  1. Similar to leadkrm, I applied to three jobs, was asked to interview and shadow, and turned down two offers to ultimately accept my dream job at Eskenazi ER. I’ll also be starting on Monday! Definitely no struggle finding a job, the majority of my classmates already had something lined up before graduating.
  2. It's been a month since graduation and I wanted to check in earlier but the site has been under construction. Has anyone taken their NCLEX yet or how has NCLEX studying been going? I took the NCLEX January 5th and found out I passed on the 7th! It's the biggest relief as I was practicing 250+ questions a day and some nights wide awake stressing about it. Good luck with studying, your job search or new job opportunities!
  3. I do peer tutoring once a week and a first semester student who received their schedule for second semester said they have mental health for 8 weeks then med surg 2 for 8 weeks and pharmacology the entire 16 weeks.
  4. Yes we're almost done! A month until graduation it's going by fast but finding motivation to study has been challenging. I'm sort of burnt out and just ready to be done. I had my first interview last week for a nurse residency on a progressive care unit. So it's becoming very real. I hope I can take the NCLEX soon after graduating. I'm also in IUPUC's RN-BSN program and I only have 4 classes left after this semester. If anyone has any questions let me know but it sounds like Lawrence is changing some things around as far as 16week courses becoming 8 weeks and things like that.
  5. That's pretty much what I've heard from LPN students. The tests are really difficult no matter how much you study. I'm most nervous about this class than any of the other ones, but we'll get through!
  6. @Leadkrm That's awesome. I have no idea where I want to work. Working as a PCA is invaluable experience. Congrats and yes I have class on Thursday mornings. Have you already taken OB/Peds? Any advice?
  7. Third semester done! I completed the semester at the end of July and it was intense but I made it through. On top of that, I enrolled at IUPUC and am working on getting my BSN. Just finished four classes plus still working full-time. Fourth semester starts in about 10 days and I can't believe I'm almost done! We only have class two days a week with OB/Peds Lecture and Clinical and Capstone. Now I'm thinking of where I want to work and getting prepared for the NCLEX. I'd like to take it asap after graduating so I can finish the rest of my BSN classes. If anyone has any questions about Lawrence ASN program let me know!
  8. Just popping back in to see how it is going for everyone. I'm only about 4 weeks away from being done with second semester and I'll be going through the summer taking complex medsurg. This semester I'm taking pharm, medsurg 2 and mental health. Mental health has been the least favorite across the board for most in my cohort so really ready to be done with it and move on. Leadkrm you are about to graduate right? 37changes how is your second semester going for you? Not sure what to expect this summer since complex seems like a lot of material to do over the summer plus the amount of clinical hours we have to complete but medsurg has been my strongest class so far. Good luck on finals!
  9. I'm in my first semester of nursing school at Ivy tech in the Lawrence campus. Not sure what campus you're going to but every Ivy Tech campus is different so I can only speak for where I go. I've also read a lot of the same things you've mentioned. I just got my midterm grades and have all A's and I work full-time. I will say it's challenging, it can feel overwhelming at times but not as hard as people make it seem now that I'm actually doing it. Granted, I'm only in my first semester but I'm feeling more confident that I can do well as I go. I work in the medical field so I do think that has given me some advantages, but there are some that have never stepped foot in a hospital and there is a learning curve and I think that's where the nervousness about clinicals comes from. Instructors also play a huge part. My experiences in clinical or lab compared to my some classmates are very different just because we have different instructors.
  10. I'm at Lawrence as well. Yes like leadkrm said all our classes run 16 weeks. Clinical starts 2-3 weeks in just so we can get the basics done vitals, assessment, PPE, transfers and safe positioning and as we continue learning things in lab and get checked off on our competencies we're able to do more in clinicals. I will say I got lucky with the instructor I have for lab and I can say the same for clinical, my classmates tell me of a different experiences depending on the instructor kind of like what leadkrm. My lab instructor is very straight to the point, cuts out all the extra fluff, tells us exactly what she wants to see from us and communicates more in ways I can improve rather than this is what you did wrong. I know I won't have this luxury every semester.
  11. I can't believe we're already half way through the first semester. I've been able to get A's on our first two tests in med-surg and in funds. I love clinical so much To learn and we always stay busy and love lab probably even more lol we just took our midterm competency and it went well.
