  1. Silly question - If we start in June 2021, how many semesters total is our program and when would we graduate? Thanks!
  2. I haven't heard back and I applied to the Advanced Certificate/DNP program!
  3. Does everyone who apply to the BSN-DNP program get the DNP merit scholarship?
  4. Starting a thread to connect with others in the application cycle for the 2021 Fall start NYU Rory Meyers DNP program. Good luck everyone!
  5. My application status just changed to "additional review required" as well.
  6. Basically, my dream psych NP school starts in June but I started working this past August. I would have to uproot for this dream NP school and quit my job (which I wouldn't be upset about since I am not currently feeling super passionate about my job). Also, my current job also has nothing to do with psych - I work on med-surg. Any thoughts on what I should do? Should I just wait until next year and get a year's worth of experience at my job?
  7. Hi! I am looking for people who are going through or have gone through the program to answer some questions, as well as get your perspective on my situation. Background: I'm currently a new grad med-surg pediatric nurse at a top 3 hospital. However, I'm really missing psych nursing and believe this is where my true passion is. I don't like the city I live in, and switching to an entire new unit within the hospital is out of question for me since I don't want to stay here past 1.5 years. If I choose to do Columbia's Psych DNP, I would leave my job 9 months into it. Now for the questions: 1) Will I be at a disadvantage if I don't have psych RN experience prior to the DNP program? 2) How long is the program if you completed the MDE program? (I graduated from the equivalent program at a different school - so I have a direct entry MSN) 3) Does your school schedule enable you to work part time during the Psych DNP program? Will people even hire me as a RN in NYC part time as a new nurse with less than one year experience? Psych nursing is my PASSION and I cannot wait to work with adolescents and young adults one day as a psych NP. I love that Columbia's Psych DNP program has components on psychotherapy. I am just worried about the timing of starting this program, as well as not having psych RN experience. Please give me advice, thank you!
  8. Hi, I'm in a pickle where I currently work as a new grad RN on a med-surg unit. I am two months into this job with a month of orientation left to go. However, my heart is and has always been in psych nursing. I am regretting that I made a "smart" decision to take on a med-surg job instead of going into psych right away. I don't feel passionate about my current job and feel like I'm going through the motions, whereas I felt genuine joy and a sense of fulfillment with psych nursing during clinical and when I worked as a nurse tech in psych. Should I switch into a psych job at my hospital, or just leave my job in June to go to Psych NP school (which I was planning to do eventually down the road anyway)? Either way, I just want to get out and go back to psych. Please help, -tothepointe
  9. Of course, happy to help! Thanks for your words of encouragement too ? Pretty much every day during the program when you have classes at school, you have a 1.5-2 hour break between 11:30-1:30 which would give you lots of time to go home and let your dog out. I would go with the studio in Upper Fells right by the park.
  10. Hi! I would pick somewhere closer to Patterson Park if you have a dog. The shuttle is a pain, being walking distance to school really helps. I'm starting work at JHH along with ~20 of my classmates this August. Only a handful of people are going on for the DNP. I can't imagine doing more school right away personally, and I want to gain RN experience first.
  11. I LOVED it. Everyone at graduation was clapping and standing for the professors during the recession part of the ceremony - which I think speaks volumes.
  12. I'm a recent spring 2019 grad from the Hopkins MEN program!
  13. Hi all! An interesting tidbit of info - out of the ~110 members of the Spring 2019 graduating cohort of the MEN program, approximately 15 new graduates accepted a job offer in the pediatrics department of Johns Hopkins Hospital (assuming that there are only several new grad openings on each floor, majority of them were taken by Hopkins new grads). Consider where you want to work AFTER nursing school when deciding where to go for school.
  14. Hi ximenurse, please share why you chose JHU over Penn :)
  15. Thank you @breadsnroses! Does anyone know if you can transfer the MSN credits in this program to DNP programs outside of Johns Hopkins? Or is it just Johns Hopkins?
  16. Is anyone choosing between here and UPenn's ABSN program? What are your pros and cons?
  17. Definitely want to live off campus! Is anyone else about to graduate this upcoming April/May?
  18. Did anyone else apply to just the ABSN program, not the BSN/MSN?
  19. Hi everyone! I'm excited to be a part of the incoming ABSN class. Is there a Facebook group yet?
