Home Health Care Pay
I just took a home health job (RN). Does $22.50 per hour sound fair for a nurse with 13 years hospital experience? I did do per visit hh about 10 years ago for about 1 year. I live in rural Texas.

Med/Surg or Not to Med/Surg. That is the question?
Personnally, I think most everyone should start in Med-Surg. I think it gives a person a good foundation for their future. I believe that after you have mastered Med-Surg, you can master any other field. It gives you a lot better understanding of how the hospital works also. I started in Med-Sug, then Urgent Care, Post Partum, Home Health, Hospice, ER ICU, IMC, day surgery, etc. I don't think I would be the nurse I am today if I hadn't started on Med-Surg. The nurses I see that start in a specialty area seem to have a "better than thou" attitude towards other departments, especially the floor. I think everyone should try it.

LTC verses hospital
I have worked 13 yrs in the hospital and 5 mos in LTC. I think you learn a lot more in the hospital. I prefer hospital. The NH I work at is some of the most challenging work I have ever done. I've worked med-surg, ER ICU, IMC, PP, amb care, stress lab, home health, and hospice.

LTC CPR on pt with rigor mortis and lividity
Yeah, I'm new to the NH and this doesn't make sense to me either. I've never heard of it in 13 yrs of hospital nursing. Even tough the pt was a full code.

LTC CPR on pt with rigor mortis and lividity
I completely understand. I've worked 13 yrs in the hospital and thats the way it is. Iv'e been in the NH for 5 mos, and we are told to do CPR on an obviously dead person because she is a full code. I've never heard of it either. I thought maybe the LTC nurses could explain why this is,

LTC CPR on pt with rigor mortis and lividity
One morning I went to work and 30 min into the shift, we found a pt with rigor mortis, and lividity - why would the DON tell us to do CPR? I felt like a complete idiot when EMS showed up.

LTC nurses - I need a reality check
I've never worked nightshift and i wouldn't even know how to compare days to nights. But the acuity is high as far as loads of two pt transfers and getting them up and down for meals, etc. If all I had to do was do my nursing job, I feel that it would be doable for 16 hrs. But all the lifting and cleaning, passing trays, etc and the pts still have to lay in their own waste for long periods of time because we can not get to them makes it impossible to deal with. And the EVERY WEEKEND short staffing

LTC nurse in Texas
Can someone please tell me what phone number to call the state with a complaint in Texas? Also, please explain what to expect and when to expect it. Thank you.

LTC nurses - I need a reality check
The two nurses do the charting, treatments, glucometers, resp tx, tons of paperwork for skin tears and falls (which happen EVERY weekend), assist with all 3 meals, and as much aide work as possible - showers, lifting, cleaning, etc.

LTC nurses - I need a reality check
Unbelievable!! I guess I've been SPOILED to hospital nursing. I can not believe this type of staffing is LEGAL. I will forever defend nursing home nurses any time I hear someone put one down. I am still astonished that this seems to be common in LTC. I had no idea. Totally Blown Away!!!

LTC nurses - I need a reality check

LTC nurses - I need a reality check
TheCommuter I have noticed that you post to a lot of discussions and seem very knowledgeable. I almost feel like I know you from reading so many of your posts. Do you know where I can find any data for required staff in NH?
