Hello all. I am currently in an ACNP program and i'm wondering if its worth it. I have been a critical care flight RN for 7 years and an ED RN for 6 years before that. I accepted a spot in an NP program because I want to advance my career, maintain the autonomy that i get as a flight RN and honestly, get paid more. As i traverse the NP program i'm left wondering if its worth it? The time, commitment, money spent. I truly do enjoy learning more, but in the end, it seems that some NPs go back to working in the unit because they make more as a floor RN. Some wind up simply writing orders for a trauma service but never actually get to DO anything. Im at a crossroads. DO i continue on with the NP commitment hoping ill be happy with the pay, duties, etc. Basically, what's it like for you APRNs out there? Would you do it again? Is it worth it? Or are you disappointed with the end results? (pay, job, etc.)

Hey all, I'm curious. Im looking at moving into the CRNA realm. (like a lot of others i imagine). Ive been working as a flight RN (rotor) for 6 years now and have 6 years as an ED/Trauma RN in a level I trauma center. Does anyone have any insight into whether this type of experience is suitable for CRNA school? Im looking at picking up a poet diem ICU job for the next two years to maybe supplement a little. In your opinions, does this qualify for sufficient ICU experience? Or should i just go full time ICU? Id like to stay in the flight world for a while longer if i could, but i understand that it will come to an end at some point. Im looking at East coast CRNA schools Thanks for any input! JH

Im going to jump in on this and see what i can find out. Heres my dilemma. I am a 6 year flight RN with a background as a Level I trauma ED RN. (6 years). So, no ICU time per se. I am looking into CRNA school and I'm having a difficult time trying to figure out if my flight experience is enough experience. I have the opportunity to go fly for 2 more years with a well respected and ICU heavy flight program and i was planning on doing some per diem ICU work. Im just not sure it will cut mustard when i start applying. (would love to go to UNE) Any thoughts? should i just go all in and get a full time CVICU gig? Id really love to keep flying as long as i can. but i do understand it has to end at some point. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
