Professor made me cry...on the inside

Published

So I was taught something and my professor asked me a question. Though she asked twice in two different ways the same question after reviewing it with me, I still had to think about it and she blurts out "You still don't know it yet?" I've never had issues with any professor before but I really felt like quitting the program and going home crying.

But instead I peddled through the clinical day and when I went home I just wanted to bury myself in bed.

I know she's just one professor and I may be incompetent, but I feel so sad. How would you have handled the situation? Is it something to cry over? I didn't feel like approaching her about it because my college seems to not like it when students tell teachers they don't think they were being professional.

Have a cry ... move on. Your professor might not have been wonderful that day, but what she did was not all that bad. It's not worth ruining your week over it. Take a few minutes ... let go of the emotion ... master the material you were having trouble understanding ... and move on.

Instead of crying over it, make more effort to be prepared so that such an incident does not happen again.

Honey, patients and families and co-workers will hurt your feelings too. Just bear in mind you will interact with this person only a short while. In other words, get over it. You have a brilliant career ahead and you are not going to let that person ruin your goals

Umm, perhaps understanding the material would be helpful in being able to answer her questions, especially if she has to try two different ways to find out if you know it. AND if she has just explained it to you. Perhaps you could try repeating it back to her to be sure you got it, and then she can correct you prn.
