Management opportunity...stay put or get experience?
I am an FNP student currently working in an ASC. I love my job and my coworkers. Our old boss got a new job as the director of a new ASC and she has asked me to be her preop/PACU clinical manager. The pay is roughly 3000 more/yr (negotiable-salary position). I currently work 7-1530, no nights or weekends or call. The new position has the same operational hours, ( no nights, no call, no weekends or holidays) but as salary I have no real set schedule other than being available during operational hours. My main concern is when I start clinicals in November. The current job says I can go to 4 days a week (but that is less pay). I can leave the new job whenever cases are done and my money won't be affected, however, I could be forced to stay late as well if cases run over. I occasionally have to stay late at my current job. I have the potential to get bonuses at the new job-no bonuses at the current one. Other comparisons: -I have 15 months until I am fully vested in my 401 k at my current job, they have 6% matching. The new job only matches 3%. -They both have the same amount of tuition assistance, and there is about a 5-10 minute difference in commute. -My current coworkers are amazing. The new place doesn't have any staff yet, but I would get to pick my staff with my boss. The new position looks good on my resume. -The current job is peds only, the new job is adults and peds. I have to decide by Friday

**Deciding between FNP schools - HELP**
Congratulations on your acceptance! The FNP program is challenging, but doable. I do have one piece of advice- ask about the clinical requirements before you get started. I started my online FNP degree at UT- Arlington. It is all online, but you can only do clinicals in the state of Texas. I ended up moving a semester before my adult rotation and I was told I had to withdraw from the program or come back to Texas- which was impossible.I ended up having to transfer and I now I am a year behind schedule. Be sure that you can do you practicum hours wherever you are if the school you choose is out of state. Most grad schools only take 6-8 transfer hours and you definitely don't want to repeat anything. I was able to transfer all my class credit hours (I had 19), but I am not exactly in love with my current school. Good luck! USC sounds awesome, but yikes! That tuition!

Too soon to ask about going part time or to day shift?
I would ask now about switching to days (and get on the list) because there's no telling how long that list will be if you wait. Then you'll be stuck on nights for longer than you could have been if you'd put yourself on the list. As far as going part-time, I'd wait until after you made it to days first. See how you feel then before asking for less hours.

Move onto new job or stay at current one?
Hi, Have you considered the benefits- retirement, PTO, insurance, etc? I m currently trying to decide on a new job as well. Comparing benefits did not work for me (they each had a major plus in different categories) so it's not really helping, but it could help you. Have you considered those? Just from you've said, I think your current job sounds better. The commute and needing more child care for the new job seems like you would not benefit from that dollar difference in pay. I hope it all works out for you! Good luck!