  12. Thanks! That's very helpful to know
  13. First week was definitely overwhelming just getting oriented but once I organized everything I'm feeling a little better. There's definitely a lot of good resources for studying provided to us and I enjoy all the professors you can tell they love what they do. Leadkrm, any advice/tips on studying for test for fundamentals and med-surg for lawrence? Is it possible to get an A on the test lol? Fundamentals is a ton of information although not difficult to understand and this first test has the least amount of content (btw I can't even imagine taking it over 4 weeks) but they said half of students usually fail the first test. I know once I take the first test, I will have a better idea of what and how to study but definitely nervous and want to do well. Any advice will be greatly appreciated!
  14. Ugh not looking forward to that uniform 😞
  15. I just got my acceptance letter for Lawrence ASN!
  16. I was actually going to post about this. Pretty sure first round of emails will go out first thing tomorrow morning. Spring 2017 application deadline was September 1st and people starting posting acceptance emails on September 9th. If you look at the Spring 2017 scores file you can see the comments. So be ready to start hearing good news tomorrow! ETA: I'm glad wrong that's great!
  17. Where have your clinicals been so far? I work downtown at IU Health (Methodist/University/Riley) and I'm wondering if I'll end up having any there?
  18. Depending on which round you're chosen, as early as one week, as late as 4 weeks.
  19. I applied to Lawrence/Indy only. I'm glad I have a manager who's flexible plus the majority of my full-time shift is on the weekend. I'm really hoping I can stay full-time the entire program (36+ hr/wk) I also have a part-time job at home I'd like to keep I'd have to work at least 5 hours a week, but I have no idea if maybe I'd be putting too much on my plate. I'm currently working 70 hours a week saving for nursing school.
  20. So on the ivy tech nursing facebook group a student who started in Spring 2017 posted the paper given that listed all the things needed to get done before starting including vaccines. I'm assuming it isn't much different from Fall 2017. But keep in mind each campus is different Two doses MMR (4 weeks apart) or titer showing immunity Two doses varicella (4 weeks apart) or titer showing immunity Hepatitis B series (3-dose series) 2nd dose one month after the f1st and 3rd dose 5 months after the second (from what I've seen on the group page it looks like as long as you've started the series you can participate in clinicals. All three do not need to be done by the time classes start). Tdap with Td booster if Tdap is older than 10 years Influenza - annually TB screening - annually
  21. I'm applying to Indy also. I have 146 points and feel pretty confident I will get in mostly because of my TEAS score I got a 91% I got a B in English from when I took it in high school. I think anyone applying at the Indy campus with a 140 or above should feel pretty confident they will get accepted. Yes it's a bigger pool and every semester is different because you don't know who you're up against but from what I've seen and the points that get accepted it's still competitive, it's once you start getting into the lower range of points that they start looking at your science scores on TEAS and go into decimals and every point makes a huge difference. Someone could have a B in English and Psych and an A in anatomy and if they score in the 90's on the TEAS still have a good chance of getting in, in my opinion it's all about the points.
  22. I'm part of a facebook group for students interested in/planning to apply for Ivy tech nursing program and current students. The question about the deadline for TEAS testing has come up, and it seems as though each campus has been told different things from their different advisors on this. Someone posted a screenshot of the nursing manual and it states it must be 30 days prior but a lot of students have been told by their advisors (and It was also stated at the information session in lawrence) that it can be taken days before the deadline, as long as you give it enough time to show up on the online application. That and the fact you have to wait 30 days between the two attempts it's probably stated that way so that if you aren't happy with your first score you can still attempt again in time for the deadline? Either way I'm more on the cautious side and decided to take it way ahead to get the stress out of the way.
  23. That's correct, you can't jump from section to section. There is an allotted amount of time for each section and if you finish before that time is up it does not roll over into another section. You can take 10 min break I believe.... between the first two sections. You can skip around within a section, answers are not final until you've submitted everything at the end. I skipped questions that were taking a lot of time and went back or if I had extra time at the end I went back and made sure I felt good about the answers I had chosen.
  24. Great thank you, that's good to know. I was already in the process of requesting time off work to attend but I've already read over the online PDF so I'm glad that's enough.
  25. Hey again all, I took my TEAS today and scored a 91.3% I'm so happy I wanted to get at least an 85 to feel confident applying. I now have a score of 146.3/160 I purchased the online practice test B on the ATI website and scored at 83.3%. I'm planning on going to the information session in March at the Lawrence campus. Anyone else going? Do they take attendance to make sure you've attended? On the website it says you have to do it online or in person within three months prior to applying.
