prepping for an accelerated program

Hello All,

I am going to start an accelerated rn/bsn program in May. I am so excited!! Is there anything I should be doing to prepare for the start of school? I bought Nursing Fundamentals Made Incredibly Easy and I have been reading that as well as Drug Calculations for Nurses.

Other than that, I don't know what to do. I think I am a combination of extremely excited and EXTREMELY NERVOUS...

Thanks!

I'm in an accelerated program right now, and my advice would be to prepare by doing things you enjoy. Take advantage of your last few months of freedom. I work full-time and go to school full-time. It can be overwhelming at times, but I make sure to have a little fun once in a while just to keep sane.

Things that I could not live without are my laptop, PDA, and digital recorder (as long as the instructor doesn't mind).

I didn't buy anything until after I started school. This way I wouldn't buy anything I didn't need. (required books were provided)

Oh, and one last thing...

I strongly recommend a backpack with wheels on it. It will save your back!

Good luck!

I agree, I would relax and enjoy yourself... maybe clean your house.. I struggle with finding time to do much of anything but eat, sleep and study, and not in that order.

The fun will start soon.... but get some time to yourself now.

Good luck!

I agree that there isn't much you can do to prep beforehand. Clean the house, go on vacation, get a massage, work some extra hours and bank some money, spend time with your family/friends, and enjoy yourself. Maybe try to get more organized if you aren't - develop a strategy for keeping the house somewhat tolerable clean (for me that meant biweekly maid service), get a planner/calender/PDA and use it, if you have your course schedule figure out what nights you'll have time to cook, and start learning recipes that you can make parts of ahead, or good ways to use up leftovers (I refuse to eat fast food, and save the pizza/takeout for nights before exams). You really can't learn the material early, so do stuff for you instead!
