  1. This same exact situation happened to me! I went prn at my homehealth job. I tried to quit twice and she guilted me into staying prn. I finally worked up the courage to put in a "final two week notice." In my interview for my new job I said that I was trying to go PRN at the hospital and my manager told me I had to quit and apply for the PRN spot, which she actually did tell me, which apparently is not how that works lol. So I said I had to find a job in the mean time but really wanted back in the hospital. I am leaving the homehealth job off my resume. I'm also taking classes for my RN to BSN so I did and do actually have a reason for leaving the hospital, trying to go PRN in the first place. But yes homehealth was terrible. 60 to 80 hr work week, on call every weekend, which really means you have to go see the daily visits and do the weekend admissions. I drove probably a total of three hours a day. I would also get called everyday around 9 or 10 am and they would add patients, always in a different town. It was a terrible job. I feel like a weight is off my shoulders.
  2. I feel the same way you do. I wish i knew this is what nursing was before I went to nursing school.

Thank you for your input everyone. I have of course considered both NP and PA and I have chosen PA. I have reasons for choosing it but I would like to stop the debate on which is better, who is smarter blah blah blah. I have already completed a lot of the pre reqs needed for the PA program and have done a lot of research on it and it is just what I have my heart set on. Thank you all for the advice!
  4. I started on nights, did it for 9 months and quit because I couldnt handle it anymore. I was on a waiting list to move to days and they kept telling me I would get to go the next month, then the next and so on. I ended up leaving and now work for homehealth 8 to 5. I physically feel way better but I dont think it was worth leaving my job. If i could go back I would have tried to suck it up because I really do miss that job, it was on a trauma floor and I learned so much. So my advice would be to learn from my mistake and try to stick with it.

Has anyone ever thought about doing a PA program or is anyone doing a PA program? This is what I really want to do and I even moved two hours to the town where the school is to do this. Im still in the process of RN to BSN as a bachelors degree is necessary to do the program but I was wondering if anyone had any tips or advice or if they could share their experience? Thank you!
  6. I feel the same way. I started in a hospital on the trauma floor. I worked there for 9 months.I became so overwhelmed that I quit and went to homehealth thinking it would be less stressful, wrong. As much as I dreaded going to work at the hospital every night, I really miss it now. I guess my point is, dont quit because you are stressed because you might really regret it. Its a lot of really good learning experiences and it does get better the longer you do it I think. It was neat going home knowing I learned something new everyday, even if I was crying on the drive home! Lol
