am required to work once every 2 weeks so I told my manager I would try And if it gets to be too much then I will let her know:)
  6. Thank you all for your replies!!! I will let y'all know what I decide.
  7. And another disclaimer- I'm not choosing NICU because I think everything will be fine and dandy and everyone will be nice
  8. I'm asking for serious replies only please. I never said NICU wouldn't be hard.
  9. Hello all! I am an adult Neuro ICU Nurse with 1.5 yr experience. I recently got accepted into a Neonatal ICU internship at Medical City Dallas (Level IV). I can't decide whether I should stay PRN at my adult ICU job or just quit altogether. I do not like my adult ICU job, but there are times I feel good about the skills I have- detecting Neuro changes, detecting a PE when the docs were going to send the patient home, code blues, etc. However, even on good days I'm not fully satisfied with my job and a lot of working with adults means working with people who treat you like crap and just want you to be their servant. It really affects me and I try so hard to stay the compassionate person I am but I'm slowly becoming one of those nurses who are jaded. It's hard not to when people are so harsh and we have to smile while they cuss us out. I always dreamed of NICU and now my opportunity has finally come!! I'm SO excited, but I know it'll be hard! Anyways, I can't decided whether I should keep up with my skills I worked so hard to obtain or if I should just quit and focus on my true passion. I don't know what the future will hold- whether or not I will want to become a FNP, NNP, or neither. I have no idea!! I feel it would be hard being a NICU nurse wanting to become a FNP. Anyone able to shed some light? I hope this all made sense.
  10. Hello all! I am currently an adult ICU Nurse who accepted a new position in a level IV neonatal ICU for February. I am so excited and want to be more prepared than I was for my adult ICU preceptorship. At this hospital, I will be working with a preceptor with the step down babies, then on my own for a little while, then critical babies with a preceptor. It should all be within the course of a year. what do you guys suggest I do to prepare? Any tips/tricks? I bought the Merenstein & Gardner neonatal textbook and started studying this. I also took the NRP. any advice would be appreciated!
  11. Yes I did! NICU was my first choice. I am currently an adult ICU RN wanting to switch and I finally am able to!
  12. I got offered the NICU residency at medical city dallas!!!! I am so excited 😀
  13. Medical city is having a NICU internship. It probably closed. Interviews are Oct 10 and people are already emailed for it
  14. THR is open today, unfortunately the only NICU they have open is Fort Worth.
  15. I just got an interview with Medicsl city dallas! And Shelby, I haven't heard from Children's yet.
