  1. Excellent - you are so helpful!!!
  2. Hi again Ampharos - one more quick question: Do you need any of the books for the second semester? I'm thinking of renting some of them, but wondered if they would be used again... Thank you!
  3. Ok, thanks so much - that's really helpful. On our letter, it said the ATI will be sold separately, and I see that the SIMchart thing can also be purchased separately, so I'm pretty inclined not to buy the bundle. And thanks for letting me know about the used books, etc. - that's a good option. :)
  4. Ampharos, I'm not sure if you're still reading this, but if so, I was wondering if you could weigh in on the textbook bundle sold through the bookstore? I was looking at everything included, and calculated that I could buy or rent all of the books for about half the price through amazon, but I wasn't sure if there was some code or important resource that might be missing if I did things that way...any thoughts on this? Is the bundle really necessary? Thanks!
  5. Ok, sure. Prereq GPA: 4.0 Terminal degree GPA (doctorate): 3.99 GRE: 325, 168 V, 157 Q AWA 5.0
  6. Thanks for making the Facebook group, MinnesotaAndy! I was hoping something like that would get started. abrimey do you mean like GPA and GRE, etc?
  7. Hi, MinnesotaAndy, nice to meet you! I'm glad I won't be the only one who's not used to the winters! :) I also am looking forward to meeting people - I don't really know anyone in the Twin Cities either. It would be great to have a facebook group...I wonder if they would start that for us? Looking forward to meeting you in a few months!
  8. Hi - I haven't heard anything yet. I'm wondering if they'll wait until after the April 15 deadline, then send a message to everyone who has enrolled...looking forward to meeting you this fall!
  9. Congratulations to you, too, extasy! And thanks, Ampharos. I'm sure I'll probably have questions at some point...Looking forward to next fall!
  10. I don't know if anyone else is reading this thread, but I thought I would update that I received my acceptance today. I would love to hear from anyone else who is planning to start this fall!
  11. Is anyone else getting ready to interview this week? Mine will be Monday...just wondering how the process is going for others! I'm starting to get a little nervous. :)
  12. Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that. You seem like a really kind, well-spoken person, and I was hoping that we would both be accepted and could meet in person. I hope that you will have better luck next year. Did anyone else have good news?
  13. Everything ended up working out, thank goodness. And I just received an email that I got an interview! I hope everyone else is getting good news too...
  14. Well, I have a frustrating NursingCAS update. My application was rejected today, as they said they need a transcript from a study abroad program I did in 1997, which I thought was covered by my BA transcript (the credits and grades are listed there). In twenty years and two other graduate degrees, I've never been asked for a transcript for this! The school that the study abroad program was through couldn't even find my record for half of the day. Now I'm back to square one - trying to get this transcript sent as soon as possible, but it will have to be mailed, processed, and then verification will restart. I have a terrible feeling that this is going to invalidate my application.
  15. Bee55881, thank you so much for the kind words. Because of my experience with my son, I'm hoping to work in some capacity with pediatric patients with congenital heart defects. My son had a complex heart defect, but did amazingly until his second open heart surgery. After the surgery, there was an extremely rare complication, and he very unexpectedly didn't make it through. I am really interested in working in a CV PICU setting, although I know that this desire is colored by my experience, so I'm trying to stay open-minded. What are you hoping to specialize in? And thank you for offering information about Minneapolis! If I'm accepted, I will definitely take you up on it. :) I've heard so many people say that they absolutely LOVE living in Minneapolis, and it seems like a great city. My husband is super into biking, so he's very excited about the park system and trails. I am not so excited about the weather. Even though we lived in Chicago for ten years (I went to school there), we have been in CA and HI for the past three, and I think I've lost my tolerance for cold. Sometimes, when I'm walking around my neighborhood, in flip flops, in January, I think, What am I doing???!!! Moving from the warmest city in the US to basically the coldest??? I guess I'll just have to soak it up while I can! :)
  16. This is my only application, too. I grew up in the Midwest but am currently living in Hawaii. After a major personal experience with the medical field (my 16 month old was born with medical issues and died this past summer) I decided to make a career change, and wanted to move closer to family. After looking into cities and programs somewhat near my family, I decided that UMN looked perfect. So I tailored my prereqs this semester to be ready for this application. It was intense...5 prereqs in one semester! I'm glad to hear that this program has a good reputation to people who live in the area. I have some family working in the medical field in the Minneapolis area, but it's definitely hard to know what the school and area are really like, being so far away.
  17. Congratulations! That's great news. My final transcript was finally processed yesterday, and my application is verifying. I really, really hope there are no more problems, and that everything is able to be accepted. Thanks for letting us know how long it took for yours to be completed! Just out of curiosity, for everyone who has been commenting so far, why did you choose to apply to UMN? Are you/did you apply to many other schools as well?
  18. Good luck to everyone! And thanks for passing along the information that they may be willing to work with us after the grace period. That was really a relief to hear today, as my transcript still isn't posted. If it doesn't show up tomorrow, I'm going to give NursingCAS and admissions a call. Fingers crossed for all of us!
  19. Ampharos, again thank you SO MUCH for the information! It's extremely helpful - even though maybe I'm getting ahead of myself, since we haven't even gotten to the application deadline yet, haha. If I make it into the program, I'm hoping to work a bit to help mediate the financial pressure. I'm really glad to know that it's possible. Bee55881, any updates on your application? I'm still waiting for my last transcript with fall semester grades to be processed...due to a series of problems, I ended up overnighting it on Friday, and it hasn't appeared in my application yet. I'm checking NursingCAS like every hour, just hoping it's processed SOON so they can start verifying. So stressful!
  20. Wow, thank you SO much for all of the information! It really helps give a better picture of what the program is like. It seems similar to what I remember reading from other people - the clinicals seems to be the most helpful part of the program. Do you mind me asking: are you working any other job? Do you think it would be possible to work a bit while in school?
  21. I'm still a little worried though...NursingCAS just told me that it does take 3 - 4 weeks for verification. So I'm not sure where the 3 days thing came from...ugh. So stressful! I think my GPA and GRE should be good. I have a 3.96 in my last degree and 4.0 in my prereqs, and my GRE was quite a bit higher than the average they listed in all aspects. I was definitely MUCH higher in verbal than in math, but since I haven't taken a math class since 1996, I was ok with what I got...I studied for three months to try to remember everything I had forgotten in the last 20 years! My main concern is that I have no previous work experience in healthcare. I decided to make a career change after a major personal experience with the medical field, so all of my actual work experience is in my previous career. I'm hoping that my statement will explain this, but I have definitely been wondering if my lack of healthcare job experience will work against me.
  22. Ampharos, thank you so much for the information! How are you liking the program so far? Bee55881, I just got a message from admissions letting me know that there is a 7 - 10 day grace period after the Jan. 15 deadline for NursingCAS to complete verification, so hopefully we will be ok. Admissions also said that NursingCAS is supposedly averaging 3 days to verify applications. I think I'm on my fourth day, so it may be done soon? But I still need to do an academic update with grades from this fall, so I'm still a little worried that not everything will be done in time. I guess we'll see...
