thank you so much everyone, i will most definitely take your advices ASAP, again i love my job and i want to be the best nurse possible (i pray every day before i go to work) and learning is huge for me and i will try to get my coworkers to see that in me by asking more questions and by adding more to my statements on another note, my hubby agrees with the men vs women comment, he says at his job (where he works with all men) if a guy forgets to do something and he was reminded, if he said ok it meant he'll do it lol

I recently had a talk with my nursing supervisor and apparently some of the staff have been mistaking my inverted/shy personality for not caring. For example, when someone says I forgot to document something and I say "oh ok" I actually correct the mistake but this coworker apparently told my supervisor that I basically said "oh ok whatever". We also had an emergency during labor and staff came in to assist but even though I'm new and was trying to be helpful, they said I gave the impression that the emergency situation did not phase me. I don't understand how to change that. I went home and cried in my husband's arms. I love my job and I do CARE about my patients and their babies and even their families and I always get great feedback from my patients and their families but I don't know what to do about staff members' perception of me. I'm so upset over this.

My question is when a decel occurs immediately following an epidural loading dose, is it wrong to let the pt know that the epidural can cause this? I was told by the charge nurse to never let the pt know that and I can't understand why. Also we have a code button behind every pt's bed, if i see a fhr decel that i cannot correct immediately with o2, repositioning, and a bolus (if the pt has fluids running), I hit the button in order not to leave the pt's side so i can continue to attempt to bring the FHR up while the staff runs into the room to assist me and call the OB doc and NICU, can i write that i hit the code button for those reasons in the chart? (the code button only alerts OB/NICU staff)

Although I work at a small hospital, our OB department actually has their own ORs and they require us (OB nurses) to scrub for the c-sections. They have us orient to scrub for 3 c-sections and consider us trained so I recently scrubbed for the 1st time on my own and felt so lost as to the order of the instruments and the MD was not patient at all which made me even more nervous.

I oriented as a scrub nurse 3 times but I still don't quite have the hang of it. I don't exactly know the general order to hand off the instruments. The doctor was upset with me because he said I was supposed to know which instruments he wanted before he even asked for them. Can someone please help me? Also does anyone know any mnemonics or anything like that for remembering the types of instruments and maybe the order to hand them off in? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Long story short, I quit my job recently after 3 years because it was unsafe and management just didn't care. Nurses don't work together, it felt like high school with all the gossip and back stabbing. New people don't last long here and at least 10 RNs have quit in the last 3 months (not including me). I don't have a job yet but I have 3 interviews (one of them is today). It's no surprise why I wanted to leave but when my manager asked me why (with tears in her eyes) I didn't want to delve into it and just said personal reasons. She kept asking me why I'm leaving and I just felt terrible about kicking her while she was down (she was recently talked to her by her boss about the horrible staffing situation) so I didn't. When these potential new employers call my boss, will she confront me? If she does, what should I say?

no need for the quotes around the word friend, i posted a while back in the nclex boards saying i passed, my friend took her test about 2 weeks after i took mine. and i have no idea what she decided regarding her job, she will still not answer our calls so we have stopped trying to reach her. i have emailed her that information from the ct.gov website but have not received a response from that either. i have noticed that people who have failed really don't want people to know and don't want to talk about it. on the other hand i have another friend who failed who calls consistently and does not care who knows (but i'm sure that's rare). Thanks everyone for all the replies but b/c she doesn't answer our calls, we cannot pass on the information (at least not anymore than we have).

In the state of CT, you do lose your GN status once you take the NCLEX. I had to find out this info for my friend. I don't think it's fair but that's what it says.

I called her and she's still not picking up my phone calls (just quickly answers my emails) so I left her a message. I really don't think that she's thinking at all right now and just might be overwhelmed. I wanted to make sure and have something else to say other than that I didn't think it was a good idea.

My friend took her board before she started her GN orientation/position and failed. She wanted to know if she's required to let them know that she failed the boards. Her job is offering a huge loan forgiveness program and she's afraid of losing it. I believe she should tell but I don't honestly know what the protocol is. If anyone knows please reply. TIA.

In the course book it clearly states that on the questions trainers you need between a 60-65%. I believe it's in the introduction section. I agree with the other posters, if she's kicking students out of the class, it's a serious problem and it's good that you didn't pay for the class but I would still be upset. Can you report her?

Thank you for your advice. She studied so hard and even lost a lot of weight on her already thin frame. I feel so horrible for her and when she's ready to talk we're going to be there for her. We'll even take her out. I know I would've felt exactly the same way if I were in her shoes and it's just....sad.

I took the Kaplan course and it teaches you mainly how to answer the questions (as you already know). I believe I needed that and also a review of the materials (which you can review by watching the videos in the Review Content section). The Kaplan questions are definitely harder than the actual NCLEX (that's why they only need you to get 60-65% right). But the test looks exactly like you see on the Question Trainers (you can look at the sample on the pearsonvue site). I did hear that some of the instructors are not nurses (not sure if that's the case with yours). If you have questions, ask them, if she doesn't like them, too bad. Some of those questions are reviewed in the Review Content section as well (the question content section not the trainers). But I felt the review helped me (b/c I really needed it). I passed but a friend who took the same course with me did not (and we're trying to help her get through this tough time). If you have questions keep asking until you get a clear answer b/c that's the only way you can understand how to answer the questions correctly. If you're getting good scores on the Question Trainers, then you are definitely understanding the concept and are answering the questions correctly. If your scores are in the 40's-50's, keep practicing. Good Luck.

My friend and I studied a lot together for the NCLEX RN. I took my exam 2 weeks earlier than she did (passed). I found the licensing website for the state for her and noted that some of the people that took the test with her at the same site on the same day and time were listed with their license numbers. Hers however was not. It has now been 3 days since she has taken the test and she will not return our phone calls (from myself and mutual friends who graduated with her--which she said would happen if she failed). She studied so much and she was so dedicated. I really want to know what I can do to help her get through this. Should I give her a while to deal with this on her own? Should I keep calling? Any advice??? By the way, she had 75 questions, and a ton of select all that apply (but they were about meds).

I just found out my results, I was shaking. I got about 2 math questions, 2 select all that apply, a few med questions and a ton of priority questions (it was one after another after another in the middle and at the end-didn't know it was a good thing till I read the info on this board).
