  1. I have been an ICU RN for 3 years and a discussion came up at work last night about patient ratios for ICU nurses. I was under the impression that there were standards for the number of patients an ICU nurse can have. I am aware that Tele/Med Surg nurses are often advocating for less patient to staff ratios but I am curious as to if there is a "law" or "mandate" in the state of Arizona? Another employee states that individual hospitals come up with this number. Thanks, Debbie:nurse:
  2. I guess I got a reply from a messege that I had posted WAY back about Ethel Bauer. Congrats that you are in your 4th block....hope things go great and I wish you the best of luck....... Natyrallyred!
  3. I am a new graduate RN and I work in the Phoenix area. I am now off of orientation and will now have to make decisions for myself. This said, I was wondering if anyone knew the actual AZ State Board of Nursing policy on giving a bolus of Diprivan. This happens a lot in the hospital I work in for intubation purposes. The Doctor is standing less that a foot away from me and the IV pump, the doctor is also sterile for the procedure. He then tells whichever RN is standing at the bedside to bolus the patient 10cc's in order to help with intubating the patient. I have seen several nurses do it but then again some say you do it and then don't talk about it, since Diprivan is a form of anesthesia. All I really care about is my license and where I would stand in a "legal issue," with this. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks in advance, Naturallyred
  4. Have you enrolled in a Nursing Program yet? Just wondering. I just graduated from EBSN and they don't have their accredidation yet since it is based on my class (the first graduates of the school) has to take and pass the boards in order for the school to get accredited. :mortarboard:
  5. I will be in the first graduating class of Ethel Bauer. I am in my final block now. Actually we are done with school about mid-September but do not graduate until Oct. 6, 2006. It is right around the corner though. I have been in since it's start in March 2005 so I actually have a LOT of information about the school.
