How does everybody get such high GPAs? I went to school after i graduated high school but I didnt do great since I didnt know what I wanted to do. I have retaken most those classes so now I only have As and Bs but even then I am scared its not enough. I have a 3.26 GPA but I have a few classes to take still I know I can get As in and can probably get a 3.6 if I work hard. Im applying to the BSN program at UAA next spring and they only take 16 students. How do you keep straight As in these science classes and classes like statistics?? I know I am smart enough but I have 3 kids 5 and under and taking at least 12 units a semester. I guess I just need to work harder on the classes I do in the future and make up for the Bs I got when I was younger?

They rank you by 75% pre req GPA which mine hopefully I can get to a 3.7 but at the moment is a 3.26.

12.5% is your science GPA including A&PI and II, Micro, survey of chem and intro to organic and bio chem. Right now I have 3 Bs and an A for sciences so I still need to take the second chem class which I am gonna do in the spring with only 1 maybe 2 other classes so I can really focus..

12.5% is based on your kaplan score which I scored a 77 and the advisor told me in previous years the average score for those admitted was a 76. I can take it every 365 days so depending on when they decide the deadline for applications is next year I may retake it since I know I could do better a second time.

    I've wondered close to the same thing when I first joined the forum a few months ago. I'm getting the feeling now that when most people are talking about their GPA they are only talking about their pre-req GPA not total GPA. Still unure about it but seems more fitting.

    I'm doing pre-reqs to apply to aBSN programs for Fall 2017. My previous degree is in Biology with a Psych minor so science classes come easy for me really. A high pre-req GPA shouldn't be an issue for me. My BS GPA was only 3.27, not bad but not the crazy high GPAs everyone else seems to post about. I took BioStats and Developmental Psych with my first degree and earned A- and A respectively, Micro and 4 semesters of Chem too but they are too old to count. Just finished BioEthics and A&P I with an A in both. Just A&P II, nutrition, and Micro left (well Chem for my back up school but hoping to avoid that) and expect As there as well. Got an A in Micro the first time around, don't expect it to be any different 12 years later.

    That would probably leave me with a overall GPA in the 3.5-3.7 range maybe... Haven't bothered to crunch the numbers on that yet.

    I would imagine it's hard to find time to study with all of those little kids running around! I have no advice to offer you on how to maintain your grades, seeing as I had it pretty easy. I have no kids and an extremely flexible job, so finding time to study isn't an issue for me. And that's really what it is: finding the time to pack all that info into your brain.

    I will say this though: apply to more than one nursing program to increase your chances of getting in somewhere. There are some programs out there that only consider your prereq GPA (Not your total GPA), so you may have a better chance there. I would also suggest taking fewer credits each semester if you can.

    I live in alaska. There is only 1 program within 6 hours and moving isnt an option since we own our home, have 3 kids and my husband is in the army so his job is here. Otherwise I would be applying to many but I do not have that option sadly. I only have this BSN program and nothing else. Its new program since they used to offer the ADN and this year changed it to the BSN. The first cohort starts this fall so I will be applying for the second cohort.
