Oh possibly, what is the purpose of this?

Good evening, my professor said that most healthcare facilities have some sort of magnet either behind the nurses station or over the medication room door... she wanted me to look up the meaning of it for tomorrow but the only thing I can find is that it relates to a facility being magnet status... I feel that is not the answer however. Can someone help me please.

So how do they get more flow in the catheter?

And when the sensor goes off, it sucks more blood? What if s lot of blood sneaks by?

And what is this kind of cath used for? Does the cuff prevent all blood from.flowing by?

So how do they ensure that blood flows into the catheter and more of it doesn't flow around it?

If a dialysis catheter is inserted into a large vein like the superior vena cava, it obviously will have to travel through a smaller vein first such as the jugulag vein, so when it gets into the larger vein there will be extra space on the sides of the catheter for blood to sneak through? Is there a balloon or whatever that inflates to create a tight seal?

Thank you for the reply... is there a guaranteed number of does that a person can be on propofol before propofol infusion syndrome sets in? In other words does its onset correlate with the amount of days used?

No agenda lol, just been reading how it is almost modern days idea of the "ideal anesthetic" minus a few shortcomings. I can find how long it can be administered for?

I know there's a recommendation to not use for more than 48 hours at a time but many other people I know who work in ICU's and such said that they will use it for weeks at another. Also, other sources said it can be used for extended periods of time if the benefits outweigh the risks. What is your take?

How are protein bound toxins removed?

Well I ask because I know some meds or drugs because of their molecular propertis or not "dialyzable" and cannot be removed with dialysis.

Oh I see so propofol would already be totally metabolized and out of the system by the time they set the machine up?

Would hemoperfusion (or even hemodialysis or hemofiltration) work for an accidental Propofol overdose (hypothetical) or Benzo overdose? I ask because I know certain drugs arent able be removed through dialysis or whatever and I couldn't find any information about Propofol or Benzos. I know Propofol is given by an anesthesiologist so an acvident would be rare and a Benzo has an antagonist but just in a hypothetical situation?

Anyone else have any other experiences?

Well yes, I am looking for person experiences as what you read online can often be conflicting. So what I was asking was (for those of you that use or previously used) barbiturate such as methohexital or sodium thiopental, if you found them to be correlated with a high incidence of post op nausea or vomiting? If yes, do you think it's the barbiturate anesthetic itself? Or do you think it's other factors such as opioid administration that would normally be suppressed with the antiemetic effeces of propofol?

Does precedex cause a lot of nause or vomiting as a side effect? Compared to other sedatives or anesthetics?

Speaking of, do you use any barbiturates where u are?
